The new Andrew Morton book about Tom Cruise has mostly gotten attention for its controversial claims about Cruise's Scientologist beliefs. However, the book also sheds light on the beliefs of Cruise's ex-wife, actress Nicole Kidman.
The book alleges that when the Church of Scientology first courted the couple, they sensed that Kidman would be "a problem" due to her deep connection to Catholicism and her interest in her father's profession, psychiatry (Scientology is outspoken in its refusal to accept psychiatry).
It seems that Kidman's Catholic beliefs are steadfast. She and current husband Keith Urban were wed in a traditional Catholic ceremony in their native Australia, and it has been reported that the star, who is now pregnant, plans to raise her child in the Catholic faith. Most interesting of all, Morton's book claims that Kidman was so distraught after her divorce from Cruise that she considered becoming a nun. She allegedly looked into convents in Australia that would accept women who had been married. In the past few centuries, it was common for women to enter convents after becoming widowed, and in a way Kidman becoming a nun could have tied into this practice.
Alas, Sister Nicole was not to be--but the acting world is more than happy to have her.

If someone was once married and chooses to give their whole heart to the LORD in complete service to HIM, helping others unselfishly, WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAH?!!! I think that is a personal choice between the LORD and the person considering full service to the LORD, Not a judgement for someone who is NOT GOD! I know GOD will Never die and abdocate HIS Throan to you or anyone else. HE is the ONLY ONE Who Is PERFECT!
I think Nicole Kidman got out at just the right time. It's pretty clear to me that dear old Tom was looking for a girl he could win over and control all at the same time. I am very much afraid for Katie Holmes in all of this. If she can make a lifetime commitment willingly to Tom than more power to both of them. But I can't help but be concerned every time I see a picture of Kate on Tom's arm. Many times she looks just like a manequin. In any case, Tom must have some affection for Catholics both Nicole and Kate are Catholic. I hope renouncing Catholocism for Tom Cruise is worth the price.
Well actually as far as the catholic church is concerned she was never married to Tom since they were not married in a catholic church or ever had their marriage blessed by the catholic church, so in her case the divorce thing would not be a factor.
what is nicole kidmans mothers name???
wright12901,
Actually, the Catholic Church recognizes marriages performed in all religious and secular traditions (as long as they are not forced or something else is amiss), so divorce COULD (I did not say WOULD) be an issue. I don't know the situation surrounding her and Keith Urban's marriage, but if they indeed did wed at a Catholic church in communion with the Vatican, she first would have had to get an annulment. These means her first marriage to Tom would have been declared invalid -- as if it had never happened.
Technically, the problem is getting married to someone, sleeping with them (the two become one in the sight of God), getting a divorce, and then becoming one with someone else either through marriage/consummation or fornication.
Rumors abound that Tom is gay and that he and Nicole never consummated their marriage (ever wondered why they adopted kids? Not to be crass, but if she wasn't getting any, she probably didn't see celibacy as a major hurdle to becoming a nun...) If that is indeed the case (no sex between Tom and Nicole), then an annulment would have been very easy for her to get as she was never in a valid marriage.
That said, all this is speculation and I think we should leave this all to the parties involved and their God.
