Faith Amid the Rubble

posted by dross

Just in time for the sixth anniversary of the September 11 attacks, a beautiful new Christian documentary, “The Cross and the Towers,” has been released. The film tells the stories of a number of the rescue workers at the World Trade Center site, and how many found strength and inspiration in what some say was a miracle–amid a huge pile of rubble, two beams standing upright in the shape of a cross. Watch a clip from the movie.

What Price Would You Pay for Religious Freedom?
It’s a question that’s especially valid today as the Catholic Church battles with our government over the proposed healthcare mandate requiring faith-based institutions to cover contraception.  We ask ourselves if this is a breach of religious liberty and if so, how will this fight will end? Â

WWJD II - The Woodcarver
It can be difficult to find family friend entertainment these days. Even cartoons aimed at children can have poor attitudes and language that you'd never want your little ones spouting off. There have been any number of times where, in shock, I've turned something off that my kids were watching that

With all due respect to the rescuers and other workers at the Trade Center site — who were exhausted and emotional and searching for something positive in all of that death and destruction — there’s nothing amazing about finding steel beams in the shape of a cross. Of course they found crosses. The building was made up of intersecting steel beams; the whole thing was crosses.
If those crosses gave some people a feeling of strength, that’s terrific. But I sure hope the documentary isn’t suggesting that the crosses were a “sign” that god was “with” the workers at Ground Zero. Because, I gotta tell ya, I’d have preferred that god were “with” the pilots and passengers of those planes, or airport security personnel, or the FBI — or anybody who could have prevented the planes from being flown into those buildings.

With all due respect, Timbo, God was there.
See, God gave us the gift of “free will” It means no matter how horribe and tragic this was, God has vowed not to interfere.
God did not take those towers down- MAN did.
We as humans, don’t want God dictating our every move and decision, we keep him on a “need to know basis” on the sidelines to help out when and IF we need him.
Then we ask “Where were you God?”
In God’s love for us- he felt the pain and sorrow and gave a peaceful loving sign- “I am here”
Those who were open to it, witnessed it and were tremendously moved by it.
God cannot control, or should I say- will not control man, he can only assure us that he is always with us. Sometimes, we are blessed to see a “sign” of his presence.
Like a rainbow, after a violent storm.

I KNOW GOD WAS WITH MY NEPHEW ON 9/11. HE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO START A JOB AT THE PENTAGON ON 9/10 BUT DECIDED AGAINST IT FOR ONE REASON OR ANOTHER. IF HE HAD TAKEN THAT JOB, HE WOULD HAVE BEEN WORKING AT THE PRECISE AREA THAT THE PLANE CRASHED INTO. GOD HAD BETTER THINGS IN STORE FOR HIM. I ALWAYS LOOK FOR IMAGES THAT PROVE GOD’S WATCHING OVER US. SURE THE BEAMS CROSS EACH OTHER, BUT HOW COME NOT EVERYONE SAW THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE CROSSES AND THOSE BEAMS WERE RIGHT ON TOP OF THE RUBBLE FOR ALL TO SEE?

I AM A CHRISTIAN AND I BELIEVE IN JESUS AND THE POWER OF THE CROSS AND PRAYER. BUT I HAVE TO AGREE WITH THE OTHER 2 COMENTS. THERE WERE LOTS OF METALS CONNECTED WITH A CROSS SHAPE.
BUT, IN MOMENT OF PANIC, TRIAL AND TRIBULATION I CAN UNDERSTAND THE EMOTION FELT WHEN SEEING THE SIGN OF THE CROSS AND THE STRENGH GIVEN IN FAITH TO THE ONES IN NEED.
MANY BLESSINGS FOR ALL.

I am so glad that you have watched the movie and posted your comment. Timbo, we are praying for you.God didn’t leave the 3 young men alone nor the people on 9/11. You must understand what was going on prior to the crosses appearing to the workers.God knows just what is needed and when.We must learn to be slow to speak and be specific of our request to God.The crosses were an experience and testment to the workers that God heard their prayers and was truly with them.If you or anyone experience the presence of The Lord-you shall never be the same. The experience was not ours but the workers at the site that particular day.God is always on duty 24/7.He still hears people’s petitions and he’s heard yours.God Bless you and be not careful to whom you entertain-it might be a messenger from God!

