The Passion of Paris Hilton

posted by Paul O'Donnell

What is it about prison–or just the prospect of it–that makes people find religion? Headed for a 23-day sentence that begins June 5, socialite Paris Hilton has been spotted toting the Bible and the nondenominational meditation “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle. The question is, will she be taking these tomes with her into the big house?

Other famous jailbirds–Charles Colson and Mike Tyson come to mind–have emerged from the slammer with a newfound faith. Paris is the first we can think of who has stocked up on spiritual resources going in. Or maybe, having blamed her “advisers” for letting her violate parole, she’s finally got herself very good public relations help–no, not the Good Lord, but a PR rep out to change her image.

What Price Would You Pay for Religious Freedom?
It’s a question that’s especially valid today as the Catholic Church battles with our government over the proposed healthcare mandate requiring faith-based institutions to cover contraception.  We ask ourselves if this is a breach of religious liberty and if so, how will this fight will end? Â

For Greater Glory - EXCLUSIVE First Look!
UPDATE: This is an exclusive first look at the poster for the film! I don't know much about For Greater Glory. I know it stars Andy Garcia, Evan Longoria, and Peter O'Toole. I know it's the true story of the Cristiada, a Mexican civil war that happened in the 1920s. I know it's about the persecut

WWJD II - The Woodcarver
It can be difficult to find family friend entertainment these days. Even cartoons aimed at children can have poor attitudes and language that you'd never want your little ones spouting off. There have been any number of times where, in shock, I've turned something off that my kids were watching that

The dark night of the soul or “hitting bottom” as the call it in the recovery community almost always comes before conversion. This is par for the course. You yourself might have an equivalent story, unless you have been committed to your faith all your life…

It will take Divine Intervention at this point for Paris to accept responsibility for her actions and the consequences of those actions. The earlier in her life, the better. I hope she finds herself and a better path while in prison.
