Although we are devout (dare I say frum?) home-shulers, I can’t imagine not being a member of our local synagogue. So today – let’s hear it for the shul!

8. Kiddush. There really is such a thing as a free lunch.

my daughter was glancing at papers at saw the dues statement from the shul. she said “mom, why don’t you stop paying this – this is a lot of money.” and i said “i know, and we really don’t go. but they did such a wonderful job w/ you and sister w/ your bat mitvahs and we might need rabbi starr one day if (god forbid) something bad happens.”
she said “you know rabbi starr would come regardless if you stop paying.”
and i said “you’re right, and that’s the main reason i’m paying the dues.”
she said “ok, i agree w/ that.”
