Here at Beliefnet, everyone loves angels. We even have an entire section of the site devoted to them. I think angels are great and all, but as with anything, sometimes you just want to get away from the stuff that you work with all day long. I’m sure at the end of the day bakers hate cake, painters hate paint, and teachers hate kids (just kidding!). But I’m finding that I can’t get away from the subject of angels, even when I’m not at work.
I recently scrolled through my iPod and realized that I own an abnormally high number of songs with the word “angel” in the title. So, do musicians love angels just as much as Beliefnet readers? Or is it a sign that angels are with me wherever I go? Hmmm …
Anyway, here are my top 10 favorite songs that have “angel” in the title:
10. “Angel,” by Shaggy
So, it doesn’t have the most intelligent lyrics in the world (Girl, you’re my angel, you’re my darling angel/Closer than my peeps you are to me, baby/Shorty, you’re my angel, you’re my darling angel … ), but it does have a fun beat and flow, which makes it a nice party staple.
9. “Earth Angel,” by The Penguins
This oldie-but-a-goodie has been covered by so many artists over the past 50 years for a reason.
8. “Angel,” by Madonna
I remember as a little girl, putting on my cassette tape to sing along to this pretty song by the pop princess—and then promptly being scolded by my mom for singing along to the album’s next track, “Like a Virgin.”
7. “Angel” by Aerosmith
Steven Tyler’s pained vocals and beautiful guitar work by Joe Perry make this song one of my favorites from this legendary rock band.
6.”Angel” by Sarah McLachlan
McLachlan’s ethereal voice on this track uplifts my soul.
5. “How Do You Talk to An Angel,” by The Heights
Was I the only one who thought Jamie Walters’ hotness was enough to keep “The Heights” on the air?
4. “Lips of an Angel,” by Hinder
I choose to ignore the fact that it’s a song about cheating on your significant other–
and instead focus on the lead singer’s wonderfully raspy voice.
3. “Angel,” by Jimi Hendrix
The guitar god’s poetry in this song gives me goose bumps.
2. “I’ll Never Let You Go (Angel Eyes),” by Steelheart
One of the most awesome metal ballads of all time. Is it wrong to want this as my wedding song?
1. “She Talks to Angels,” by The Black Crowes
Who knew a song about drug addition could be so beautiful.
What are your favorite “angel” songs?

Angels Among Us…
This has such a strong impact on me I am teary as I type this. My boys and I were going through one of our more challenging times and it was the Christmas season 1991. My youngest asked if I could take my lunch early from work and be at church by 11:00 am on a Friday. He wanted to give me an early Christmas present. He even instructed me exactly where to sit. I arrived early, sat exactly where he instructed me and ended up receiving one of the greatest gifts I will ever receive from him. It was 11:00 am and a very special procession began with every 1st grader entering the church. Once they were all in place the singing began. It just so happened, I was sitting in the spot with my son standing at my right side. The glorious sound that filled the church was the sound of children singing from the bottom of their heartsand the words and melody of Angels Among Us filled the air and my heart.
I had to hold back the tears so my son did not misinterpret tears of deeply felt love with those of unhappiness. He held my hand as he sang to me “my favorite song” and unknowingly was giving to me one of his most precious gifts.
Eleven years passed as we heard the song play over and over many times. Faith was always the start of each and everyday and I promised my boys that life is beautiful and there will be great things to come.
On September 5, 2002 I shared once again one of the priceless times in my life and married the most wonderful man in the world. Each and every piece of music played at our reception had a special dedication to a family member present in body and/or spirit. The time came to share 3 minutes with each son on the dance floor. There was no hesitation for song selection. I chose “Child of Mine” for my oldest son (I chose it very carefully for his wedding, it only seemed fit to share it once again at mine.) The selection for my middle son was “Count on Me” to reinforce we are always there for any guidance he ever wants or needs. And… it did not take a second to know the only song to spend 3 mins on the dance floor with my youngest son was once again “Angels Among Us”. I believe that song will always bring a tear to my eye everytime I hear it… it touches my heart very deaply.

