Will Smith: Still Not a Scientologist

posted by Kris Rasmussen | 11:42am Wednesday March 19, 2008

willsmithpic.jpgIt seems more and more of the media are no longer afraid to take shots at Scientology and the celebs who may or may not be a part of their flock. The latest expose of the cult–and it seems like there is one every week now–will hit newsstands next week as Radar magazine makes the allegations that Scientology is targeting African-American celebrities such as Will Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith.

Will Smith continues to deny the rumors that due to his close relationship with Tom Cruise he is becoming more interested in Scientology. He argues that one doesn’t have to be a Jew to “be a friend of Steven Spielberg’s” and that he still is a Christian. In fact, he has said this numerous times in several interviews, as if he’s worried someone might not believe him.
While reading up on all the religions–something Smith has claimed to do–he might also want to hone up on his Shakespeare because me thinks perhaps the movie star doth protest a little too much.

Once the Christian lifestyle is displayed one would not have to proclaim they are a Christian. It would be seen in attitude to God, family and others and it would be heard in the speech, lifting up the name of Jesus even as Jesus lifted up the name of His Father.

Why should anyone have to defend their beliefs…He has to choose his path…it does not affect us…Who cares…We should care that he is talented, he’s a good person, and he does what he feels is right…

I agree Will Smith doesn’t have to proclaim his Christianty to anyone. He proclaims it in the choice of movies he agrees to make each year bringing his beliefs to the “Big Screen”. What a wonderful Christian!

What the heck difference does it make what religion Will, or anyone else, is? He’s an actor for Pete’s sake. Just for argument’s sake, I’m a Catholic that hasn’t seen the inside of a church in years for personal reasons so is someone going to chastise me for my personal choices? I’m more intersted in the movies Will makes than the personal choices he makes such as his choice of religion. I follow certain musicians too and can’t stand it when I go on a forum and find a million people questioning their choice of companions, sesual orientation, religion, etcetera. These folks chose a profession that is intended to entertain us not incite rumors of their personal lives. Enough said.

But Scientology takes that freedom away from you because they keep members in the cult through coercion and intimidation. Constitutional freedoms are not (or should not be) preserved at the expense of people’s other rights, such as the right to freedom, dignity and happiness.

Cult? (NOT)
What does the word Scientology mean?
It means knowing how to know. Scientology, however, is defined as the study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, universes and other life.
People pass it along to others, the press feels betrayed. “Nobody should believe anything they don’t read in the papers. How dare word of mouth exist!” So, to try to stop people from listening, the Chaos Merchant has to use words like cult. That’s “a closed group,” whereas Scientology is the most open group on Earth to anyone. And they have to attack organizations and their people to try to keep people out of Scientology.

What is Scientology about?
Developed by L. Ron Hubbard, Scientology is a religion that offers a precise path leading to a complete and certain understanding of one’s true spiritual nature and of one’s relationship with self, family, groups, mankind, all life forms, the material universe, the spiritual universe and the Supreme Being, or infinity.
Scientology addresses the spirit — not simply the body or mind — and believes that man is far more than a product of his environment, or his genes.
Scientology comprises a body of knowledge which extends from certain fundamental truths. Prime among these are:
Man is an immortal spiritual being.
His experience extends well beyond a single lifetime.
His capabilities are unlimited, even if not presently realized.
Scientology further holds man to be basically good, and that his spiritual salvation depends upon himself and his fellows and his attainment of brotherhood with the universe.
Scientology is not a dogmatic religion in which one is asked to believe anything on faith. An individual discovers for himself that Scientology works by applying its principles and observing or experiencing the results.
The ultimate goal of Scientology is true spiritual enlightenment and freedom for the individual.

your plans and stopping you from being who you want to be, you were right.”

I’m with the first comment 100%…”what the heck difference does it make” !!!!! Personally, I could care less about anyone’s religion, sexual preference, skin color, race…..religion and sexual preference should be a personal and private matter….skin and race, well, that’s just an outer shell.

Yes, Man is a spiritual being.
But he needs a relationship with his spiritual creator. Without that relationship he will never find his true meaning or purpose in life.
No, man is not basicaly good. Anyone can see that. Look around you, read the news.
Man is a sinner and he can not save himself.
Yes, man is an immortal being.
But if he does not personally know the one true God and accept his son, our savior and Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior, he will not spend eternity in Heaven. And his “immortal” soul with burn in a place called Hell.
Yes it is a “cult” and a very dangerous one…..

Will is NOT “protesting too much” in defending himself. He has fallen into the same trap that Obama is having to deal with. Both Will and Obama are Christian in their tradition, but have been accused of secretly being something else. In Obama’s case, he’s being accused as a Muslim by insipid and recirculating emails. The media has questioned whether Will is a Scientologist just because he made one positive comment about it.
All this false-labeling and mis-attributing is just an attempt at sensationalization at the cost of the truth. I’m tired of it.

Christianity is persecuted just as much as Scientology. I don’t think someone would denounce Scientology to claim Christianity for no reason. The Shakespeare comment is pretty stupid. If people keep asking you the same question, you keep giving the same answer.

I was wondering if “Marie | March 21, 2008″, and maybe others who post messages, realize how distracting and hard-to-read their comments are when they are not punctuated. Capitalization at the beginning of sentences would help, too. I know I’m a bit old-fashioned, but it would be nice if good comments were organized intelligently.
On another topic (I just had to get this off my chest.): Sorry if I offend text messagers, too, but it irks me that nowadays no one knows how to spell. It really shows in the schools and business world, as well. No wonder the rest of the world thinks Americans are stupid!!! PLEASE proofread what you write before you send it, and don’t depend on “Spell check” — it doesn’t catch everything!!
