Prince's Take on the Bible

Monday August 27, 2007

And the newest televangelist is … Prince! Okay, not really. In fact, he’s really just a pop culture icon and singer who talks about his faith. And, okay, there's probably quite a few religious leaders who would question his theology....

I totally agree with Prince, the Bible is a book to get all advice for daily living. Solomon was wealthy and wise. When reading the book of Ecclesiastes I have learned that "nothing is new under the sun". This life that we are living right now is a repeat of the past and it will continue over and over again. I also learned from the wise Solomon that when we dream all that we dream about is what has been on our minds through out our daily lives.

As creatures that God has created, we are all the same, and we are here for the purpose of living out what God has planned for us, loving each other and loving God as we love ourselves.

Live your life!!!

hes a phoney, every hit he ever had including his fake image, he stole from someone else. he would take credit for creation itself, if he could. hes just a great con. his god comments get press, thats his only goal, press, ego , money.

you don;t use people, step on people, steal their material, to get famous. and, then preach the word, that's being a hypocrite. he also needs a serious history education.

It is interesting when someone - a celebrity - claims his belief in God and appreciates what he has given to them, there is always someone, who is always annonymous that will belittle their testament. I believe everyone has a "coming to Jeasus" and I think Prince has done this.

If you dont like the man for his talent, etc., fine but as we are all God's children we must let him find his path in peace and not detour him with the words of the devil.

People can change you know.... Havent you heard the story about Prince not doing a show because of the conduct of how the women were. He's not a hypocrite.. he was just a person that was trying to make it big in life... and if you look around we ALL steal material from others. We are all guilty for that. Prince wasnt a believer in the beginning but now he is starting to know God and hopefully thats making him a better person. Give the man some credit .. he could be doing way worse but instead he talks about the BIBLE.

I LOVE PRINCE ALWAYS HAVE ALWAYS WILL. HE IS THE COOLEST DUDE THERE IS AND HE SHOWS HIS WORTH BY HIS DEEDS. BUT BECAUSE HE IS SO HUMBLE PEOPLE DON'T ALWAYS KNOW THE WONDERFUL THINGS HE HAS DONE. AT LEAST TWO ARTISTS WHO DIED PENNILESS THEIR FAMILIES WERE GIVEN MONEY FOR THEIR BURIAL BY PRINCE. HE CONTRIBUTES 'TITHES' TO MANY CAUSES. HE HAS HELPED GREAT ARTISTS RECLAIM THEIR CRAFT ALA LARRY GRAHAM AND CHAKA KAHN TO NAME A FEW. HOW MANY ARTISTS GOT THEIR START VIA PRINCE SHEILA E THE TIME SHEENA EASTON APPOLONIA FAR TOO NUMEROUS TO NAME THEM ALL. HEY EVEN CHARLIE MURPHY GAINED HIS FAME BY TELLING HIS WONDERFUL PRINCE AND RICK JAMES STORIES ON THE CHAPPELLE SHOW. THE LIST IS TOO NUMEROUS TO NAME EVERYONE PRINCE HELPED. SO I KNOW HE IS A GOOD MAN, BUT I'M EVEN HAPPIER TO KNOW HE LOVES GOD OUR FATHER.

Prince is, without a doubt, blessed with incredible talent - and that comes from God. I hope he really is looking seriously into God's Word. A 'vague spirituality' is dangerous, because it can lull you into thinking you're OK, skirting the issue of a true spiritual re-birth and encounted with God. Doing good things is ....well, good -- but it's accepting God's life, and His sacrifice (according to the scriptures that Prince is reading) that is the real life-transforming issue.
I wish him the best, and hope that he draws ever closer to God, as we all have to.

I have gone to Prince concerts each time they came to Jacksonville; I have been amazed by his talents since 1979. I do believe that he has embraced his spirituality, and is doing his best to express that in his music. SMILE JESUS, it might behoove you to discard that judgmental attitude, cause each of us has sins that can only be covered by the Blood. Prince has confessed Christ with his mouth, and incorporated Him into his music...PEACE.

It is not for us to Judge but to Pray for the Sinners in this World.I hope Prince is on the road to Salvation. Let us not condemn Each other and lets pray that he gets it RIGHT.

Prince is one of the few artists who has been able to maintain his musical integrity throughout his career. When his label tried to run rough shod over him, he fought back. When he was copied by other artists, he took that as a compliment. I find his music to be spiritually based-songs like, The Ladder and other musical gems that his musical genious has spawned.

In my opinion it's not about your talk it's about your walk. And whether you do it in stilettos or Jordan's it's about the integrity of your work.

Suffice it to say - We are writing about him, he's not writing about us. So he gets mad props from me.

