Has Michael Vick Found God?

posted by lmarcus | 2:20pm Monday August 27, 2007

Vick_idol.jpgYou can’t escape from Michael Vick in the media these days. Since initial allegations rose a few months ago accusing the Atlanta Falcolns quaterback of participating in dogfighting. Now the state of Georgia is pressing criminal charges, and the NFL has officially suspended Vick without pay. His image looks irredeemable. People may not agree on whether abortion is wrong or who will make the best president in 2008, but it’s practically impossible to get someone to say they hate animals and think it’s a-ok to abuse and/or kill them.
So how do you redeem the irredeemable? Vick’s taking a pretty conventional path. Following in the footsteps of Paris Hilton, Vick has found God. Jesus, more specifically.

TMZ.com reports on Vick’s press conference this morning:

“I will redeem myself” said Vick, “I have to.”
Vick wasn’t specific about the acts he was sorry for, but declared, “Dogfighting is a terrible thing. I reject it.”
Between apologies to everyone from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank–to all the kids who used to look up to him, Vick declared that he’s found Jesus and has turned his life over to God.

The conference ended with Vick adding, “I totally ask for forgiveness and understanding as I move forward to be a better Michael Vick the person, not the football player.”

I am surprised at how much attention this man is getting for dog-fighting. Michael Vick is not the first person to be involved in this, and he won’t be the last. There are human beings dying every day, and those murderers don’t get this much press. Where is the outrage for human life?

Well, people can be outraged at both, after all. There’s not a quota.
‘If I’m outraged at Vicks, I have no outrage left for human suffering and death..’
There’s plenty of outrage to go around.
But, first, that it is illegal. Second, if he participated in any betting ON his dogs, that’s sports betting, and any athlete participating in that gets into big trouble. (See Pete Rose..)
Finally, there seems to be some issue with how dogs in that sport were being treated. Outside the inevitable damage that simply comes from the bouts, of course.
The conditions they were kept in were apparently pretty horrific. Up to 50 dogs at a time were kept there. They used dogs to ‘test the fighting instincts of other dogs’, smaller dogs that it was known couldn’t survive the process and the graves of those dogs were found on the property.
Losers of the matches die. If not in the match, then afterwards, with the preferred methods being electrocution, strangulation, hanging and gun shot.
And again, when someone yet again brings up ‘human death’, it is possible to be plenty outraged at BOTH, yes, even at the same time.

As for ‘finding God’, isn’t that what famous people do when they get into trouble?
If he really did? Well, check back in a few months. My prediction is that it depends on if he keeps his current gig as an athlete.
If he does, you won’t hear much about it again. If he doesn’t, he’ll find a new job on the Christian Testimony circuit, with plenty of time to sit in one of those TBN golden thrown chairs.

It’s not for me to say whether he found God or not, but it is awful funny he’s suddenely finds him.
I listened to his speech, and it was so fake, I wanted to throw up. Anyone believeing this person, about changing, has a real problem. Trying to tell the children he needed to “grow up” Ha. Not that he needed to pay for his actions. What a phony

I find it all hypocritical (Not Vick, the jury’s still out with him). We have celebs who become even more popular after DUI convictions, endangering hundreds of lives, Thousands of infants killed in the womb because they’re not considered people until they come out, and even though Michael Vick did engage in dog fighting, we want to take his livelihood from him and make him pay for the rest of his life. Seems to me that human life is not worth much while animals are almost deified.

Actually, if he loses his livelihood, it is because the rules in the NFL. Mostly there because of decades of episodes of ‘Athletes behaving badly’ with little more than a ‘tsk’.
That and if he does actually LOSE his livelihood, it will likely have little to do with ‘animals deified’, and more to do with if he engaged in ‘sports betting’, which would get him a lifetime ban even if it was on humans.

I would like to believe that he has found Jesus, but it seems too sudden. I believe in the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost and have total faith in God. As a child I believed, then as an adult, i went throught a life threatening situation. Now I have total faith, but it took time to find that total faith and understanding. I pray that he is not using Jesus as an escape because the penalty for that in the afterlife is worse than the penalty he will face here on earth for what he has done.

