Sarah Palin: Our Culture's Newest Star

Thursday September 4, 2008

Hell hath no fury like the media scorned. And their all-out attack on the woman who could be the new feminist icon for a new generation of young women needs to stop. Or, there just need to be some other...

This is a preposterous article. The woman could not be any less humble. She is hugely ambitious, and used her time onstage to brag about herself and belittle her opponent in a very un-Christian way. She was vindictive, and the entire point of her speech was to divide. To be divisive.

The point of her being nominated was for she and John McCain to manipulate Christians into voting for her, not because she espoused real Christian values but because of identity politics. She thinks if she identifies herself as a Christian it'll be enough for us to vote for her. Shame on her. And shame on you for being so easily manipulated. It's time to demand more than that from our politicians.

Not only that but she was dishonest in her facts! Seriously, check out the Associated Press's fact-check of her speech.

Ok put down the kool - aid and lets look at Gov. Palin without the rosy colored glasses.

1. She is not qualified. Two years as Gov. do not equal enough experience to be VP. Her record as Gov. is far from being a shining example of a "maverick" or a "reformer".

2. No, she is not a movie/rock/tv star. Its much worse - she is a "Barbie" (of the caribou variety) and her role is to draw attention from McCain's weak spots ( lukewarm family values, boring personality, ect.)and bait for the far - right. What is most distrubing is that she was picked over numerous other women who have the experience as well as the social conservative credentials.

3. All of the hoopla about her being a "mom" is pointless - every other woman is also a mother with the same challenges and issues.

4. As for her daughter marrying the father of her baby, I'll refer to something that my Granny used to say "if you were't smart enough to not get knocked up how in the hell do you propose to make a marriage work" What does her daughter getting knocked up have to do with being qualified to be VP.

5. How sad it is that anyone would want teen girls look up to a stranger as a role model. We have only heard the spin about Gov. Palin and really don't know much about her just her circumstances.

I believe that Gov. Palin was picked because she is young, attractive, a social conservative ( to shore up his base ), little experience ( McCain is not going to let her be the next "Cheney" ), and she has a Downs Syndrome baby. She was picked as nothing more than window dressing.

Be realistic. The media will not stop its attack on her until they find something in her background that will put her into a federal prison.

It never cease to amaze me how shallow our society has become, i.e., regarding an unknown female. Duh! First and foremost, the votes are not in because Alaska is a huge state and some of the dogs never arrived. How is it Obama lack skills, yet he's accomplished so much. Sarah is an unknown but has been excalated to the top by the flick of a switch, and can run the United States in case of John McCain demise. Come on people -- get real!!! What an insult to the RNP.

The reality is that she is being subjected to the same scrutiny as any body else. They are digging through her record (what little there is ) and they are responding to what the Republicans have offered up.

What is funny is how the Republicans are now screaming sexism if anyone points out her lack of experience - especially since they had no problem trashing Democratic women on the same issue.

As for her family, the Republicans keep dragging them on stage and touting Gov. Palin more as a " hot mom" (especially one with a Downs Syndrome baby and a knocked up daughter) than a Gov. albeit one with very little experience.

Can you imagine touting McCain as a "grandpa" and drag out his grandkids while he talks about how his sons were "randy" as teenagers. Talk about hypocrisy.

Sound like most of you are in denial. There are elected officials that have gotten away with far more than Palin is being accused of. Do a little digging on some of the more "popular" officials.

Very few of our officials have a spotless record, yet, they were voted in office. This woman has a record of turning things around and standing up for what she believes is right.

I admire her for standing up for her daughter. And yes, my marriage has worked for 38 years after marrying when I was four months pregnant and we are happy, with 2 successful adult children, and 8 grandchildren. There are a LOT of successful marriages that came about because the couple chose to wed instead of having an abortion.

Pray for our country every Thursday at noon, that we will elect the Christian conservative candidate, joining the thousands of christians across our country that will be in prayer at the same time.

