Some people send their friends e-cards. Some people send their friends plagues. Wait ... what?

If you're like me, you've seen the recent spate of ads for upcoming horror movie "The Reaping" starring Hilary Swank and featuring the tagline "What hath God wrought?" I'm not sure what the plot of the movie is, but the Biblical plagues definitely play a major part--just in time for Passover.

If you want to send locusts, blood, or darkness your friends, go here for a full selection.

I had considered seeing this movie out of curiosity about the way it presents faith, and the main character's experience as a spiritual-event-debunker who faces something she can't disprove. I wonder if the film is as superficial as the idea behind these plague e-mails, though. I can understand thinking this is a cute idea for a second, a different way of spreading the word about the movie. But after that second was over, did no one consider a greater appreciation for the gravity of the subject matter?