I just gained a new angel and his name is Jared. He died July 24th of 2007 at the age of 17. In his hospital room, 2 days before he died” he had his grandmother present me with an indian star quilt. I knew it had sincere and precious meaning to it but I wanted to know more so I looked on the internet. This is the meaning of a star quilt:
The mythology as well as the traditions of our North American Indian tribes shows a religious observance of the stars and a reverence for all the heavenly bodies. The Milky Way is called the “Pathway of Departed Souls”. After death it is believed, by many indian Americans, that the spirit of the deceased passes on this pathway to the Southern Star, the abiding place of the dead. It is thought that to the Stars, the Great Spirit gave the power to watch over mortals on earth and impart to them the spiritual blessings. The Star Quilt is given today as a token of this belief. Southwest Peoples call this “God’s Eye.” It is customary at the death of a relative to enhance their glory and memorialize their name……..
Thanks for your time………….Danielle

I really like the song “Concrete Angels” by Martina McBride because she cares about abused children and wants them to feel safe. I don’t think anyone should hurt kids but “if they die young then they’ll fly to a place where they’re loved.” Angels are real and I believe in them especially when you’re hurt inside wanting to know the truth about life but it’s really in you the whole time.

This is for Zoe who posted on Aug. 16. You were looking for a song by Mario Lanza called Guardian Angel. I wasn’t doing anything so I decided to give it a try and search for you. I found a site called rhapsody where you download a player and then music from their site. I live in Canada and only people from the US can use the site apparently so I couldn’t test it. I would suggest maybe reading a bit about what it all involves first but I think I have heard of this site. Anyway the address for the album I found the song on that will take you straight to your song is : http://www.rhapsody.com/mariolanza/temptation
The last word is the album I found it on. I hope this was of use to you, take care. I love angel songs too, although I love music of many kinds. God bless, Jackie

Borrowed Angels
They shine a little brighter, they feel a little more;
They touch your life in ways,
no one has ever done before;
They love a little stronger,
And live to give their best;
And make our lives so blessed;
So why do they go so soon,
The ones with souls so beautiful;
I heard someone say…there must be:
Borrowed angels, here in this life;
they come along into this world,
and make this world bright;
But they can’t stay forever; cause they’re heaven-sent
And sometimes heaven needs them back again.
They reach a little deeper, to see what’s in your soul;
And even when they leave you know,
You’ll never let them go;
The world’s a little richer, just cause they came along;
Their love goes on and on, and on….
So why do they go so soon, The ones with souls so beautiful:
I heard someone say, there must be:
Borrowed angels, here in this life;
They come along into this world, and make this world bright;
But they can’t stay forever, cause they’re heaven-sent,
And sometimes, heaven needs them back again.
How else can you explain why they’re here,
and not here to stay;
I believe, I believe, there must be,
I believe there must be:
Borrowed angels, here in this life;
They come along into this world,
And make this world bright; but
They can’t stay forever, cause they’re heaven-sent.
And sometimes, heaven needs them back again.
And sometimes, heaven needs them back again.
I find this song very comforting after my son was killed so young. So it is my favorite.

OK this song doesn’t use word ‘angel’ but it sure reminds me of angels:
The Sacrament” by HIM
I hear you breathe so far from me
I feel your touch so close and real
And I know
My church is not of silver and gold,
It’s glory lies beyond judgement of souls
The commandments are of consolation and warmth
You know our sacred dream won’t fail
The sanctuary tender and so frail
The sacrament of love
The sacrament of warmth is true
The sacrament is you
I hear you weep so far from me
I taste your tears like you’re next to me
And I know
My weak prayers are not enough to heal
Oh the ancient wounds so deep and so dear
The revelation is of hatred and fear
You know our sacred dream won’t fail
The sanctuary tender and so frail
The sacrament of love
The sacrament of warmth is true
The sacrament is you
The sacrament is you
The sacrament is you
The sacrament is you
The sacrament is you
You know our sacred dream won’t fail
The sanctuary tender and so frail
The sacrament of love
The sacrament of warmth is true
The sacrament is you
You know our sacred dream won’t fail
The sanctuary tender and so frail
The sacrament of love
The sacrament of warmth is true
The sacrament is you

