Who has Bad Karma? Paris Hilton, or Us?

Monday May 7, 2007

Categories: Celebrities
Over the weekend, I logged onto one of my favorite websites, Go Fug Yourself, to get their take on the most important celebutante-related gossip of the weekend: Paris Hilton being sentenced to 45 days in jail. Sure enough, their top...

I don't think it has anything to do with whether people want to be like Paris or not. I believe it's a society that is fed up with the wealthy brats who did not earn their money the hard way but instead has had life handed to them on golden platters getting away with anything they want while daddy gets them out of trouble. I find it refreshing that after all the law breaking and obvious contempt for the rules other have to follow that someone in the media as much as Paris actually is required to fulfill her duty as a citizen and do her time. She is finally held accountable for her actions and even though I think it should have been longer. She got away with her offense twice before being sentenced. Even her mother asked for the judges autograph. Doesn't that speak to a parent who has lost control and is glad someone put their foot down? Most say it's the parents who create the child but it's also society. Paris was created also by the media, her peers and her daddy's money. It's a reason for who she is but by no means an excuse for her to break the law and walk around like she is untouchable. I do not want to be Paris or have all her money. I want to see justice for all and this is a small but forward moving start.

I agree with both comments. People go to jail. Lil Kim did. Naomi Campbell did her community time in a sewage. Paris is human and bleeds like me. She violated her parole and she has to pay the penance. I'm not on parole, but if I was, and violated like Paris; I would be in jail too. 45 days is days not years! Paris will be OK! We all make mistakes and learn from them; hopefully Paris will. I don't feel happy or sorry for her; I really hope that she learned money and fame can't clean up everything. And, we have seen how careless she is on TV & the net; and, she really plasys up on thet blonde role...you know, perpuate the stereotype. Maybe now she can right a song with meaning>

...You without fault and pretenses cast the first stone....

I'n not casting any stones at all.

But had I done the thing lil' missy Paris had done, I'd be going to jail and nobody would say "boo" because that's what happens when you flagrantly break the law.

So why should Paris NOT go to jail?

Bad karma my b___...>

I am so glad you pointed out the prententiousness and arrogance of many Americans. I hate that people give the rich the evil eye and no wonder why they are stuck in their ways. I am not one to gossip about celebrities so it annoys me when other people do it. Hey Im not perfect, far from it, but let these people lead normal lives, but the whole mess comes directly from the media and of course, the people who keep them paid! It seems to me that people like to blame the rich and make fun of them and even for societies ills, but really they are the ones sometimes, that give the most to charity. Again it bothers me and I cannot stand to see another tabloid while waiting at the checkout line! I wanted to write this cause this was an interesting piece that I've pondered myself about.

Jealousy has always been the root of hatred. How could you hate someone you have never been with to know her
true character. Those who hate Paris are simply being jealous.the young lady is just a littlegirl with
big bucks and who will blame her for some of
her youthful pranks.

I have mixed feelings about the article. Whereas I agree it's wrong to want to see someone hurt just because we don't like them, and it's true our culture helped create the Paris Hilton's of the world. On the other hand, Paris puts herself out there in the media spotlight and has many times seemed to flagrantly disregard the law.
I don't feel people dislike Paris Hilton because she is rich or beautiful. It's her attitude and how she carries herself. Jackie Onasis was rich and beautiful and well loved. She also had "class."
People look at Paris Hilton and wonder "what does she actually Do?" Does she do any good with her money? Do we see her at fund raisers or being an activist for about anything positive?
Let's take another start like Angelina Jolie. Beautiful, wealthy, and has had her share of controversy, but if the viewing public heard she was going to do 45 days in jail, we'd probably feel compassion because we can see so much good that she's done with her megamillions.
I think that "who" Paris is played into the sentencing. However, "who" Paris is will give her a zillion breaks in life, so I don't feel that she needs much of our sympathy.
If Paris Hilton ever starts acting like an adult, doing something good w/ her money, and acting like she has some class, then, my feelings toward her might change.

