Kathy Griffin Worships at the Alter of Ego

Tuesday September 11, 2007

Categories: Celebrities
I once referred to comic and D-List celebrity Kathy Griffin as “my favorite atheist” because I have enjoyed her self-deprecating humor on her reality series, “My Life on the D List." But her acceptance speech at last weekend's creative Emmys...

(I am sure she would not tolerate such a disgusting remark comment toward one of her "gays," as she calls her homsexual fan base)
Actually, if you watch her show as you claim to, you would know this is not accurate. She is the first to make 'offensive' jokes at the expense of her 'gays.'
..but her comments revealed her to be a worshipper as well as a slave to the same ego-driven, attention-starved lifestyle of the A- list stars she mocks.
Why can't you get that in her acceptance remarks, she is continuing the mocking? Her comments highlight the inappropriate manner in which Hollywood worships awards and money and fame and fortune. It was a joke! God has a sense of humor! She gave each of us one of our own and intended that we use it!

Kathy Griffin is twisted in that she does indeed mock the ego-driven narcissism of Hollywood, but she also engages in it. She makes her living from it and eagerly tries to be part of it.

Her crass line aimed at Jesus is in line with her self-described militant atheism.

The Emmy is truly an idol for her. Whether she intended her line to be funny or not.

However, this time I just can't defend Griffin.

I'm sure Griffin is going to lose sleep over that...

Oh get over it. it's a funny line. i happen to be a christian, but i also don't think there's anything too sacred for humor. i think jesus would get a kick out of this one.

Kathy rocks. If you can't stand jokes aimed at your religion, that's just too damned bad. Suck it up, jocko.

I guess I don't understand what was offensive about Griffen's remarks. Is it any more ego-driven when winners thank God for their success? The assumption being that God personally favored them over all those others who didn't win.

Its a sad day for us christians when we think mocking jesus is funny. And remember having no other gods before me?????You sure would NEVER catch me mocking our lord. She will have to answer to jesus for that.

No, it is GOOD day when we can laugh at jesus. Mock him? Dude, WE ALREADY KILLED HIM!

do you for one mother lovin second do not see yourself as the one who crucified our lord? cause YOU ARE. AND I AM. I am not proud of that fact, but I accept it.

as for mocking our lord:

Jesus walks into a motel, throws a bag of nails on the counter and says, "Can you put me up for the night?"

I have a couple of thoughts on this. First, I am a Christian man and I get a bit nervous when we look to muzzle folks with whom we disagree. That would put us in bad company. Believing or not believing is a choice and if that's how she feels, so be it. I don't like what she said, but we are told to love our enemies (enemies here does not mean foes, but those with whom we disagree). I pray her heart will change before she has to answer to Him for it. Seeing her quote makes me more sad than angry. Second, I think she is right; no one did have less to do with her award than Jesus. I would have a hard time believing that the Jesus I know would have anything to awarding someone whose claim to fame is hosting porn awards. My prayers are with her.

I am sorry I disagree I think Kathy was being at her best at being funny...have a sense of humor if she do not believe in god then she has the right. And Speaking as one of the "gays" who is of catholic upbringing I also must say that God has a sense of humor just look at the way he made the human body for a good laugh. What I think it comes down to is with this new 18th centry pope that was PUT into power the catholic church now believes it has power once again...you can not take a pope seriouly that condemns 1/2 the worlds congregations or holds woman back from the priesthood. So as a god respecting gay man I have to say world lighten up on Kathy its only humor and since she do not believe in god there is no harm except the feelings of those too sensitive about thier faith. If you are secure in your faith then no matter what anybody says about God or Jesus you all ready know the truth and that should be enough.

This is just another indication that Christianity has bocome the safest target for the cultural elite to take cheap shots at with relative 'safety.' Is it offensive? Of course it's offensive! Anyone who pretends that this disrespectful treatment of Our Savior is anything less than blasphemous is being disingenuous, at best. Try this with the revered cultural icons of some of the more 'protected' groups (although there really is no equivalent, since we ARE talking about the Son of God here...). I value freedom of thought, speech, etc. as much as anyone, but I also see a culture that's sliding toward open vulgarity and obscenity on a grand scale. What does that say about us? Is this what we want our children to grow up in?
...doesn't this reveal a deep-seated anger and mean-spiritedness that dwarfs that of the charicatured Christian image this same media tries so hard to imprint on the American public?
I think we can do better for ourselves and our children.

