With only one original episode left, it might be a little late for me to say that “Friday Night Lights” has finally returned to at least a semblence of its former greatness. Now that Landry/Tyra murder storyline is finally over, the show has slowly attempted to return what made it great to begin with: stories centered around the daily choices we have to do the right thing. In recent weeks, Coach Taylor had to turn the other cheek, repeatedly, when another coach made his life particularly difficult. Smash had to decide what to do when he goes on a date with a white girl and realized racism isn’t exactly dead in DIllon. Riggins did the right thing when he took Julie home after she got drunk at a party, but he found himself in trouble anyway.
“FNL” has also returned to the other theme which I have always said makes the show special: the examination of an entire generation of fatherless teens trying to raise themselves. The audience sees this with Buddy Garrity adopting a teenage boy fresh out of jail, with the relationship between Riggins and Coach Taylor, and even in the relationship between Smash and his mom.
Though there are still some missteps — Lila turned Christian d.j. on last Friday’s episode is a great example– it is clear that the Dillon Panthers are returning to winning form. Too bad the Writers’ strike may be the latest reason this series won’t have another championship season.

Jessica is absolutely correct. Three new episodes left. Save this series, NBC. Heck, even Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton can’t be costing NBC too much for a Friday night show.

Please keep this show which beats the Reality Shows by a hundred miles. The characters are believeable and true to form. The actors are fresh and doing a great job in their parts. Yeah Lila is getting a bit too sugary-sweet to be real but her turn to Christianity is for real and it is interesting to watch how she interacts with the other characters. But please keep the focus on the Dillion Panthers football team and players. There has been way too much attention paid on new baby and mommy dilemma and not enough focus on the school and the football players. Sure the coach has a personal situation but it should not take up so much of the program’s hours… and it makes him seem like an ungrateful person when all he is doing is trying to keep food on the table and a roof over their heads and allow his simpering wife “her fair deal”. Sorry but she knew what she was getting when she married the guy. So keep this show on the air even if you have to have re-runs.

Save Friday Night Lights. It’s a must see at our house. The network would really be shooting themselves in the foot if they dumped this one.
Reality shows, by contrast, are old news. We get a major dose of reality every day around here with $3+ gas, higher grocery store prices, and in some places, getting caught in the cross fire between drug gangs and car jackers. We get enough “reality” in our daily lives. Who needs to turn on the TV and get more? If that’s all there is, we shut the TV off and find other entertainment.
We need more entertainment like Friday Night Lights where there is some morality in our coaches and teachers, people try to help each other and we feel that we are seeing more of small town America.