I believe he should be penalized but not his career taken away from him true he made some mistakes aint nobody perfect I gurantee you that everybody that acusing him has done something wrong in thier life where they should be penalized for it they just didnt get caught so therefore who are we to judge anybody only God can judge Us & all it take is one split second for Jesus to find you, when you really need him the most, while dealing with your hardship! All you have to do is accept him and open up your Heart & thats what Mike Vick did so therefore We should give him a chance, instead of trying to condem him like if we are all perfect in God’s Book…To be honest there is more important things going on in the World right Now like All of our Brothers & Sisters killing each other in the Middle East right Now I could go on & on but Im not I just want to give the public something to think about……..

Well, if his career is ended, it won’t technically be for the dogfighting, actually.
It’ll likely be for sports betting. There’s a very BIG penalty for that, and probably because if you bet on sports, you might bet on your own sport.
Since you can’t control the other team, the easiest way to insure a winning bet is to bet against your own team, and throw the game.
And therefore, to be proven to engage in ANY sports betting can earn you a lifetime ban.
Doesn’t matter if it is on dogs, on football, or on professional dodgeball.

Religion is a convenience to the rich and famous. They wear it like the expensive clothing they buy then discard it when they think they have fooled everyone. He should never been seen on a professional football field again. What he did is evil and he has been doing this since high school years and now he wants us to believe that he has found God and knows that it is wrong.
That is bull and the american public should not be taken in by yet another superstar who conveniently lies!

This man should be ashamed of himself. I don’t believe he has found Jesus or God. I believe he has found what “greed” gets you in the end, nothing… As it should be. I hope he spends some miserable time in jail and suffers as bad as the animals he killed and abused. He thought he was above the law because he was a big football star. This is a lesson a lot of famous people need to learn. They need to be treated just like the rest of us “little” people are when we break the law.

THAT IS A QUESTION THAT ONLY MICHAEL VICK AND GOD KNOWS? YOU LITTLE PEONS HAVE NO RIGHT TO QUESTION OR JUDGE HIS FAITH! IF YOU ARE CAUGHT DOING SOMETHING WRONG YOU HAVE TWO CHOICES: CONFESS OR DENY. TRULY GOD BLESSES HIS CHILDREN, AND I AM WILLING TO BET THAT IF HIS CAREER IS TAKEN IN THE NFL, GOD HAS A BIGGER AND BETTER PLAN FOR MICHAEL VICK. SOMETIMES IN ORDER TO PLACE US WHERE HE WANTS US TO BE, HE HAS TO REMOVE US FROM WHERE WE WANT TO BE. I KNOW THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE NEVER BEEN DRAFTED INTO THE NFL, BUT STILL CAN RELATE TO THAT. BE CAREFUL HOW YOU MAKE JUDGEMENTS ON OTHERS, BECAUSE YOU JUST MAY BE JUDGED BY YOUR OWN WORDS! SO TO MICHAEL VICK, JESUS SAVES PEOPLE WHO COMMITTMENT HUMAN MURDER (LEGALLY) ABORTIONS, HUMAN MURDERS ILLEGALLY, LIERS, CHEATERS, ROBBERS(NONE TITHERS – READ MALACHI),THE LIST GOES ON AND ON. YOUR SITUATION IS NEVER TOO BIG FOR GOD, YOU ARE AN EASY THING FOR HIM. JUST BE STILL AND KNOW THAT HE IS GOD. KEEP YOUR MIND ON HIM AND HE WILL KEEP YOU IN PERFECT PEACE. IF YOU KEEP YOUR MIND ON THESE BUBBLE-HEADED PEOPLE YOU WILL BE TORMENTED! KEEP THE FAITH, YOU HAVE MY SUPPORT AND PRAYERS.