I LOVE Kathy, she is honest and says what many people are thinking. I don't take any offense to what she say's, and do believe Jesus has a great sense of humor and probably get's a kick out of her as well! Look at how Christian Kathy's parents are, did they love her any less for her comment's. No they had just as good,(if not better) sense of humor! So lighten up, if you want to start pointing fingers, I'd start with the Catholic Church, which I grew up in and the devastation it has caused to so many families whose children,(mostly young boys) have been molested by priest and their lives have been ruined or worse! I know a woman personnally whose both young boys had this happen to them. By the time her one son was fourteen, he just couldn't live with the shame anymore, He killed himself! Her life has never and will forever, never be the same.
Be a real Christian, follow Jesus example, let him who is without sin cast the first stone!

Christians must know about these things.I appreciate you printing what she said because we can read without having it broadcast to children. Bert is right, no group of people can be publicly bashed anymore but Christians. How can anyone who knows what Jesus Christ did for us as sinners not be appauled and greived at these words?

I feel sorry for Kathy Griffin and others who do not know the love and forgiveness of Jesus. We need to sincerely pray for these people. It is really sad.

Jesus has a sense of humor but Jesus is also an sacred area and there is a line that Kathy Griffith crossed that is not to be tolerated! She shows me here where she believes she go twhere she is because of herself without God that made her success possible. She is on my "Off-List" now!

I don't know miss Griffin, and I truely will pray for her. Joking or not, saying anything pertaining to worshipping an idol is dangerous.

A comment on here said that the followers of JESUS should do just that, follow HIM, I think we are doing that. I don't understand the anger being thrown at Miss Griffin but I do understand the shock. I don't think it's the disrespect of JESUS, that may have some people upset, I think is it the disrespect she has for her own soul. In my opinion to not have respect for your soul is sad. I would love to talk to her parents(according to a comment on here her parents worship our LORD) to see how it affected them.

GOD doesn't force us to follow him but HE lets us know enough or find out enough to make our own choice. Everyone makes their own choice and no one walking around down here with us should or can judge Miss Griffin. That will come in it's own time.

If anyone reads this I pray that they will not only pray for Miss Griffin, but also pray for us all.

Oh come on people....whenever another comedian gets on stage and makes a joke out of "when Jesus turns water into wine" everyone laughs. Take for instance the "Kings of Comedy" with DL Hughley saying those very words during his 15 minutes of fame on stage. All of you thought it was funny then. Or how bout when Seinfield makes jokes about God and any other comedian who says and does anything to make us laugh. Kathy Griffin has been on the "D" List for some time now and it's the people who keeps her there because they pick and choose who they want to be in the "limelight" So my hat is off to Mrs. Griffin and if it meant that much to her to say hey "I finally made it!" in that aspect than allow her that moment. She has to be the one to deal with it when she goes home at night of what she said, doesn't the Bible tell us not to judge one another or else we too will be judged? And far as the Catholic when are we going to WAKE UP and realize that what they do to small boys is not alright in the eyesight of God and here you guys are worried about a stupid comment that a comedian said just for making us laugh. NO ONE IS LAUGHING ABOUT THE POPE AND ALL THE SMALL CHILDREN THEY HAVE CORRUPT FOR THE REST OF THEIR NATURAL BORN LIVES.So can we please give Mrs. Griffin a second chance it was her moment in fame.

Audrey
September 12, 2007 12:22 PM

I was more shocked than anything, but I think that is what she wanted. That is her M.O.
I think Whoopi said it best on The View when she said something to the effect that God had made this wonderful world and do you think he really cared about some little comment? He has other things to worry about. They talked about how God knows everything and already knew she was going to win and say these remarks.

It just made me think and say, You are right. God is not affected by one person's little comment that was made for shock value.