She plays everyone with her I'm a dumb blonde act, of cause she should do time, if it was anybody else they'd have to do time, so why not Paris, maybe this will make her wake up and smell the roses, just like the rest of us

I go to a school where most of the girls are Paris Hilton clones - blonde-haired, tanned, slender - and I admit it's sometimes hard not to wish evil on them. When you're sitting waiting for an exam to start and one of your classmates is talking about how drunk she was last night and how - oops!giggle - she should have studied, you really can't help thinking she has no right to pass this test. Someone who actually cared about this class probably didn't get to take it because she got in, and it really doesn't seem fair. I guess that's the question, then. If we want Paris to go to jail because she's out of control, flaunting wealth that she never had to earn and flouting the way the world works for everybody else, is that bad karma, or supporting justice? (I mean 'justice' in the universal sense more so than any one nation's justice system.) Personally, I think Paris is a little child in a woman's body, and she has a lot of growing up to do. Maybe some time out of the public eye, living out the same punishment as anybody else in her place would get, will help jump-start the process.

I do belive that the image she portrays confuses young girls, the whole size 0 epedemic that seems to have spread, she is firmly in the middle of... the model for, if you like. And it does annoy me that rich brats get everything for nothing. In saying that I feel sorry for her, she is forever going to be stuck with the labels we have put on her and she has created for herself. I hope she finds innerpeace and overall happiness one day, because to me she seems like a confused little girl who is stuck with her media image and can't find a way out. Instead of judging we should give guidance.Green is nobodys colour!!

as much as i dislike that celebrities are treated special i do want to say that paris hilton has Marie Antoinette written all over her. given to excess and born to privelage, she doesnt really see what the common person is, so doesnt think about life like we do b/c she has never had to. her family made her what she is. if you were pampered and coddled, beautiful and fawned over, and you never saw the plight of the poor, you would likely be just like paris. we may not like her now, but neither did the peasants like Marie, history however has a completely mixed opinion about her.

and about the angelina jolie comment, you have proved my point exactly, b/c angelina was the weirdest friggin' person out there until she was exposed to true suffering in the world. maybe that is how paris can be fixed, shoe her suffering.

I'm not going to cast stones either, but I just want the record to state that the fact that we are all sitting here debating this topic is incredibly silly. Whether her jail time be a result of karma or the American judicial system is not important. Paris Hilton is a human being serving time for a crime she committed and all we should hope is that some good greater than her increased popularity for--yes I will say it--doing absolutely nothing relevant will take shape. We need to pray that when she goes in she takes the time to think about the message she is portraying to our young girls. Pray that she is enlightened to change her behavior for the greater good because though she's done nothing profound since becoming a star, her mere existence can change the course of someone's life depending on whether she decided to use her fame for good or pure foolish unadulterated evil. Our young girls sadly enough take cues from her too so shouldn't we want something worthwhile coming out of this than wasteful criticism and discourse.