Hi their:
Yeah i have a comment. When he was committing this crime, was Jesus on his mind? He knew exactly what he was doing. Now all of a sudden he found Jesus. Of course that is BS, and we all know this. Give me a break. All these dudes who have money and fame think they have the right to abuse the rest of us and the world around them. Throw him or any one in the slammer and throw the key away. May be he should be tortured like those poor defenseless creatures. Shame on him!!!!!

I agree with CARAMELNMOCHA. All of you people who are criticizing and judging him are probably jealous of the fact that he has a lot of money, he’s a good player and he’s famous. I’m not saying he didn’t do anything wrong but everyone makes mistakes. You Michelle wishes that he “…spends some miserable time in jail and suffers…”; you Stephanie prefers to “…Throw him or any one in the slammer and throw the key away…he should be tortured “. Listen to yourself! I can picture you on Pontius Pilate begging for the execution of Jesus of Nazareth. The guy regrets what he did and is asking for forgiveness and understanding on live television. You can’t even do that.

I would like to say a few words to caramelnmocha…who are you calling peons. And who do you think you are, sitting up there like you are the judge, defending what this man has done. yes, we are all under god’s judgment, and we are to practice love and forgiveness. funny tho how these with fame & money wait until they are caught to mention god, or admit they are wrong. it is wrong, cruel and evil to mistreat any of god’s creatures, including dogs.
but it is not up to you to judge me for my anger against someone who has committed these acts. i really don’t understand how you think it’s ok to call other people peons. everyone, including you, are children of god, eqwually. i am offended that you place yourself in a position to degrade otheer people for their opinions.

As for being between him and God, sure.. when dealing with his faith, or eternal fate.
If he’s looking for this to ameliorate the, shall we say, more ‘earthly’ penalties for his behavior.. Then that is between him and his fans, him and his team and the agency who sets the rules for his sports, and him and the Law.

I have a hard time either condemning or forgiving Michael Vick. But of course, I’m not Jesus, God or the Holy Ghost. I think most people unconsciously place animals on the same level as children. We hear about the cruelty and we flip out. Michael will have to wade through a lot of trials before he gets himself right. This is just the start. Let’s see how the story develops before we burn him in effigy.
And while we’re waiting, we can actually DO THINGS to help stop cruelty to people and animals. Since everyone reading this has a computer, you can find many ways to help.
Check out theanimalrescuesite.com for a FREE and easy way to contribute. There are links to help children and the environment too. :)

Only Michael Vick knows if he really accepted Jesus as his saviour. If he said that to impress other people God will punish him further. I once witnessed a fight between an Alaskan Malamute and a German Shepherd. I tried to break them up but was unable to. The Malamute killed the Shepherd. It was horrible to watch the Shepherd die. I don’t know how anybody could enjoy watching one pit bull kill another one. How that could possibly pass for entertainment I’ll never know.

I think what Mr Vick should be doing is something about animals and pit bulls because they are trying to kill them off in states there is a petition out there about it.I cant remember what the e-mail address was ,but im sure it wouldnt be hard to find. Mr. Vick should be doin a service for this cause and to give money also to all causes for abused and injured animals ALL! This is just my opinion God Bless and we need to pray for people with issues and not make it worst!

The trouble with superstars, sports or otherwise is simple. They are all spoiled little children who have the world by the tail and don’t know how to handle it. They’ve got more bucks than what they need. If they had Christ Jesus in thier lives in the first place, they wouldn’t have to say that they were sorry, because, quite simply, they wouldn’t be doing the wrong things…You can say to me,well you don’t have what I have,so how can you give me advice?…I say to them…I’ve got alot more than you’ve got, because, I have no money,But I have peace of mind, because I don’t allow, pier pressures, money or anything else keep me from the one person who means more to me than life itself…God! I have a family that loves me,and me,them..so where does alcahol, dope or anything else that is so important in theses superstars lives come from? It comes from instability in thier minds and hearts. They are weak.Physical strenght isn’t what makes a person. Put Christ before yourselves and leave him to lead you in the light.