I am really tired of those who call themselves followers of Christ and support politics that call for killing other people in the name of God.
There are Iraqi Christians praying for the same thing that we are praying for -- victory.

Someone says, "The media is attacking her" and that becomes conventional wisdom. She's a mom; I'm a dad. Congrats to both of us but this particular skill has nothing to do with being VP. Executive experience? Puts her ahead of all three pres/vp candidates- should she head the ticket? The problem is that we have 500 executives in KC with more executive experience. Should one be the candidate?

Regardless of whatever media charm she has, the policies she represents are still more of the same that have failed us for the last 8 years.

Wow.

The age-old meme of media bias! How dare the media ask questions of a vice-presidential nominee!

It's amusing that for the Democratic candidate, he's called a celebrity as an insult. For Gov. Palin, it's a compliment. For Senator Obama, not havning a decades-long career in Washington is a liability, for Gov. Palin, it's a virtue. For Senator Obama, bi-partisan legislation helping to secure 'loose' nuclear material or creating greater transparency in earmark spending is nothing. For Governor Palin, firing a personal chef is instant credibility as a reformer. Nevermind her office's continuing requests for earmarks and pork-barrel projects (over $100 million for fy2009).

John McCain sold out his last remaining principle when he picked the Governor as a running mate. As a registered Republican who voted for McCain in 2000 and wrote him in for 2004, I cannot in good conscience vote for him this year. He's changed his positions too much and his running mate is not, in my view, qualified to serve a heartbeat away from the presidency.

And the hand-wringing and wailing by the Republican establishment and the conservative, 'fact-free-zone' media is nothing more than hypocrisy.

Gov. Palin has executive experience as well as common sense. That is what is needed in Washington. 5oo Executives in KC? Good for them. Have you asked them if they could run the country or just "do" the job they now have. The media has made Obama as "rock star" figure. Instead of walking away from it he has embrassed it. Gov. Palin hasn't. Republicans that say they won't vote for McCain because he "changed his positions" are not Republicans. You're a Democrat. Obama did none of the things you list as bi-partisan legislation ....You need to check your information better. He has done nothing in Washington. We need people in government that are willing to "change" when they need for the betterment of the country. Gov. Palin changed when she saw she was wrong and so did John McCain. Will all of you?

This article is unbelievable!! How can Sarah Palin be "the most popular governor" if no one has ever heard of her? She may be the most popular one that Alaska has ever had, but she is a pitbull with lipstick to the rest of us! I find it ironic that the party that touts conservative values is now putting her daughter and the young man who got her pregnant out on stage as if they are heroes! They say "this is a family matter", "keep away from these young people", yet they parade them up on stage as if they are so proud of them or as if they are using them for a political benefit. Yes, stand by your children, but decide to actually be there for them, and not take on a job that will require the mother/grandmother to be far away. What will happen now? Will the teenage daughter and her teenage boyfriend and new daughter move into the vice president's house if they win?!! This is ridiculous! Obama and Biden will have my vote for REAL change, but also intelligence and level-headed thinking. Our country cannot afford to have another George Bush-like stubbornness in the White House!

