There's an interesting discussion going on in the Beliefnet community that ties to a movie I admit I haven't seen, "The Bucket List." The idea is to challenge yourself to think about what is on your own personal "bucket list." What are the things you would most like to accomplish before you die?
I've been doing some thinking about my own bucket list and decided to post a few items here. You can check out what others are saying and join the community to post your own list. I am hoping by posting my list here it will motivate me more to accomplish what's on it!
Before I kick the bucket I'd like to:
1. Travel to all fifty states. I am probably two-thirds of the way there, so this one is doable!
2. Finish any one of my half-written novels. I am thinking that this year may actually be the year I cross this goal off the list. Also finishing one of my half-written plays would also be nice.
3. Go to a James Taylor concert. Okay I know, this doesn't seem like it should be a big deal to accomplish this task, but let me explain. I have had tickets to see the man more than once. Try several times, in fact. Each and every time the concert day came, the entire universe has conspired against me and I never made it to the concert. I have no idea what God has against me seeing one of the great songwriters of any generation, but I am not giving up trying.
4. Buy a second home in New York City. Okay, crossing this wish off the list will require me somehow winning the Lotto, but you just never know. Right?
5. Head back to the misson field for a period of time. I served five memorable years with Youth With A Mission and one day it would be good to return for awhile to serve in another country.
6. Reconcile with certain family members. By far the most touching stories I read on the message boards were the ones from those who have been separated or lost contact with family for various reasons. I, too, find that my biggest wish is a reunion with family members who have become disconnected from me. It's not completely within my control too cross this goal off the list, but I'd like to believe there is always hope.

My wish for you is to accomplish all of your wishes and hopes on your "Bucket List". Who knows why things happen in our lifes? May all of your personal hopes and desires come true!
Good luck, my friend. Keep the faith and you shall accomplish what you REALLY WANT TO ACCOMPLISH even if it takes on a different spin to do it. I've thought about a "bucket list" many times. I have MS (multiple schlerosis)and know it can only get worse, so I'm doing everything in MY POWER to stay positive and centered on my journey. I have that "don't tell me I can't do it, 'cause I will just to piss you off" mind set. I will say one thing, FAITH, (whatever one you choose) makes the biggest difference in all we do. I'm a lover of life and appreciate all that's been given to me and will continue to give back in any way I can.
Oh, Barb, things happen in our lives for a reason...we just don't always know what it is!!!:)
Seeing all 50 states is at the top of my list too, along with writing about the 10 Commandments as they apply in current times. But that's as far as I've gotten with a list. You might want to check nanowrimo.org, the website for National Novel Writing Month, that I just discovered this week. Doesn't happen until November and it sure sounds like a fun event. Hope you make it to your concert, too - I have the same trouble with Elton John! I'll do some serious thinking about my 'Bucket List', I always get more interested in what everybody else is doing & forget to come up with mine. But it was fun to see that someone else had the 50 states on his/hers!
I go along with your number six. It is painful to know you can't accomplish your highest wish of all about family members. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. I only pray that God's love thru me love my sisters while I'm still alive. Thank you for sharing.
I believe many of us have some of the same on our 'list', however most important is to not waste time being bitter, have unrest, arguing with others, or grunging about what might have been. Instead, enjoy life to its fullest every day we're given, relax, be peaceful within ourselves, appreciate the God given world of nature, study, love others and do what we're able to prepare for the fact that we never know who may leave us next or how many more seasons we have ourselves on this earth. If we could convince the real young of the temporary life we live here in this body, maybe there'd be less trouble in schools, or on the highways, less need for large prisons and more chance for future peace. Does anyone ever wonder what heaven's like???
