Miley Thanks Jesus at Kids' Choice Awards

Monday March 31, 2008

Categories: Celebrities
Up until recently, teen queen Miley Cyrus has let her Christian faith be more implied than overtly stated. But recent red carpet appearances—not to mention her interview with Barbara Walters—have found Miley giving more and more sound bytes about Jesus....

I personally found the thanks to her "Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" a little cheesy. It's a similar feeling the same way when a football player executes a good tackle, then kneels and crosses himself. Miley furtheer hinted in an interview unrelated to the Nick Awards that Britney Spears's problems may have stemmed from not being brought up in a "Christian household". Ick, already.

Imagine the uproar if a Muslim winner (should we evolve to the point where there was one) thanked Allah in the same manner as Miley thanked Jesus. I bet more than a few eyebrows would be raised.

"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity." 1 Timothy 4:12

I'd say if she planned it, it was a bold confession that she knows could and will be criticized and made fun of by some.

If it was just a spontaneous, from the heart thank you, then it speaks of her beliefs. Either way, I'm glad she did it. I pray she keeps her values and convictions as she grows up in Hollywood.

I am happy to see that she is being open to whomever she choose's to thank ! to me alot of our childrens problems in life are due to lack of faith, positive role models familys not showing their kids a faithful, loving, basis & having the plegde taken out of school etc But.... its On "our money & in the corrupt court system's though" !! you can go to a fastfood place and hear kids swearing using the Lords name, and worse but No adults in their presence are asking them to clean up their "use of god's name "in that text so maybe more kids and role models need to express their beliefs and faith's expresion postively! have ya seen how fast something or someone negative can catch on? well time for not worrying about being "politically correct" on this statement & giving thanks!! Dont stop believing is the way I look at it and I will say my thanks daily and out loud if I choose to!

I feel strongly that our children need more postive,up lifting role model's ! children learn what they live... time for parents to get more, love ,faith, and dont worry about something always being politically correct as long as it is not racist & hurtful! when's the last time you seen/heard of some parents reading to their kids, saying nitely prayers, saying a thankful blessing when eating a meal? time to slow down in life and be thankful & spend quality time and "showing your children to love, respect and to balance ,treasure themselves & others and to pay it forward in life " !!

I watched the awards with my granddaughters 8 and 14 and also my 78 year old active dad. I must admit I was stunned by her comments about Jesus just because most young people in her position wouldn't think it was cool to say things like that out loud and in public. I am proud of her for stong belief. America was founded on freedom of all kinds. So who ever you believe in be strong and honest just true to yourself. I hope Miley makes it all the way and never loses her faith for any reason. It is sad to see many of our young stars have fallen and found themselves in pitiful messes. Perhaps if they had looked upward and not around themselves for more to believe in they wouldn't be where they are now. Hats off to Miley's parents and teachers. she should grow up to be a strong sel assured independent woman even with Hollywood beating down her door.

"(Though it is my personal opinion if Jesus was at the awards show in person, he would enjoy being slimed.)."

Interesting thought. I think you are right.

And Miley probably wouldn't mind either.

God Bless Miley Cyrus! Well - He already has! ;-) I just hope Miley maintains her faith & values once she turns 18. She is a wonderful role model, and I hope she keeps her "down to earth" personality and keeps giving God the glory well into adulthood! Hollywood / the media may not care for that sort of thing, but so what? Look where the "It's all about ME" attitude has gotten people like Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Jamie Lynn Spears, etc, etc. I may not care for Billy Ray as a singer, but he's obviously a wonderful father and Miley's mother is awesome too!

I'm so sad for this world. I guess when a young star claims the name of Jesus Christ, I expect Osmond type behavior. She doesn't need to dress or pose like any of that.

My 11 year old is heartbroken. We were discussing how my favorites and her favorites were both "clean, straight, Christian" stars. (Okay, opinions on LDS aside) But, Miley...pray for her.

I was very excited to hear Miley thank Jesus!
We have to remember she is only 15 and is growing up in public. If any of our lives were tracked like hers I'm sure it wouldn't take more than a day for something we do or say to be zeroed in on by the press. Can you imagine having to monitor every word that comes out of your mouth and come up with something that nobody will shake their finger at when you are questioned on the spot with cameras in your face?

She is still a child and learning good judgment the hard way and fast!

She is a leader at age 15 and is doing an amazing job but of course she is going to mess up now and then and we need to just pray for her to grow in wisdom and in faith in the Lord. God has placed her in this position and she needs our prayers. I think she is so wonderfully talented and good hearted. God bless her!

I have never met Miley Cyrus but she sounds like a great girl and I like knowing that she is a christian.