I have two favorite “Angel” songs, as my name is Angel….LOL. They are Anita Baker’s “My Angel”, and Angela Winbush’s “Angel”. I don’t know all the words to Angela’s song but I know most of the lyrics to Anita’s.
Ooh, Ooooh, Oooh Oooh, Ooh (repeat 6x)
Verse 1:
If I could I’d give you the world
I’d wrap it all around you
won’t be satisfied with just a piece on the side
Chorus:
My Angel
Oh Angel
You’re My Angel
Oh Angel
Dreams are dreams
Some dreams come true
I found the real dream,
baby when I found you
You’re so strong,
but tender too
(repeat Chorus 3x)
Love like ours is heaven sent
Each day I need to remember
I feel so safe
I feel secure with you, YOOOOOOOU
Give me what, where I don’t give in
Fill me up,
baby with the joy of living
When things get tough,
I can’t always count on you
(repeat Chorus 3x)
Bridge:
I love the way we touch
I love the way it feels
Everytime you’re near me my poor heart
just won’t keep still
No doubt about it,
that this love I feel is real
Ask me to go with you?
You know I will
Hold me near
Hold me tight
Only you can make it real
Only you can make it alright
Just let me know that I am special to you
(repeat Chorus out)

Here are the lyrics…
What if she’s an Angel. by Tommy Shane Steiner
There’s a man standing on the corner
With a sign sayin “will work for food”
You know the man
You see him every morning
The one you never give your money to
You can sit there with your window rolled up
Wondering when the lights going to turn green
Never knowing what a couple more bucks
In his pocket might mean
What if he’s an angel sent here from Heaven
And he’s making certain that you’re doing your best
To take the time to help one another
Brother are you going to pass that test
You can go on with your day to day
Trying to forget what you saw in his face
Knowing deep down it could have been his saving grace
What if he’s an angel
There’s a man
There’s a woman
Living right above you in apartment G
There’s alot of noise coming from the ceiling
And it don’t sound like harmony
You can sit there with your TV turned up
While the words and his anger fly
Come tomorrow when you see her with her shades on
Can you look her in the eye
What if she’s sent here from heaven
And she’s making certain that you’re doing your best
To take the time to help one another
Brother are you going to pass that test
You can go on with your day to day
Trying to forget what you saw in her face
Knowing deep down it could have been her saving grace
What if she’s an angel
A little girl on daddy’s lap
Hiding her disease with a baseball cap
You can turn the channel
Most people do
But what if you were sitting in her daddy’s shoes
Maybe she’s an angel
Sent here from Heaven
And she’s making certain you’re doing your best
To take the time to help one another
Brother are you going to pass that test
You can go on with your day to day
Trying to forget what you saw in her face
Knowing deep down it could have been her saving grace
What if she’s an angel

Unfortunately for me my songs will never be available to the public to listen to them because I am not a well known person, but if I had the

There is a song on itunes titled “Somebody Sent Me An Angel” by the artist Kayte Strong that needs to be included here…this is a poignant song about finding love later in life just when you are about to give up. This song falls into the same message category as the story about the leaf posted on the main page 8/29/07.
(Forget songs about cheating/addiction as they send the wrong message. Funny how a beautiful melody or a great performance can seduce people into thinking a song is what it isn’t…. Remember the principles of Divine Attraction aka the “Secret” and you will know why I encourage you to choose your songs according to what you want to bring into your life.)

