America's Second Black President? Barack Obama Follows President Palmer's Path
Young, bright-eyed, handsome and charismatic to the core; an optimist and a visionary with a profound ability to evoke a deeply rooted, and perhaps dormant, sense of populism in the hearts and minds of Americans. Yes, it has hardly gone...
John you hit the nail on the head, as usual, and in your fantastically witty writing style too. However, long ago I predicted that we would first see a black male president before a female president. How did I know? All based on who obtained the right to vote first. Also, Obama wasn't the first African-American considered for president (remember Colin Powell?) but he is certainly the first who looks like he's going to win it. Is it because of David Palmer? Perhaps. Let's hope he does as great a job as Palmer did, and doesn't share the same fate.
Right, yeah....I sort of specifically avoided talking about the Palmer assasination, but I nearly did mention it, if only to drive home the point of how popular Palmer was among viewers and how saddened and shocked they were when that happened. And also that maybe there's a little bit of the Wayne Palmer edginess in Obama. Maybe.
This also suggests that We Liberals shouldn't dismiss "24", and put an indelible "bad thing" label on it, just because of the torture thing. It brings good along with its bad.
everyone call obama african american? i understand he is from a middle easter family and muslim, how is he african?
angel, obama is neither middle eastern nor muslim. his father is Kenyan and his mother American. he is also a Christian. in fact, with one African parent and one American parent, obama might be one of a handful of people who actually legitimately qualify as directly "african-american".
John I was glad to hear that you wrote this because I had been thinking exactly the same thing: Obama would have had a much more difficult time had this show not already presented a legitimate black president. I also worry about an assassination attempt and only hope that those who dislike him will "destroy" him better by letting him make mistakes and be criticised. If they do something drastic like that, all they will do is make him a martyr. What an incredible thing happened in our country yesterday! Once again we are an example to the whole world.