Peace

EVERYONE BORN OF A WOMAN HAS THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE, AND ACCEPT GOD THROUGH JESUS CHRIST. WE ARE NOT TRICKED WE HAVE THE GOD GIVEN DECISION TO SIN OR NOT TO SIN OR BE A SINNER. PEOPLE CHOOSE TO DO RIGHT OR WRONGE NOBODY SHOULD TRICK YOU. WE HAVE THE INSTRUCTION BOOK THE BIBLE, THE WORD OF GOD. READ IT. MANY CHURCHES ARE TEACHING IT THE BIBLE EVERY DAY ESPECIALLY ON SUNDAY AND TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY
WE MUST CHOOSE. CHOOSE ETERNAL LIFE OR ETERNAL DEATH DO IT WHILE IT IS STILL DAY DON'T LET IT BE TOO LATE FOR YOU. LIKE PRINCE ALL OF US ARE GOING TO STAND BEFORE THE FINAL JUDGE ON JUDGEMENT DAY. WILL YOU HAVE READ THE BOOK AND GOTTEN YOUR INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS LIFE OR ARE YOU MAKING UP YOUR OWN RULES AS YOU GO ALONE. LOVE CHOOSE!!!!!!!!!

It has always been known that Prince was a very religious and spiritual person even in his earlier days. People who met him or know him always spoke of this side of him and how he always came off as very genuine. Sometimes the showbiz side of a person overshadows who they really are.

I have been a fan of Prince since the very beginning. I worked at NBC in Burbank during the 70's and I first saw him on Midnight Special with Wooman Jack. No one at the rehearsal knew who he was but when he started singing we took notice. He was marvelous! Amazing and all of the above. He played all the instruments in the band and we were truly in awe. I also saw him during his Purple Rain Tour @ the Forum in LA. He never disappoints!

In regards to Prince new religious belief. I did not see you mention in your article that Prince is a Jehovah Witness. I do not consider Jeovah Witness Christians. Michael Jackson was also @ one time a Joevah Witness. I personally do not believe in their teachings and I was curious as to why this was not mentioned in your article?
I sincerely hope that Prince has found himself and detoured away from his former way of thinking.
Peace & Blessings,
Dee Dee

FIRST OF ALL I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT IT IS WELL AND FITTING TO DO GOOD AND TO READ YOUR BIBLE AND QUOTE SCRIPTURE BUT GUESS WHAT SATAN KNOWS THE SCRIPTURE ALSO.A REMINDER WHEN JESUS HAD FASTED IN THE WILDERNESS 40 DAYS AND 40 NIGHTS READ MATTHEW CH 4. JESUS SAID IN HIS WORD I AM THE WAY THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE AND NO MAN SHALL SEE THE FATHER BUT BY ME. ROMAN 10:9 THAT IF THOU SHALT CONFESS WITH THY MOUTH THE LORD JESUS,AND SHALT BELIEVE IN THINE HEART THAT GOD HATH RAISED HIM FROM THE DEAD,THOU SHALT BE SAVED. SO THERE IS MORE TO BEING SAVE THAN JUST READING THE BIBLE, YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER,SON AND THE HOLY SPIRIT.ONE MUST EXCEPT THE LORD AS THIER LORD AND SOVIOR (REPENT).

I've followed Prince's career from the Purple Rain days and in everyone of his lp's or cd's he has always shared his faith in his God. No matter what his denomination may be this man has deep convictions in his faith and believes. May God continue to bless him and keep him. And peace and love to everyone you as well.

I use to listen to Prince, that was then this is now, when you are born again "BEHOLD" all things are new, you are a new creature in CHRIST JESUS and things that you use to do you don't do anymore. No man can serve two masters, Prince needs to choose whom he's going to serve. Recognizing the gifts that God has blessed him with, why is it that he's not using those gifts to glorify Him(God) instead of the world, the devil, himself ?????????????????????? I'm just asking, I've often heard celeb's or entertainers or people in the business refer to God or Jesus, but answer me this I don't understand how you can make that type of music or perform the way they do and then turn around and say they are Christians or followers of Jesus Christ???? If you are, then what you do should refect Him (WHAT WOULD JESUS DO ???) (HE WOULD REFLECT THE ONE WHO SENT HIM)We are made in His image, so we should pattern ourselves after Him,no I am not casting stones, what I am saying is this Rm. 12:2 "Therefore I urge you brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, Holy and acceptable to God, And be not Conformed to this world but be transformed, in other words the change that has taken place on the inside should be manifested on the outside.

I have always enjoyed Prince.I do think he has been blesse in the talent department. I have always felt that he has a strong believe in God, whatever religion he chooses, he still has faith and I thinks it's great that he knows the Bible. Keep doing what your doing Prince, you make a lot of people happy, and I think he can get people to listen to his message about God through his music if he chooses to do so!