All those ‘Angel’ songs mentioned are great, but I also love the song “Angel of the Morning” by Juice Newton. I wonder how many people realize that Shaggy’s “Angel” is set to the same music as “Angel of the Morning”. Of course Shaggy’s version has a much more gangsta/hip-hop sound, but nonetheless it’s the same tune (but just the music, not the lyrics/words…the words are entirely different). Angel songs are awesome!!! O:)
P.S. For the record, I don’t think the lyrics to Shaggy’s “Angel” are at all unintelligible. I personally think they’re sweet words and speaks to the heart of anyone in love. :X

this is for josh i have always loved angels and believe with all of my heart that they exist.my son joshua ,was killed in a car accident seven years ago. he was exactly one week shy of turning 18.he was a great kid, very givingand sincere.i believe he would have been a very honorable man. i never met anyone who didn’t like him. everytime i hear an angel song i think of him and like to believe he is with me at that moment. i thought i was the only one who knew about jimi hendrix’s song angel!!!! mmy favorite.. i also like sarah mclachlan’s angel,i am a recovering heroin addict, and know the black crowe’s song word for word,it pretty much dictated my life right after my son’s death.it is by the grace of god that i am still on this earth and have 3 years sober! i have two grown daughters and a beautiful granddaughter. i have found peace and know i’ll see josh again for now i’m happy with all i have, including my angels!

my sister margie passed away unexpectedly in november 1999. the song ‘angel’ by sarah mclaughlin means alot to myself and my family, and the picture you frequently see of a guardian angel watching over two children crossing over a broken bridge is symbolic of margie to my family and friends. we know that she watches over us every day, and helps those she loves now in a way she was not able to do while on the earth. i have been learning alot about angels since her death, and am not sure if indeed she is an angel now or some other type of spirit that is able to send love and protection. but i do know that angels exist, and they are all around us, and want to help us. all we have to do is ask them. several years ago i prayed for hedges of protection around my children, at a time when i had to work alot and they were vulnerable, and they came through unscathed and are now quite lovely people, sensitive and thoughtful of others. i will always be thankful to the angels for this. also recently my father had a lung transplant,
and angels kept watch over him from the moment he got in the car to go to the hospital, through the operation, in intensive care, and even now when he is home healing and enjoying a new healthier life. i know this post is lengthy, but my belief in angels is strong. i am thankful for this opportunity to share my experiences.

What is She’s an Angel-Brad Paisley
There’s a man standing on the corner
With a sign sayin “will work for food”
You know the man
You see him every morning
The one you never give your money to
You can sit there with your window rolled up
Wondering when the lights going to turn green
Never knowing what a couple more bucks
In his pocket might mean
What if he’s an angel sent here from Heaven
And he’s making certain that you’re doing your best
To take the time to help one another
Brother are you going to pass that test
You can go on with your day to day
Trying to forget what you saw in his face
Knowing deep down it could have been his saving grace
What if he’s an angel
There’s a man
There’s a woman
Living right above you in apartment G
There’s alot of noise coming from the ceiling
And it don’t sound like harmony
You can sit there with your TV turned up
While the words and his anger fly
Come tomorrow when you see her with her shades on
Can you look her in the eye
What if she’s sent here from heaven
And she’s making certain that you’re doing your best
To take the time to help one another
Brother are you going to pass that test
You can go on with your day to day
Trying to forget what you saw in her face
Knowing deep down it could have been her saving grace
What if she’s an angel
A little girl on daddy’s lap
Hiding her disease with a baseball cap
You can turn the channel
Most people do
But what if you were sitting in her daddy’s shoes
Maybe she’s an angel
Sent here from Heaven
And she’s making certain you’re doing your best
To take the time to help one another
Brother are you going to pass that test
You can go on with your day to day
Trying to forget what you saw in her face
Knowing deep down it could have been her saving grace
What if she’s an angel

That cluster of cacophony is a disgrace to angelic songs around the world. Listen to Ben Harper’s “Waiting on an Angel”, Dave Matthews “Angel”, Counting Crows “Miller’s Angels” and “Angels of the Silences”and you’ll see “lips of an angel” for what it really is–a big piece of poop disguised as music.