I thought she was absolutely hilarious. She wasn't making fun of Jesus, she was making fun of all the hypocritical actors and athletes who "humbly" give the credit to Jesus in order to preach at us instead of saying thank you. Gimme a break. Didn't Jesus have something to say about the pious who act holy in public-- that's all the reward they'll be getting. The people who are offended the most are most likely the ones who love putting on an outward show-- don't you think? Anyway, kudos to Kathy!

Kathy has a right to feel the way that she does without being judged by other human beings....but, Kathy, leave JESUS alone and keep HIM out of your humor if you don't believe in or worship HIM. You don't hear HIM bashing you publicly so......don't make fun of HIM in public either. Besides.....with a one-in-a-million chance, What if you are WRONG in your beliefs and end up meeting JESUS face to face?

How sad is it that there are people like this who can't see what the Lord has given them on this earth and they continue to think they are actually responsible for the success they experience. I for one would not trade places with her for all of her current fame and fortune. She will be held to answer for her life, choices, and remarks when she is standing before Jesus when her time her is done. She really needs to wake up and conduct herself as she ahould before she does swim in that lake of fire. How sad is it that she has access to millions of people and could help to spread the good news of Christ and all he has done for humanity and she chooses to waste this gift on saying such foul, useless things. Perhaps soon the good Lord will take the camersa away from her face and let her live life like most of the rest of us do, i a non public, personal manner. I truly hope she has a true conversion and becomes a person who uses her opportunuties to speak out for Jesus and changes from the sad, pathetic human she is today.

I am sure that the POWER'S THAT SUPPOSEDLY BE are big enough to take a little humor. If you look around at the ironies here on earth, they do have a sense of humor. If we are truly made in their image, we are them and our successes and failures are ours to enjoy or suffer because of.

Whats more sad than anything is that all you people are standing around the campfire in judgement over another person. The claim of believeing in Jesus, God, or whom else it may be, is a CHOICE that you have made on your own. It should not be forced on others! The act of free agency is, and has always been, the option of a person for thier own life. Sure you believe in one thing and she beleives in another. The only difference here is, SHE'S NOT JUDGEING YOU!!!!! Love one another, but only if you believe in Jesus and God????

Beyond the censorship and freedom of speech versus freedom of religion issue, there’s a much bigger problem. Frankly, I’m amazed that more Christians haven’t noticed this one or commented on it.

Agnostic Kathy Lee had no problem trotting out “the Image of God the Trinity,” and “her faith” when it would sell CD’s. During an appearance on “Larry King Live” that aired February 5, 2004, Kathy Lee was in promoting her new CD and an accompanying meditation book called "Gentle Grace." The following night, she was to guest star on ABC's "Hope and Faith." (Ironically, with Kelly Ripa.) Faith seemed good enough for her then, and she stated, “My faith has been a part of my life since I was 12 years old, the deepest part of myself. So often in life we just ignore our souls and we're trinities. I believe we're made in the image of God and he's a trinity. And if we're made in his image we're physical, we're mental and we're spiritual people.

”And we take great pains to take work out and get our body great, we take great pains sure we're sharp when we take all of our vitamins and everything. But the one thing we don't do is feed our soul and our spirit and people wonder why they're unhappy or why they don't feel like there are any answers in their life or they're lonely or something's missing.

”I don't tell people how to believe. I encourage them to believe something, because it's just essential for your whole well-being. Every part of your being needs attention.”

So, which is it, Kathy? Since you’ve stated on “D List” that you really are an atheist, and don’t actually believe any of this, is another person’s faith something that can be dressed up and trotted out when you need to push your product, and then tossed by the side of the road and mocked when it no longer serves your purpose? For that matter, how many other celebrities choose to trot out their favorite religion or ideology when they think it will sell a product only to toss it to the side when it’s served its purpose?

To me, this is far more tacky and disrespectful than Kathy’s comments themselves. I firmly believe that each person’s own faith response is something that’s deeply held and personal, and should be treated with respect. However, I also believe in free speech, free thought, and a free flow of information. In this case, that information happens to be “Kathy Lee Griffith will say anything to get attention and make a buck.”

