OK, I admit I’m no Mayim Bialik. I’m no Anita Diamant. I’m not even a Marjorie Ingall. (Hi, Marjorie!) I am, in fact, an unknown blogger who gets a measly five thousand hits a month on my Jewish parenting blog on a website owned by fundamentalist Christians. So when kveller launched last week, with serious financial backing from UJA-Federation, I shouldn’t be surprised that they didn’t ask me to write, didn’t mention my blog *, and didn’t ask me to post a link to their site on Homeshuling. Either they have never heard of me, or I’m not cool enough for them. (And they’re right. I’m really not cool. At all.)

About Me

I'm a mother of two girls, raised in suburban Baltimore, and transplanted to a small New England town. I teach, write, and try to create a vibrant Jewish home for my family while spending very little time in synagogue. Â I guess you could say we're home-shuling. You can contact me at homeshuling at gmail dot com.Categories

Meh. SO not my taste.
Some good writers, some good content… but a little too slick / upscale for me. At the more traditional end of the spectrum myself, I love visiting many liberal sites and blogs, but there, I’m not seeing enough Judaism to make it worthwhile.
Then again, I’m definitely not the target market, so I guess I shouldn’t feel offended.
(Except by the book excerpt on how not to have a miscarriage… by carrying a red thread in your pocket. That offends me.)
However – they DO mention Homeshuling! Right in the blogroll section at the bottom-right corner here:

THEY DID NOT SAY THAT. TELL ME THEY DID NOT SAY THAT.
And hi, Amy!

@Marjorie – not EXACTLY. They book authors said, among other things, “…at the risk of being called idolaters, we suggest that you consider carrying in your pocket or in a necklace a prayer, a red thread, or even a stone that has personal meaning. While we obviously cannot say whether this will be effective in preserving your fetus…” etc.
Full article here: http://kveller.com/pregnancy/body-and-soul/protection-against-miscarriage.shtml
Honestly, all the caveats made me itchy to read because the essence of it is so horrifyingly untrue. The title and subtitle (“Protection Against Miscarriage: Ancient traditions for ensuring the health of your fetus”) also shocked me.
And then I got irked because there are no comments allowed at the bottom of the page where I can say all this…

Thanks for the link, Jennifer. I tried to find the piece you were referring to, but the search function on kveller doesn’t seem to really work.

Love your post — I had a similar feeling of being snubbed! And I’m not even on their blogroll, but I’m going to write to them right now about that. Here’s my Kveller post: http://www.thejewishweek.com/blogs/julie_wieners_mix/birth_announcement_kveller