There’s an ‘Angel’ song that I started singing to my grandson when he was born. He was 27 weeks gestation and weighed only two pounds when he came to this realm. I couldn’t hold him because he was too frail and only his mommy or daddy were allowed. So, every day I sang: “You are my special Angel, sent from up above. The Lord smiled down at me and sent an Angel to love…”, I still sing it to him, he’s now 5 years old. I don’t know the group that recorded this song, but I remember it from the 60′s.
Maybe someone out there knows who sang it? Thanks!

“but if you could…do you think you would

ah, but then you’d miss
the beauty of the light upon this earth
and the sweetness of the leaving…”

It is a song that asks the “Angels”..”if you can’t solve the problem, come and tell me to my face..” It is a very, very different song for Geddy Lee, a reflection on the tragedy his friend and band mate (Rush drummer Neil Peart) went through when he lost his daughter and wife within a one year period. “I’ll Never Let You Go (Angel Eyes),” by Steelheart
If this is the song I think it is, I love and cherish it with all my heart. My 21 year old son loved t as well, because I always used to tell him that he had angel eyes. Unfortunately, February 28, 2007 , a higher power decided he did too, and took him from our family and tore us apart. He left for work one day at 5:28 running a couple of minutes behind because he was feeling a little dizzy and didn’t know why. Two miles up the road from our house, he had a head on collision with another vehicle, killing both drivers, hopefully, instantly from blunt force trauma, him to the torso, her, I have to assume to the upper part of the body. A tragedy to all, she was I believe 26 or 27 and he was 21, she was married, both had no children.
Three years to the day, my son, Josh, had to go far north and find his cousins Dad to bring him home to his wife and give him the news that his son, Joshua’s favorite buddy cousin had died in a snowmobile accident around the same time of day and that the State Police was waiting outside the camp, that they had to sled out of, to give him a ride home to his wife and daughter.
Three months from that day, another one of Joshua’s cousins, went to the hospital with strep throat, they gave her antibiotics with a shot of morphine and sent her home, where she died that evening. She had been allergic and hadn’t known it. She lived in Arizona, age 27, a new husband and child of barely three years, and another child, who was barely 18 months.
Anyway, off track, if anyone knows where I can get the words to that song, I have no money after the funeral since I am disabled, but I would appreciate it. Thanks.

My most favorite angel song is:
“What if she’s an Angel?” by Tommy Shane Steiner.
Tommy’s troubador vocal magic talks to me like my own thoughts… and makes this song linger in my heart and mind long after I listen to it.
My next most favorite angel song is:
“I’m Your Angel” by Celine Dion and R-Kelly.
An unspeakable musical experience… I listen to this song and within its beauty… I transcend all earthly cares and concerns… Heaven.
And.. my next most fav angel song is:
“On Angel’s Wings” by Westlake (also performed by R-Kelly)
LIstening to this song… the music and the lyrics… OMG… Even though I have seen angels in my life… and know most of them to look quite ordinary (with exception of a mile high and wide and deep aura around them) … I can close my eyes and feel like I am flying … I feel whole and complete and wonderfully made… listening to this song. These lyrics:
‘Now I know no matter what the question
Love is the answer
It’s written on angel’s wings’
Cause within me the stirring… the knowing… why I am here and what I am most genuinely about in this life.
That’s my 3 top fav angel songs.
Namaste’

IT SAYS– YOU ARE MY PRECIOUS ANGEL, SENT FROM HEAVEN ABOVE, YOU ARE MY PRECIOUS ANGEL, YOU ARE MY LOVE. AND THEY LOVE IT SO MUCH. I AM SURE THERE ARE MORE WORDS TO THE SONG BUT IT FILLS MY HEART TO SING IT TO THESE PRECIOUS LITTLE ANGELS. AND THAT THEY ARE. WHAT A JOY.