Evelyn Beatrice Hall, writing as S. G. Tallentyre, from her biography, The Friends of Voltaire (1906), wrote the famous quote, "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." (Later, Avram Grumer wrote “I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to misattribute this quote to Voltaire.”)

I would add my own quote to this list. “I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to make an ass of yourself on national television.”

I had the displeasure of seeing Kathy in Kalamazoo, Michigan a few months back, granted, I used to like her, at least on tv. I sat second row center and put up with what i thought was a MAN bashing, UNFUNNY, GAY/LESBIAN FEST. Now do not get me wrong. I have no problem with the gay/lesbian community but this was the uber gay population at this show. I left that show feeling empty in my brain, my wallet and in my manhood. This evil munchkin or flying monkey has no business criticizing anyone or anything. She is an unintelligent waste of my time. I will never pay to see her again, nor will I watch anything she is on, but, for the rest of you that like her, more power to ya. I will never be the one who takes away our freedom of speech, I will just change the channel.

I have never thought that Kathy was amusing or even entertaining . She has always struck me as a bit desperate for success and trying too hard to be funny...she isn't a natural! I guess I have felt a little sorry and embarassed for her. That said, I am just saddened by the fact that she has such disregard for God and Jesus who most of us love, worship and consider sacred. Something is very wrong with those of you who defend offensive, crude, debasing public talk as the "right of speech" and take the attitude that anything goes. We have so lost our way when we hold nothing as sacred or off limits even if it is only out of respect for the offense it may be to others. My 6 grandchildren are growing up in this world and I am heartsick when I see the loss of any moral compass by many of those we call entertainers. I love to laugh, dance, sing and joke around...it is possible to do without crossing lines of good taste or getting raunchy.

September 12, 2007 6:09 PM

While I do not personally find Kathy funny or entertaining, this issue has really fired me up! I am not a Christian and I do not believe in organized religion. But, I do have faith and I do have high morals. Did I find her speech lacking taste? Absolutely! But, on the flip side I find it offensive and lacking taste when people get up and tell us about how they thank God and Jesus and whoever in their speeches. Good for them...I don't want to hear...save it for church. So, when people like Kathy speak out about their beliefs just remember...what is good for the goose is good for the gander. You can't have it both ways. Or should I say, you shouldn't have it both ways.

I feel that religion is a personal freedom and a personal choice. Kathy definitely drew attention to herself with this little speech, but we are just giving her exactly what she wanted....attention. The Catholics are all up in arms, networks are censoring her, her name is all over the news, etc. If people want to take the power away from her...ignore the comments...let it go away.

With regards to Sheia's post, it is possible to have high morals and ethics without a belief in God. But, I do agree with you that there has come a point where nothing is off limits...but, it is sad to say, where do you draw the line?

I am so threw with the whole persona of ole Kathy, she has always teetered on the edge of civility, taste & moral overloads. This time she has gone far & beyond & I predict that the tide will turn not in her favor.many advertisers will pull out from her shows & viewers will diminish. Her ego has a cancerous edge. Kathy & Slyvia are a good match , which one will best the other out of a career 1st. I think Kathy is a tasteless brat seeking attention.I am sure she had a different tone about Jesus when she spent thousands of dollars on her total make over, which incidentally she is still has a face that you wouldn't want to put on your toilet seat. Some of her surgery a while back had started to go wrong ,and she wanted everyone to sympathize with her losing her sight.I bet she wasn't calling her publicist to be in the limelight when she thought she would be going blind. She probably called on God, the Father if not Jesus, the Son since she doesn't acknowledge either one. Kathy is a pathetic female who's approaching the downward spiral, and she will grab at anyone or anything to pulled herself up. Remember, she's a product of her environment-vanity and pride. She will hit rock-bottom both physically and mentally within the next 2 years. Good thing Jesus is forgiving, because she will need him.

I have never really been a kathy fan, however she has became increasingly more offensive, distasteful and that is with the understanding that, that is her "thing".I am all for freedom of speech and open opinion, however she doesn't even have a point she stands for nothing, respects nothing and anything she promotes or supports is party to being cast aside if it suits her that day(or minute). She makes fun of other people, including herself I admit, but I believe it is out of self-loathing.I hope that she has the response to this she deserves, namely shunning by all of the world and industry.