Religion is lies and spirituality is the truth! Can you decipher between the two? Judge ye not sisters and brothers. I am quite sure a lot of you who wrote how can he do this or that have the most funkiest shit in your closet!

I'm of the opinion that since someone is speaking of God & God's word & people (that normally wouldn't be) are hearing it, then let it alone!
Besides, Prince has always had a conviction about faith, God, & the Bible! So, I'd say, 'Let him be, leave him alone, he isn't hurting any of you all & prayerfully he is reaching his following with his beliefs!' No matter what you say, hearing wisdom from the Bible changes lives for the better, not for the worse!
Thanks for this forum, to be able to speak our minds, too! And God bless any one who stands up for Him & His word, too!

It's really funny sometimes when it comes to what the multitude has to say. I have read every response in this blog and many have touched on some good points while others have chosen to be divisive and negative. Me I'm gonna do a bit of both. First, it seems to be very easy to be negative. Somehow it appears to be the first thing many people do. I don't know whether it comes from envy, jealousy or just plain evil but it's definately "Controversy"-al. Unfortunately, theres just too much of it in our society today. I guess it's just an unfortunate "Sign of the times."

No one can rise without many trying to bring the risen down. And, to a certain extent that is a good thing for we are not supposed to elevate alone. We are supposed to elevate then help pull another up. OAll the while giving credit to he who has helped you elevate. We are not to give account to anything or anyone higher than the Master(GOD) Now I use Master(GOD) to get into another point. And that is for those who have criticized the man for not being Christian (Prince is Jehovah's Witness.) Well to those I ask what do you say to the rest of the religiuos world? The over a billion Muslims who out number every religon on the planet, the almost billion Hindu, the Buddist, the Scientologist, the Jewish and every other religon out there that have members who would die without hesitation defending their faith? What say we to them?

And which of us can with all certainty say what GOD considers faithful service. And don't tell me that it says in your book this or that, all those other religons have words in their books too, who of us can truly say whats valid and whats not? As one of you spoke religon and spirituality are different things. GOD is the only judge! GOD!!!

What people often times forget is that dialog is more important than just stating, criticizing and attempting to convert based on your own beliefs. That's a very one sided conversation. Stated more simply as Spike reminded us in the credits of "Do the right thing" MLK Jr's words "dialog is more useful than monologue." It helps to bring about understanding which leads to compassion. As long as we shout at one another we do not really hear one another. When we deny each other we deny ourselves. Understanding each other can help us to understand ourselves.

Prince just like any man has sinned. That doesn't mean he should be condemned. Like any man he has also been blessed, and that does not mean he should be worshipped either. Worship GOD! Appreciate Gods glorified manifestation of gifts in man/woman.

As for me, as long as the man is trying to uplift those less fortunate through the word and his deeds he's doing fine by me. Finding negativity is easy, being positive in action in the face of that negatvity is hard. Thus ends the lesson.

Prince has grown -up, just as we all should. I remember growing up with him. I remember his earlier performances, as I have been a Prince fan since he came on the scene in 76-77. The only difference is he grew in the public eye, as many of us grew up in private. Its too easy to say look at what he did, and his antics back then (Which I loved back then)but for many of the doubters, look at what he has become, nothing short of a musical genieus who has finally found his way home, home to God. I applaud that and welcome him to the family of all of us who realizes that we truly blessed! Keep up the good work Prince and continue to grow.

I recently commented on the Prince issue,I by no means am I downing him,or judging him because I have to stand in judgement for my own sins none of us are without sin, but I am curious how you can profess God and your actions (music, jirations,etc..) are contrary to who He(GOD) is, it's like oil and water they just don't go together.I don't see how God get any glory from what he does. If he were singing praises unto God then I would applaud him, but he's not.I was not born saved and I have'nt always lived right,But when you learn better you do better. To me it seems hypocritical, why is it that so many of you seem to up hold him in what he does????????? I'm just asking, trying to understand you alls reasoning. If I offened anyone please forgive me as that is not my heart, I merely read the article and commented based on what I have learned about GOD, and what His word says.

also, I have been an avid fan of Prince since his early days. I just want to say, judge not lest you be judged. Prince is offering us his feelings as for his belief and where he is taking his testimony is an awesome thing no matter what is in the depths of his heart and mind. He professes to be a child of God and that should be not for us to judge at the present time. As a born again christian I know this much, that speaking about the Lord takes alot of guts and it shows that he is not embarrassed of the Lord . Cause, if we are embarrassed of the Lord , so will he not know us to his Father. I hope I got that out right . God Bless you Prince as you have touched my life and thankyou. Keep trusting in Him and don't worry about the critcs as long as you and the Lord have it together. Karen Glatz

Prince is at the crossroads, and Praise God for speaking to his heart. It is a beginning and we (Christians) all know what God can do with hungry heart. From what I am reading in the comments the work has already begun.