I still can’t believe that no one thought of that wonderful song written by John Prine, “Angel from Montgomery.” It’s been covered by Bonnie Raitt, and it is such a beautiful song filled with tender, haunting imagery.
Bonnie Raitt’s version:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5HpW1Sula8
John Prine’s version:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpuJisDGldM
Lyrics:
I am an old woman named after my mother
My old man is another child that’s grown old
If dreams were lightning thunder was desire
This old house would have burnt down a long time ago
Chorus:
Make me an angel that flies from montgom’ry
Make me a poster of an old rodeo
Just give me one thing that I can hold on to
To believe in this living is just a hard way to go
When I was a young girl well, I had me a cowboy
He weren’t much to look at, just free rambling man
But that was a long time and no matter how I try
The years just flow by like a broken down dam.
Repeat chorus
There’s flies in the kitchen I can hear ‘em there buzzing
And I ain’t done nothing since I woke up today.
How the hell can a person go to work in the morning
And come home in the evening and have nothing to say.
Repeat chorus

Angel and Men by Juno Reactor is a Techno/Electronica genre with a haunting humming at the begining and through out that entices the listener. I’m inspired in the mornings when I listen to it.
Moby also has a song Homeward Angel that makes you feel at home and at peace even with the slight hint of Techno/Electronica. I can relax and meditate to this song.
Angel by the Eurythmics is a song that talks about an older woman taking her life and meeting her maker but the chorus, “My Angel fly over me. My Angel fly over me,” touches you.
Send Me an Angel by Marry G. is an up beat song that talks about finding love in a beatuiful woman. Thus asking to be sent a love from Heaven above.

God is in all of my songs. Not his name, not anything particular about Him. Just the fact that I feel I write all my songs with God, it’s in the feelings, it’s in the words, and the melodies. It’s in the experiences I write about and share with this world. And yes, there’s one song, in particular, that I’ve also written that, actually the name “angels”, by the name of angels, and that’s very comforting. I even wrote a special song for this whole world to sing, called ‘A MESSAGE FROM OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN’. But once again, there’s no reference to Him or even to religion. Yet it is so full of Him, and all that is, and can be in just one moment, that lasts forever, or just as long as the song, depending on your time and feelings. Please google singer-songwriter Diane Wayne to find out more about me, and some of these things. May God bless you, and all that is.
Thank you God, and all who are reading and listening.

Angel Flying Too Close To the Ground by Willie Nelson
an incredible song of love with a hauntingly beautiful melody
If you had not have fallen
then I would not have found you
Angel flying too close to the ground
I patched up your broken wing and hung around for a while
trying to keep your spirits up and your fever down
So leave me if you need to, I will still remember
Angel flying too close to the ground.
I knew someday that you would fly away
for love’s the greatest healer to be found
So leave me if you need to, I will still remember
Angel flying too close to the ground
Fly on fly on past, the speed of sound
I’d rather see you up than see you down
So leave me if you need to, I will still remember
Angel flying too close to the ground.

check out “Calling All Angels” by Train. My favorite Angel song.
I need a sign to let me know you’re here
All of these lines are being crossed over the atmosphere
I need to know that things are gonna look up
‘Cause I feel us drowning in a sea spilled from a cup
When there is no place safe and no safe place to put my head
When you feel the world shake from the words that are said
[Chorus:]
And I’m calling all angels
I’m calling all you angels
I won’t give up if you don’t give up [Repeat x4]
I need a sign to let me know you’re here
‘Cause my TV set just keeps it all from being clear
I want a reason for the way things have to be
I need a hand to help build up some kind of hope inside of me
(Chorus)
When children have to play inside so they don’t disappear
While private eyes solve marriage lies cause we don’t talk for years
And football teams are kissing Queens
and losing sight of having dreams
In a world that what we want is only what we want until it’s ours
[Chorus x2]
Calling all you angels [Repeat till fade]

Alright, I don’t really agree with this list although it is ok…but “Earth angel” should definitely be up near #1 as well as “Angel of the morning” which the author has listed as “Angel” by Shaggy. The original version of Shaggy’s “Angel” is “Angel of the morning” by Merrilee Rush and the most popular version of the song by the same name is from Juice Newton. Good stuff, much better than Shaggy! Although he did do a pretty good R&B version.

I like borrowed angels. That’s a good song and soo true!!!!!!!!!!!! I don’t know how these people survive even a day without the loss of a loved one. If I had a daughter, I wouldn’t survive.