I think you all are missing the point. My reaction to Kathy Griffin's comments were that she was mocking NOT Jesus but those who worship these awards above all else...ESPECIALLY herself IF she were to take it all as seriously as others in the public eye do. Sure, we all like to 'win' and on the surface, her words may offend but she is a comedian whose job it is to not only point out other's foibles and weaknesses but her own. Do ANY of you actually think that KG was serious with the words she used or do you think that a stunned sarcasm was at play with a heavy dose of self-deprecation at having been awarded a statue when she is (supposedly) a "D-Lister?" She is brilliant, and if any of us were in the spotlight as much as she is I can guarantee that every one of us would inevitably end up saying or doing something that would offend someone even though that was never our intentions. Perhaps we shouldn't judge so harshly. Methinks someone else said that but likely put it far better than I do.

Uh oh, look out! We have on our hands a confident, bitingly funny nonconformist who can laugh at herself as well as others, yes her own fans included. She has so many more active brain cells at her dispossal than the ridiculous, self absorbed, flakey bits of fluff we seem to find appropriate for our young daughters to emmulate. BTW, I have my "gays", friends that call me a "breeder". It's not as big a deal as many of you are trying to make it. You folks seem to have way to much freetime and little tolerance. Go find a hobby, learn to laugh at yourself and others because laughter is healthy and good for you. It has been shown to release endorphins. It's okay, don't smile, your face will crack...

To truly know Jesus is to love Him and not assault anything about Him. I pity anyone who can stoop to such a level and expect us all to be o.k. with it. Freedom of speech has gotten a little too tolerant and way too out of control in this country. We live in an everything goes society and those with any moral, ethical or integral footing are best to stand up and say enough is enough.

Yes, why didn't Kathy attack Buddah, Muhammad or any other religion for that matter? Because all HELL would break lose that's why. Wake up America and take a look at what is really going on here. Some things just aren't funny....I will be praying for Kathy.

Why should we stand idly by when our best friend is cursed and berated? As Christians we have been silent too long. KG needs to know we are offended and do not appreciate her insults and degrading of our Lord and Savior. Other groups of people demand a public apology, why should we not do the same. The shock of a Christian demandng an apology would probably throw her into a tail spin trying to figure out what to say-that she would think people would laugh at. She may discover that the public is really tired of her brand of "humor."

"everything is permissable but not everything is beneficial..." it is very easy to not understand Jesus if you don't read the Bible with the heart that Jesus is the actual son of God. In our world, its comment for people to read the Bible without that heart. If Kathy Griffin believed that, I'm sure her comments would have been different. Let's not try to defend her. If you're a Christian, you're sad at the state of the world and here is just another example of that. Getting mad at her? Of course not. Would my first reaction be anger if I saw my sister unwhittingly step into the path of an on-coming tracker trailer? Of course not. If you believe in God and everything He is about then you realize that the stakes really are high when it comes to Him. Obviously she is not a Believer - shock and surprize? Why? I myself... am sad.

I am sure that when she made that speech she just thought she was so witty, but it really shows she didn't think at all before she spoke.

Oh come on people!
Please!
How easily offended we become in the name of religion!
Her comment was totally in the name of humour and disbelief - IN HERSELF - for having won the award in the first place, hence the "Hell has frozen over" comment, and then telling Jesus to "suck it" and move over since her "award is her God now" refers to all the people of the world who worship false idols in the name of God instead of looking directly into themselves to find the ONE AND ONLY!!!!!!!!
Jesus!
He gets her humour!
He was even trying to convinve EVERYONE of the power within and not without...
EVERYONE is a child of creation!
Jesus was ONE of God's children!
Although highly enlightened with a powerful message not to judge others...but to help heal ourselves and others with positive energy!
Look INSIDE yourself instead of outside!
Has anyone heard of IRONY???
The only thing that's been insulted and put to the test is your own insecurity about yourselves.
WAKE UP EVERYBODY AND STOP BEING SO EASILY JUDGEMENTAL TOWARDS OTHERS!
IS THIS NOT THE WAY?????????
GOD help us.