People! People! I see we have Democrats (socialist) here in this post who believe in taking money away from people who have worked hard for a successful career and have been blessed with financial reward for their hard work and now Barrack Husein Oboma and his Democrat party want "Change" with one of them being a restribution of American hard earn money and restributing it down to the poor. Need to get a plan for the poor to get up on their feet and work and not stay in those tax burden Welfare programs. In addition, we have Democrates who claim they are christians with morals and values and they put down Gov Palin because she is a women of faith with a normal everyday family like most Americans do. NO family is perfect but we continue to try to maintian a level of High value.
I ask you Democrats? Are you really Christians who really follow the Word of God? That would mean you are against people who choose (Its a choice now)to be Gay, to be lesbians, again those who believe in abortion, and people who won't take up thy bed (as Jesus said) and walk to a job- not Welfare. Paul in the book of Romans Speaks about this in the BIBLE. Some Democrats may claim they are Christians by going to church and claim they follow the word of God. Well, the Democratic party platform contradicts the word of God. The Democratic party is liberal- "Live how you want as long as you don't affect or hurt anybody else". Now folks, are they really christians? Notice how Democrats are always angry at conservatives like Govenor Palin? President Bush? People who really don't live by Christian principles -conservatism get angry at people who do because I would say, they don't want to be reminded by how they live their lives. They know its wrong. The bible says people will hate Jesus and anyone who stands for Jesus will be hated. President Bush has stated he has a relationship with Jesus but the world hates him and Democrats think low of him. Again Democrats are not in line with the Bible principles. But I belive Jesus doesn't hate President Bush. Now I know what those Democratic Christians are thinking which is I am a Christian. You can't insult me like that. Well my response is you can't pick and choose verses from the Bible and say your are a Christian. You accept it and live by all of it or you're not a real Christian. And if you live by choosing what fits your life style, then you know what Jesus said in the Bible- "I never knew you"
I don't hate Democrats, I feel they are blinded by the media which everyone knows are liberal. I am not saying Republicans are perfect. I wasn't for McCain but I am happy that their is a Christian on the ticket who is a conservative chritian. Think about what conservative means. Does it mean boring to you Democrats? because we believe in God-Country-Family. Is that wrong or boring because you don't see the word "ME" in God-Country-family? or Democrats might say, What can the Government or Country do for me?
My Vote is for a moral living and Christian principles and values. I never did hear in the Democratic convention the mention of Christian values just family values. Can't leave God out folks. I never hear Democrats really support our Troops as verbaly as Republicans do.
God Bless America, God Bless our Troops, and God Bless everyone here who lives by the word of God and help those who don't that they will turn from their ways and live according to the Word of God. God says in his book to pray for you Democrats as well that you may turn to God and live by his ways and not by your own understanding.
Vote McCain/Palin for our nation to be lead by people of conservative values. By the way, I am not a white coucasian. (A stero type Democrats believe Republicans are) I'm a Hispanic male born in USA and proud to be an American.

I think it is very interesting that you feel that Democrats cannot be Christians. Democrats are more careful to be open to people of ALL beliefs. We prefer to let God judge the personal choices people make in their lives.

In response to 'checking your information on Obama better'...The Lugar-Obama NonProliferation Initiative is described in detail on the website of Seantor Richard Lugar (R-Ind). The Federal Funding Accountability & Transparency Act is described at the website for the US Senate with Tom Coburn (R-OK) as the author and Sen. Obama as a leading sponsor.

In addition, it's amusing and a little sad that some Republicans see themselves as the gate-keepers of their party and insist that anyone who criticizes or disagrees with a Republican can't be a Republican. The truth is that I am a Republican, but I have little time and no patience for a politician who labels himself a moderate in one year, then runs to the far right in an election year just to get votes. Changing positions out of principle or new information is called growth. Changing position for expediency is hypocrisy and THAT is what I can no longer respect from Senator McCain.

As for the Bible, I don't recall reading anywhere in that holy book that an (R) after my name makes me perfect and equipped to judge others or that a (D) means that someone isn't a real Christian. That is, I submit, more hypocrisy.

Here's an interesting part of Romans 9. Could it be prophetic?

Romans 9: 9-13
(9) For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sarah shall have a son.

(10) And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac;

(11) (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)

(12) It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.

(13) As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.

As Christians we need to treat one another with love and respect, regardless of which party line we choose to vote. Examine the candidates, do no rely upon their campaign ads which unfortunately are deliberately misleading to appeal to those who will rely only upon this before casting their vote. Pray for wisdom, pray that God would give you discernment, the ability to see the best and the worst of what each candidate would be like in office, and pray that God himself would influence this election for the good of a country that was begun with Christian principles as the underlying basis. This country needs to get back to basics. Pray.
