“Friday Night Lights” Scores On DVD

fnl_jason_idol.jpgI was probably the biggest cheerleader here at Idol Chatter last season for NBC's small town football drama, "Friday Night Lights." I appreciated the intelligent way it dealt with serious teen issues as well as how it incorporated small moments of grace and faith into the storylines.

But if you are one of those few Idol Chatter readers who still haven't given the show a try, NBC and Universal Studios have now released the entire first season on DVD this week so that you can get caught up with the lives of Coach Taylor and the Dillon Panthers before the second season premiere October 5th ( I think my two favorite episodes from last season would be "nevermind " and "Mud Bowl").

And the studio is so confident you will love every episode on this DVD that they are even offering a money-back guarantee to anyone who purchases it--so it's a win- win for old and new fans alike.

The DVD does have some pretty interesting bonus features, including a behind-the-scenes documentary and some additional deleted scenes from various episodes. However, the big TV geek that I am, I admit I was really disappointed that there is no actor or director commentary on any of the episodes. With such a stellar cast, I would have definitely enjoyed hearing their take on the ups and downs of performing on a critically-acclaimed but low-rated TV series.

I was also hoping that perhaps somewhere inside the DVD packaging there would be a written explanation from the network executive who thought it was a brilliant idea to move "Friday Night Lights" this fall to Fridays--you know, when people who would love this show are often out watching high school football games.

With a fumble like that, I worry that this could mean that season one will be the beginning and end of my cheerleading days for the show.

I too, am a big fan of Friday Night Lights. I can't wait for the new season to begin. I wish that it wasn't on Friday night too. They should have left it on Wednesday.

I too am so confused why NBC would put FNL on Friday night. Last season the show became an hour that myself and my teenage son (a football player) would look forward to and never miss... everyone knew not to call us during that hour because we wouldn't answer the phone... now we will be at his varsity game instead! NBC is making a bad move on moving the night to Fridays.