Anytime I see anything on 9/11 I get very emotional, I agree with all those saying this was an act of man and not God, he did give us free will and the ability to make decisions, and unfortunitely manyt man are choosing the wrong decisions, we are falling way to much in dependency of what materialistic stuff we have and how much better is it than oour neighbors, Its crazy! We so need to be thank ful for what God has given us, for some reason he left us all here that day, that tradegy could of happened anywhere, we have a purpose and regardless we need to do his works, i pray for all those touched by that tragic event and wish I could wipe away your fears and hurt, you will always be in my prayers !

I always get very emotional when I think about or see anything in regard to Serptmeber 11, 2001. This is the first time I have seen the Cross. I prayed for everyone sat Ground Zero and knew God was withm all of you. My brother used to live in New York, so N.Y. always holds a special place in my heart. My brother went shortly after and took some pictures to show us, it was very overwhelming. We will never forget 9/11/ 2001. I wear a bracelet in memory of those who died that day. Your families are in my prayers.

I lived 45 minuted from The Towers on that surreal day!. I felt as if I was watching a movie with special effects!. I knew 35 people who did not make it out alive. I have a cousin who got married three weeks before and came to work five minutes late that day because he took a different train from Long Island to share his joy with another cousin. All the friends I met at his wedding were not as fortunate and perished in the buildings. I truly believe God was there and that cross was a sign of his presence. There are so many stories like my cousins. I thank God every day for sparing him. He now has two beautiful children- ages one and three. I look at them and know that cross was there for those who were saved and for those who needed prays and his hand at the end to take them with him.
I pray for the families. Though no one can GO BACK and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending- Carl Bard. I believe with God’s love and guidance we can stand together and make a differnt ending!
God Bless everyone!

CINDY STORY

I live in Illinois and was at work in a hospital the day this happened. We watched it on television and were in complete disbelief. We, like so many others hurt for all of the people and their families involved and were also scared of what might come next. I still think about that day alot even when it isn’t yet near and my heart still aches for the loss of so many lives, one would have been too many. I am going through some things in my own life now and am looking to find my way. The cross in the midst of the destruction and the readings are wonderful for finding hope in any chaos. I believe in God and don’t blame him for what is going on in my life or for the terrible things that have happened to all people over the years but, also believe and know that we are allowed to make our own choices and that sometimes they are just not the right ones for us. We have to find the strength, will and faith to go on and to also not make those mistakes and/or choices again. Faith in God as well as trust is what we can depend on in this world. God bless everyone now and always.

I had no friends or relatives in the towers. I lost no one I knew that day but seeing the planes chash into the towers took my breath away. I gasped for breath while struggling to comprehend the magitude of what had just happened. While still reeling from the attack on the towers I watched as one tower fall then the second. In utter shock I pinched my self to see if I was dreaming. O God this is real I gasped. I sat for hours going over and over in my mind how does any living human comprend doing this to other living humans let alone carry out such a horrific deed. The evil, the hatred and the total disguard for human feelings is unimagineable. I can’t find adaquate words to express the depth of my anguish and pain. I can’t even allow my self to think of how I might deal with a tragedy such as this if it had happened to someone I knew or loved.
Everyday since that tragic day I try to find time to reflect and pray for the families and friends who lost someone special that terrible day in our history. I ask God to remember my prayer should I forget to pray. The only thing I hold on to is that one day the perpetrators of this act will pay inkind for their horrific deeds and one day good will triumph over evil. I say to you America “Let us never forget what happened on that day and vow to do all in our power to help prevent it from ever happening again”. Our most powerful weapon is God and prayer. Pray as you have never prayed before. Ask God to intervene and stand between us and this evil hatred. Protect us our Hevenly Father bring comfort to those who suffered loss on 911