She was wrong to have said it...PERIOD. There is no excuse for it, so please stop looking for one. As Christians, we believe in forgiveness. She should apologize, and then use her life to show us that she MEANS IT!! ...and they'll know we are Christians by our love...

Rev. Voss, I think you have mistaken the identities of two women here. Kathy Griffin is a comedian, or at least she thinks she is. Kathie Lee Gifford is the wife of Frank Gifford and used to be on Live! with Regis Philbin in the mornings. She also sings and writes. I believe she is a deeply regligious person, a good soul. Kathy Gifford however, is just truly messed up. Two complete different people. OK?

Everyone may be a creation of God, but they don't all belong to God.Salvation begins by accepting Christ as saviour. To think, that being an athiest and mentioning hell tells me that she at least believes in hell,(somewhat) but not enough to accept Jesus as her saviour. She should not tempt the Lord, but don't we all? There is no excuse for what she said. Comedian or not. We all answer for our tounge when it gets out of control. God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins.

There IS NO WAY that comment could be considered 'funny'. It is beyond disgusting. Hopefully, other t.v. runs of this will be squashed, due to 'inappropriateness'.............no way could this be deemed appropriate, and it doesn't matter WHAT their occupation is.

I've enjoyed reading this blog all year as I've always been a Christian weary of being lumped with the fanatics and overly sensitive. So far I've had intelligent and liberal Christianity that I've been more than happy to read. However, this makes me weary. Come on, this is really nothing to get upset at it, and whether intentional or not, there seems to be a dig at gays that lays within. I'm a little disappointed.

Come on folks, I think we have reached a bit further along the line than the Old Testament. There are far more weighty subjects needing to be addressed other than some controversial lightweight speech by a COMEDIAN!! Extreme fundamentalism, no matter what faith you adhere to is abhorrent and far more offensive than any awards speech. Pause and look in the mirror before condemning others.

everything you are saying about kathy griffin is true. she is ego driven, offensive, disgusting, and attention hungry, and no one knows that better than she does. Sooooooo, by even acknowledging her acceptance speech, you are doing exactly what she wants. She's at home reading all of these comments by you overly sensitive bible beaters, counting her cash and saying "IT WORKED." She's a brilliant woman. Kathy, if you are reading this, "my gays" and I love you. Please never change, we've been waiting for you for far too long.

Truly there is a couple of points to be worried about. I am not a Christian, but am, more or less, a pagan... and what she said offended even me. The first part of what she said, "hell has frozen over..." doesn't matter... it is how she crudely and so wrongly attacked another faith. Atheism is one thing, insensitivity is another. Though she may be a comedian, her words will echo. People watch her (obviously) and when children see her, and when they mock her words, are they not going to get the same insensitivity as well???
Second point, the "this award is my God now" makes achievement more important than the journey. Admittedly, ambitious people help make this world go round, but when a child or teen sees that and later on, doesn't succeed at something, are they not going to be a bit harder on themselves? Even more important, when they do achieve, are they not going to be so egotistical and arrogant??? How are they to be able to be humble when someone who is well known gets away with such???

Apparently Kathy needs to go to Sunday School 101 to learn what happens to those who speak the way she has. Does she really think she will live forever. Or die into nothingness. I pray she does not. What a tragic loss for God to lose such a fun child.

kathy, i am very offended by what you did ,you have shown what kind of person your are,you should be very ashamed of yourself, you need attention but when you bring jesus into your little game you have crossed the line. you are a very arrogant and self centered person and do not care who you hurt in the process but your day will come when you will call on the name of jesus and when you do he might not be there for you unless you change your ways.i am so sorry for you i have seen your shoiws and i think you suck at itso that is why you will do just about anything to get attention .i hope that if your mother is still alive she does not have to hang her head in shame at the things you do. remember you will not live forever .you need some serious soul searching and lots of prayers. i pity you.

I myself am not Christian either. I was once Catholic and I do still believe in God maybe not the same one I used to but none the less I have faith. However I feel people are over reacting I don't think she sees an Emmy as her God, It was a joke. I don't think it was funny but then again I don't think anyone can be funny all the time. It was a bad joke and maybe even a stick it to you to "some" not all but "some" over bearing overly righteous Christians who try to push their beliefs on others.