I DON'T USUALLY COMMENT ON CELEBRITY STORIES...THEY ARE JUST SPIRITUAL BEINGS HAVING HUMAN EXPERIENCES...AND CHOICES...JUST LIKE ALL OF US...BUT PARIS WAS HEADED FOR REAL TROUBLE...BEING BORN INTO WEALTH IS NOT A CRIME...WHO ARE WE TO DECIDE WHO HAS TO WORK FOR THEIR MONEY AND WHO DOESN'T...I THINK GOD DECIDED THAT BEFORE PARIS WAS BORN...THE POINT IS...PARIS HAS NO CONCEPT OF CAN'T...YOU CAN'T DRINK AND DRIVE...YOU CAN'T BREAK COURT ORDERS...AND THE STRAW THAT PROBALLY BROKE THE JUDGES BACK...YOU CAN'T DRIVE TO THE COURTHOUSE (SINCE THIS WAS ALL ABOUT DRIVING) TO SEE IF THEY WILL SEND YOU TO JAIL...IT JUST KEEPS SAYING "I'M PARIS HILTON" YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING TO ME...JUST HAVING THAT CONCEPT COULD GET PARIS OR SOME INNOCENT VICTIM TO MEET THEIR DEATH...I WOULD SAY THAT PARIS AND HER 45 DAYS IN JAIL...IS IN GOD'S HANDS...BUT IT IS NOT...IT IS IN PARIS'S HANDS...MAYBE IF WE ALL PRAY FOR HER...SHE WILL COME OUT OF THIS A NEW PERSON...USING HER MONEY AND CONNECTIONS TO HELP MAKE THIS WORLD A BETTER PLACE...LIKE PRINCESS DINAH...IF NOT SHE WILL BE ANOTHER FALLEN STAR...LIKE ANNA NICHOLE...SO...IF YOUR READING THIS...DON'T JUST WATCH THE ACCIDENT...SAY A PRAYER FOR THE PERSON IN THE ACCIDENT...AND MAYBE THEY WILL LIVE.

Here's a little-known fact about Paris Hilton: her last album was not only pretty darn good, it was highly acclaimed by some of the most snobbish music critics in the industry. Personally, I despise most of the bland, vacuous, bubblegum hip-hop that currently rules the airwaves. And I expected Paris' album to be more of the same, if not worse. But -- much to my surprise -- she put an album together that deserves repeated listenings. So she broke the law and she should pay for it. Fair enough. But "Nothing In This World" is one of the best pop songs of this millennium, and it more than justifies her existence. And she ain't bad looking, y'know?

I think it was fair and just. Given her situation and the times this has happened. In everyday life this happens I am sure alot. The fact that she is Paris Hilton has no bearing on it. After all she's human like the rest of us and prone to make mistakes.Years ago Sophia Loren spent time in jail in her native Italy for tax problems. Because one is famous does not exempt them from being punished. Maybe some good will come out of this. Obviously Paris was an accident waiting to happen. Maybe the next violation would have cost someone serious or fatal injury. In a system that makes us believe these people are above reproach - we see they are human after all.

Paris Hilton is lucky. She was born into many oportunities. if she had been born to typical parents she could be working like the rest of us. Learning to live with what ever you neeed to to make a buck. The rest of us had to pay our dues to be where we are.>

The reality here is Love or Hate Paris, isnt an issue! The real issue here is she broke the law and needs to pay the price like all of us on here posting would!! Simple as that! I truly have never met her nor do i care to. I have nothing against her and truly donot support tabloids etc. I barely watch the local news, nevermind celebrity news. I just feel that in reality, too many people in life think they are untouchable, and noone should be! Break the law, pay the price! Period! Shouldn't matter who you know, or who you b___! Peace all!

what is this about bad karma? you wanna blame karma for paris hilton not being responsible? there is no such thing as bad karma.. only karma. just because she's rich doesn't mean she doesn't deserve to go to jail. i guess she is just spoilt. so spoilt that she has to blame someone. she blamed her assistant,or someone, for not telling er that her license is suspeneded. where was her responsibility? shoudn't find out from her assistant,or whoever, what is going on? let her know what irresponsibilty costs? and for god's sakes DUN BLAME KARMA!!

she is not no better than us, i can guarantee you if this was me an every day person, not only would i already be serving my time i also would be paying a hefty fine. so lets not go easy on her just because of who she is. if she did the crime she can pay her time just the same as us no-bodies.

