Paris Hilton, Role Model?

paris-released_idol.jpgWe've called Paris Hilton many things here at "Idol Chatter," but I'm not certain anyone has dubbed her a role model. But that's exactly how the hotel heiress sees herself, according to Reuters (via TMZ.com).

"I work very hard and I've built this empire on my own," she recently told the news agency while judging a beauty pageant in Turkey. "I think this is an inspiration for a lot of girls out there."

Putting aside the fact that she really doesn't need to work to put food on the table, I would agree that Hilton has worked very hard to create an empire from nothing, perpetrating the Paris character on the public in such a way that she has gained some legitimacy as a businesswoman. Her perfume is a top-seller and she just released a shoe collection and hair extension line. Her self-promotion saavvy is second to none.

On the other hand, what kind of an inspiration is she really to young girls, having at least one sex tape under her belt and a short jail sentence? While scandal and jailtime seem to be de rigueur amongst young Hollywood right now, having a sex tape and a catch phrase--"That's Hot!"--are not exactly things I would want my teen relatives to aspire to.

What are your thoughts on Paris Hitlon as role model--Hot or Not?

I feel that Paris has certainly made some mistakes but being lazy is not one of them. Where other super rich girls simply live off the family fortune, Paris is out there working. She acts, sings, has a perfume line make public appearences and does TV. Sure she plays a role of a sexpot but it is basically in good fun. Didn't Marliyn Monroe, Dagmar, Jayne Mansfield and others do similiar personas?

We don't put Tina Louise down for playing Ginger on Gilligan's Island. There are many gals in Hollywood who have bigger problems that Paris. The problem that comes into play with them is DRUGS. This is something that to date has not come into play with Paris.

In closing, can Paris improve...sure. Has she done a great deal of possitive...more tyhan many.

What IS a role model in this day and time? The tabloids extoll Paris, Britney and Lindsay, but what FOR? To watch a train wreck is just about as exciting as watching these spoiled rotten women dance on table tops and sell their sex for money (isn't that called prostitution?).

If I had a daughter, I would NOT want her to emulate Paris Hilton. With all her money, she lacks character. The next party is ALL she has to live for. I don't believe her singing career, her perfume line, or her hair extensions will last long after she is gone. Icons like Marilyn Monroe, Dagmar, etc., ARE remembered, primarily because of their ideals, romance, and personalities.

The world will keep turning with or without Ms. Hilton. If she decides to use her wealth for GOOD instead of Jimmy Choos or Diane Von Furstenburg, then she COULD become a viable role model for this vapid generation.

What was it someone once said "bad press is better than no press". I suppose that Paris had rather be talked about and noticed no matter what the paper says. How sad. I do not think she is role model. I think she is a sad little lost girl hiding herself away. The really sad part is what the young girls of today see her as. Perhaps wild free or rich who knows. I would definately not want my child or grandchild acting as she does.

Paris Hilton is not a role model , but I believe she is a good person that has many people take advantage of her.