I don't see how what she said was as bad as a lot of comedians that say really cruel things about people and God. Besides if you believe she meant it and you believe God is real then it was him she was talking to it's between them and thats something she would need to work out. However I don't think she believes in God (as that is what an Atheist is)so there for I think it was just a joke. Again not a funny one.

However a lot of comedians say bad things thats what they do. They make jokes at other people expense and if you have ever found her funny then you laughed at someone else's expense because she makes a living making fun of people. I Think making fun of someone who is alive is worse then making fun of a religion or a God because face it God can take care of himself he is not emotionally weak like humans and has been around long enough not to be hurt by what people say more then what is in there hearts.

If your Christian then you must consider nothing she can say can hurt him more then her not believing in him and if your not Christian you should know what it is like to be judged for your beliefs and so there for should not jump all over some who is not or is Christian. Thats the one great thing about this Country we can say what ever we want, we have that right.

So even though she has said worse then this no one will stop her from saying what she wants and unless it directly hurts the life of a person who is living today no one she be allowed to stop her. After all if non Christians can't say things about a The Christian God then When Christians going to stop verbally attacking non Christians. When will they stop saying we are all going to hell and preaching that we worship the devil (I don't even believe in hi let alone worship him). The thing is that the field is not even. We can't say things and still be politically correct and Christians can. Life is not politically correct life is real and people ALL people have the right to believe what ever they want. This is America after all.

This is my opinion and like I said you don't have to agree with me but just think about what I had to say.

*sigh*

Do you really think she's going to put that statue on an altar and burn incense to it?

Whether or not it was funny (some think so, others don't), it WAS a joke. She is not going to start worshipping the Emmy statue. Sheesh.

And it was a commentary (ironic, given the name of this blog) on all those people who go up and end with a rote (the wording is often identical) 'props to God/Jesus' for getting the award. Often for awards given for material that I doubt that God or Jesus want credit for.

Kathy Griffin is perect example of stupidity substituting for comedy. It's a shame that someone so untalented can become infamous for remarks that aren't funny but just offensive. A better venue for her should be the "Jackass" show where someone like her can just be herself.

May God have mercy on her soul. She will think long and hard what she said, when she dies and wakes up in HELL. And to burn forever. Wow that scares me. I will pray for you. Such a dangerous statememt to say. I would be afraid if I were her. God bless you Kathy.

Sonya Schutt

Corinne, Karen and anyone else who believes "it was just a joke" that Kathy Griffin told JESUS to "suck it", are in denial about how very many people were offended by it and would not put up with her saying that to mohammad or budda or another religion's main person. If someone said something about a "fagot" or "queer", she would have a cow.

But we Christians must realize that we are the ONLY group left in America that can be discriminated against and lam blasted this way and the left, liberal people just pooh, pooh us. We must forgive her, but we must not allow this sort of HATE TALK to come out of her's or anyone else's mouth. I know, I know, freedom of speech. Well, that only goes so far, such as, you can't yell FIRE in a crowded theater, etc.

Kathy, I pray that you will see the error of your ways and speech and apologize, as you should and would, to any other group you offended. Mel Gibson does a perfectly TRUE depiction of the life of Christ and all of Hollywood is up in arms. Well, they need to be up in arms now because this will bring a lot of ire down on the industry and I am sure many programs will lose some sponsorship, especially Kathy's so-called comedy show.

Sad that someone like Kathy can say all this junky stuff in public
but we Christians are censured so often for our beliefs. I pray
that I never become as unspiritual as Kathy. What an awful thing to say about Jesus my savior. She will probably wind up like Madeline O'Hara after O"hara was instrumental in getting prayer taken out of
our schools. Since then we've had Colombine and more school shooting than I care to count. Why, people like Kathy. We Christians are the
one group in America discriminated against all the time.