It is true that many people feel glee out of what happened to Paris, just because of who she is. I will not claim that that is untrue simply because the 45 days in jail are a just fit to her crime. But, this is more than just what a number of people are saying and feeling about Paris. We are talking about a girl who has had little to no guidance and discipline in her life. She is not 18, 19 or 20. She is 25 or 26; an age in which most youth are starting to settle into or leading and adult life. She is stuck in the world of highschool clicks and constant rule bending.
The fact that her attitudes, behavior, expressions, vision of life is that of a teenager suggests an extreme and dangerous lack of maturity. She needs more than criticism and hatred to help her; she needs a serious intervention just like any other deviated person would. From what I hear, her mother is obviously not up to the task. She repeatedly has supported Paris' antics and attacked those who have lashed out at her. If Paris has become who she is today is in large part to the liberties her parents gave her during her formative years.
Unfortunately for Paris she will have to learn as an adult facing adult consequences what she should have learned many years ago with the help of her parents.
Why is this of any importance to us? Because the deliciousness of her actions fulfill our childish dreams. Because, most of us when young would have relished at having the freedom and power to do what we most coveted without having to face any consequences. Because our youth, most who feel the same way, are seeing that this is possible everytime Paris Hilton behaves this way.
This young generation considers more valuable the principle of being authentic (ala Paris) rather than educated (in which they see us as being hipocrats). The events of last week, which allows our young ones to see that there are consequences to their actions regardless of who they are and that nobody is spared, is invaluable in helping us stired our lost ones towards a better path. If we can find a way to show them how they can be authentic and productive at the same time will be a plus.

If I were to have done what Paris did, I would have received the same sentence. If my mother shouted out during the proceedings, she would have been charged with contempt, and made to pay for her actions, something Kathy Hilton was not charged with despite her childish actions. Once the proceedings were finished, I would have been immediately taken to jail, not sent home for a month and told that I had until June 5th to turn myself in to serve my sentence. So, even in the so called metering of justice, Miss Hilton and her family are still treated differently than those of us who do not have famous last names and the fortunes that go with them. Do I think this is Karma? No, I think this is simple law being upheld as best as it can be in a society that does not treat so called celebrities the same, although they should be when they do something that could have killed innocent people and is so blatantly wrong. And to JudgeNot | 05.11.07 - 3:17 am, Please do not quote "JUDGE NOT LEST YOU BE JUDGED" and then go on to tell people what they should do. In doing so, you ARE judging people, so WELCOME TO THE CLUB! I will save you a comfortable seat at the next meeting, and pour you a glass of sweet tea hon :)

I agree with the original post. I've never understood why people despise her so much. I think she's kind of funny.
I agree that she needs to do her time just like anyone else. But what I don't get is the venom. She's still a human being and I have compassion for her. I suspect despite all of her wealth and fame she has it harder than we might suspect. We all have our suffering and Paris has more than her share of hers.

Just give Paris the benefit of Mistakes like we all did. We are learning everyday to restore the mistakes. We are not perfect human beings. Hatred is a strong words. Forgiveness and forget are the best thing happens to all of us. Paris, wherever you are, Hanging in there. Our God will be the judge of your mistakes, not me or others. Whoever are we all love you but Our Heavenly Father definetly does love you and all of us..

paris hilton obviously has serious psychological problems. she is a human being and one of God's creatures. She deserves compassion. This has NOTHING to do with the time she is serving; this has to do with the way her name has become synonymous with the type of horrible insults you wouldn't use on your dog. How would you feel if your daughter's name was treated that way? If a room full of people stood up and cheered because your daughter was punished? This is how our heavenly father feels when we do these things to this girl.

Girl because, though physically she is a woman, inside she is just a frightened, scared little girl. I know because I have been there. Luckily though, with my struggle, there were a few people who actually cared enough about me to look past my defenses (which actually looked a lot like paris' behavior-acting out, being overemotional, not eating, whining, feigning apathy-it is a classic case of self-hate, self-condemnation and depression) . I know that without the help of friends and family telling me to believe good things about myself, I would have ended up starving myself, killing myself or going insane. Unluckily for Paris, she only needs to look outside her cell to see a mirror of all her own self-hate reflected back at her. That would have killed me. I hope God helps her b/c that is the only way i can see her surviving. I am going to spend my time praying for her, not condemning her further. She probably does a good enough job of that on her own.
