“Muslim Girl” magazine is celebrating its one year anniversary. Like any other magazine for teen girls, fashion, makeup, television, movies, and music all feature prominently, not to mention advice on dating and boys. Though the magazine does have some content that is not common to teen girl magazines, including monthly articles on issues facing Muslim countries, profiles of Muslim role models, and tips about making sure your cell phone doesn’t go off during prayer (you don’t want to embarrass yourself).
Part of the magazine’s point is to show Muslim girls how they don’t have to choose between being a girl and God, says the magazine’s editor in chief, Ausma Khan.
Though it’s ruffled some feathers (some groups think its too westernized), Khan is excited about the magazine’s success and its future. If this magazine just teaches these “girls” to raise their children to NOT kill non-Muslims, the magazine will be a complete success.

Wonderful!
I am so happy to see that we have a Westernized Muslim magazine for girls. We want our girls to be proud and happy to be Muslim and not to have ancient culturized beliefs overshadow the real meaning of the Q’uran and its message(s).
Too much Westernization is not good for a Muslim girl nor is too much radicalism from cultures where (Islam is being used as a stepping stone to impose out-dated and dangerous traditions and cultural norms.) If Muslim American girls are not allowed to blossom into healthy women because of mystical and traditional beliefs not solidly based on Islam, then we are suppressing their dreams.

Wow i love this magazine. Im Muslim and I find it amazing that they made it! I wish I could subscribe too! Im glad they made the digital edition too!

People are incredibly prejudiced against and ill-informed about islamic values and beliefs. Just read some of the other comments! As a muslim woman I constantly face this nonsense discrimination! We are a peace loving people who value PEOPLE, whatever the religion. Unlike christianity, it is noT our objective to convert anyone to our faith! Just read the Quran which says this numerous times!! The fact that this magazine exists will probably be more beneficial for non-muslims, just so that they begin to see us as a legitimate part of the human family.
