Classy Mindy Doo Rocks EW!

posted by mkress | 1:19pm Wednesday June 6, 2007

Entertainment Weekly has posted video of the top three “American Idol” finalists visiting the magazine’s offices, and once again, I am reminded that Melinda Doolittle was just about the classiest, most talented contestant the show has seen. In the five-minute segment EW.com posted, Mindy Doo displays the same humility and intelligence she showed every week on stage. She talks frankly about forgetting some lyrics one week and insists that that wasn’t the only mistake she made during the season–a claim her EW interviewers rightfully dismiss.

Melinda’s faith is also on display in the segment: Prodded by the interviewers to sing for them (and reminded that it must be a song in the public domain, of course), she offers the first lines of a haunting “Amazing Grace.” Her good-hearted humor also shows through, as she tails off from the true lyrics to sing, “Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound / That’s all you’ll get from me.”

Yes, I am still lamenting her loss in “Idol,” but I have no doubt that, like other third-place contestants before her, she will have a great future. Admittedly, she doesn’t have the stage presence of a rock star, and that’s what I love about her. She was all talent, just talent, only talent, and that, of course, is why she made it to “Idol’s” upper echelons but didn’t emerge the winner.

For me, I am happy “settling” for a solid-gold voice, genuine modesty, and deep faith, even if it doesn’t come with–or especially because it doesn’t come with–the polished rock-star presence of some of her fellow contestants.

Yes, I, too, wanted Melinda, but I understand, also, what you are saying about her. She did not present a rock style, but tried, in her own way to do so. Her voice is beautiful, and she sang with such feeling in all of her songs I heard. Everyone liked her, I think, but I also think was mostly the older folks that appreciated her. She had a way about herself that what why wouldn’t a person love her, huh. I did not want Jordan to win because she will have many chances, at her age, so young, let the older ones who have worked much longer get the wins. But, 75 percent of the crowd were the younger set, so this is a good reason why she won. Blake was ok, but really not in there for his singing, mostly his talent in performing. We were disappointed, and I feel Simon was also.

Why didnt they bring a gospel expert singer on….and let each one have a try at Gospel. Hmmmmmmmmh??? Wonder who would have had to win then? Kudos to the judges for making melinda get rid of the “suprised look”.

When are they going to bring a gospel artist expert on and let each contestant sing Gospel. That would be just as fair as making them sing Country or English songs? Melinda was great. I thought she was going to win from the very beginning until I saw them putting her range to the test. Oh God, forgot the winners name, but anyway she had a better vocal range and the prettiest white teeth I have ever seen. Bless You Melinda. I will buy your CD when it comes out though!!!! loved you.

I think that Melinda was the best thing on that stage. I thought that it was very unfair that she didn’t win. I didn’t care for Blake or Jordyn. She is walking in the path of righteousness so she will prosper. Melinda needs to keep her head up and keep on believing. God will bless her more than than Idol could do for her. He’s going to take her to higher heights and deeper depths. Be blessed Melinda, and know that God has got your back.

Melinda is a great example of walking with Christ. Mandissa was a great example of this also. Cannot forget that Jordin Sparks is a young, but she love Jesus! Don’t forget Phil Stacey and Chris Sligh, too! Alot of “Jesus Freaks” on this year’s Idol!

Melinda is poised, beautiful, and the most talent singer American Idol has experienced, but America is unaware of the true definition of the word “Idol” so I am not surprised that she was not chosen as the winner. Melinda, you have demonstrated the class, and character that is unknown to our contests. Your bright future is sure, continue to “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” You are loved.

I also rooted for Melinda Doolittle as classy and refined in every way.
Blake was fine; and may know how to play guitar, besides piano, and skat sing; but how far will he go when all he wants to do is make sounds and jazz it up instead of keeping all the rest in line.
I am a hairdresser and can say through experience to try and do all you know to achieve and keep up the practice with different phases. (instead of just cutting hair with scizzors to using both razor, clippers, and scissors.)