I think Kathy Griffin has no respect for herself, let alone others, or she wouldn't "spit out" the venom she does. I'm SO glad that Barbara Walters didn't choose her to be the permanent host on "The View"; if she had, I wouldn't have watched it anymore. Her so-called "jokes" are outrageous and offensive and I feel sorry for her that she grew up with parents who taught her to be this way (as she admitted on Larry King's show recently). I'm also very offended that she talked about Jesus the way she did in her Emmy acceptance speech and am happy that her speech has been censored. It's totally unacceptable! It IS sad, indeed, that we Christians are discriminated against but I'm very proud to BE one! So many in Hollywood have "gone over the top" and they seem to have little or no respect for those who don't appreciate all their "garbage".

Jon Anderson
September 16, 2007 3:22 PM

I don't get it. This woman gets paid to be outrageous, right? So this comment is outrageous. Comedians use irony, sarcasm, etc. The apparent fact that this statement ruffles so many feathers reveals more to me about everybody OTHER than her, especially those who are upset by her. It also demonstrates she's in tune to who in our culture is least likely to laugh at themselves. Christian Americans are definitely like that. I'm grateful she has put her finger into that hot spot. Christian America has quite a lot of growing up to do.

Bottom line is this, she will stand on the Great White throne judgement as well as every sinner, does not matter if you are aithiest or not, whether you beleive or not, God is real, Jesus is the advocate for those who have repented, worship any idol you want, but it is your choice and on judgement day ignorance will not be an accepted excuse!

Corinne
September 17, 2007 5:21 AM

I am sorry but do you really think that Christians don't get away with things. I am a Pagan "GAY" myself and last time I checked it was Christians holding me back from getting married. Also Christians are not the only ones to be discriminated against.

There are a lot of people from different races or religions that get BS from people all the time. And yes if you said something about a gay person you would get a lot a crap for it (I hope) Because it was a direct slam to a person. For something they had NO choice in. However if you want to think bad about me for my beliefs fine thats your right.

Even when I was a Catholic I hated the way Christian ruled or tried to rule everything. The country is supposed to be founded on freedom of beliefs, but hey burn me at the steak for that I am a witch after all. I must be evil then.

I think that Christians are just afraid because they are starting to lose there hold on the country and the rest of us a sick of sitting quietly in the corner of the world being hidden and disregarded. I mean what made us think we have the same rights they do. They where4 given those rights by there God.

well thats not true we have rights too and we wont just sit back and let you give us crap without fighting back...and thats what she was doing. Saying guess what I have a right to say I don't like you God just as much as you have a right to say you do. I think her joke was not funny....but it was important. After all we need people in this world to fight with us. I think thats what Christians are so afraid of.

Us non Christian "gays" actually being allowed to speak.

If the pious Christians can't take a joke, don't watch a comic who makes jokes that they can't laugh at! It is called humor for a reason, and shouldn't be censored by any religious self-rightous group of people, who need to get a life!

I just would like to know for all of you atheists how can you believe the world and all things included just happened years ago from nothing. Last time I took math and science, zero plus zero still equaled zero. I know you believe the concept of God is ridiculous, but come on now, how much more ridiculous is your belief. I am not the most intelligent person in the world but I am smart enough to know that you cannot take nothing and get something. So I am going to believe in a God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit and someday when I am in Heaven I will feel sorry for all of you who did not want to believe that someone created all of this. My story is more believable than yours. I have a wonderful life,I enjoy my family, my friends, and God. My prayer is that everyone would believe and accept salvation.

Not to worry about me and my not getting to a heaven I don't believe in.

Big Bag theory works for me as to earth's formation as well as evolution in the formation of humans. I can live with starting in the ocean and working my (our) way to the top of the food chain through little creatures and apes etc. Much scientific evidence for all that...I'll go with the science, not an invisible being that demands attention and watches everyone.

BTW, what am I supposed to be saved from, if I accepted Salvation?

Started out in a Christian home and at 17 decided fairy tales weren't for me. That was over 40 years ago. I'm fine and so are the thousands who are non-believers.

Kathy Griffin is just another in a long line who feel that attacking Jesus Christ will gain her brownie points in Hollywood. Those of us who love The Lord realise that if only she knew the Love of God through repentance of sin and turning TO Jesus, how wonderful her life would be. Her words do nothing except condemn her soul further.
