Q: “If you could intelligently redesign humanity, what would you change?”
A: Humbly, I do not feel qualified to design a human being or any other living organism. Who am I to question the work of the “Designer”? Is His work not “very good”?

I wouldn’t redesign a thing. God has a plan and a purpose for everything!

I’d like to have eyes that focus as well as those of a squid (who have their sensors on the correct side of the retinal circuitry, unlike birds and mammals).
I’d like eyes that see as far into the infrared as do insects, and also with those additional ultraviolet color sensors found in tropical birds. They see combinations of 4 distinct colors instead of the human 3. Or two for my left-handed brother and 5% of all men.
While we’re at it, give me nictitating membranes to keep flying sawdust and pool chlorine out without having to shut my eyes and go temporarily blind. That’s dangerous while sawing.
I’m frustrated by living with these designer knock-off human eyes. And they are our best-of-five senses! If we could see the world more clearly, wouldn’t it be to God’s advantage?

The eye … why not put the blood vessels BEHIND the retina (like with with squids) instead on top of it?

Where to start! Anyone with a familiarity of anatomy and physiology soon realizes that there is nothing intelligent about the design of humans. Here are a few examples and fixes, starting at the head and working my way down.
.
The retina: it is poorly attached to the optic nerve, and one of the consequences is a detached retina. Several of my friends have had to cope with this potentially blinding situation. There is an easy fix that a good designer would have used: attach the optic nerve firmly to the back of the retina so that it won’t detach as easily.
We choke because the esophagus and trachea come together in the back of the throat. Of all mammals, we are the most prone to choking due to the anatomical compromises that allow us to talk. Snoring and sleep apnea are also results of these compromises. In a redesign I would separate the two passages completely. Hey, if we all looked like that, no one would care!
The recurrent laryngeal nerve: if there were ever an award to be given for stupid design, this should get it. Though it controls motor and sensory function in the larynx, rather than going on a direct route from the brain to the voice box, the left recurrent laryngeal nerve takes a many inch detour into the chest and around the aortic arch, then into the larynx. The right one, 9” shorter, takes a slightly more direct route looping underneath the right subclavian artery before enervating the larynx. At least we are better off than giraffes, where this same nerve is about 20 feet long (a direct, non-looping connection in giraffes would be about a foot long).
Hernias – look at how the testes have to descend through the abdominal wall. They actually loop over the pelvic bones! This pair of weak spots in the abdominal wall is one of the most common areas that herniate, or allow intestines to slip through. A good designer would have made sperm that can take the heat and kept the testes within the pelvis.
The prostate: the urethra runs through a gland that enlarges with age. Fully 1/3 of all men will have to cope with the joys of an enlarged prostate: all the problems of a garden hose being positioned so that a large rock slowly crushes it. Reroute the urethra around the prostate – no problem for an intelligent designer.
Women have their own set of issues, especially “sneeze incontinence” from sagging pelvic muscles and ligaments. A good designer would have made stronger sphincters and could have attached the bladder using a stronger ligament.
Knees: now it gets real personal. The ligaments and meniscus do not wear well and are very injury-prone. Arthritis and subsequent knee surgeries, including replacement, are becoming common even in patients under age 50. Both of the knees I was born with were removed last year and replaced with metal – a welcome substitution. Stronger ligaments and cartilage able to cope with upright posture and backward flexion would be minimum requirements; an intelligent designer would probably scrap the whole system and start over, thus eliminating the many design flaws in the existing human knee.
I could go on forever. Our anatomical systems are the result of evolution tinkering with what was there before. We bear the scars of evolution. Darn, bet I don’t win a DVD!

Oh, my goodness.
Let’s see. The back was certainly one.
Myself, the sort of immune system craziness that results in allergies, especially deadly ones. What kind of mixed up defense mechanism ends up killing what it is supposed to be protecting?
Or how about the reproductive system, where the narrow pelvis needed to walk upright meets the big skull needed to house our brain?

I would definitely add radio communication abilities, and an image transfer capacity.
On the order of a “fix” of what we do have, I would either transfer all of the DNA in mitochondria to the nucleus, or add recombination and good repair mechanisms to mitochondria. While mitochondria are not as great a problem as some have proposed, lack of recombination and relatively poor DNA repair mecchanisms in mitochondria still leave them more vulnerable than necessary.

Don’t misunderstand me. Life is not fair. There are things you don’t like. But still, God is sovereign. God’s mind is far superior than yours. In other words, you are best designed as you can be.

Question: “If you could intelligently redesign humanity, what would you change?
Answer: With all due respect, you are asking the wrong question. We humans are living creatures, and as such we are subject to evolution. Evolution is driven by two forces:
1) Natural selection.
2) Sexual selection.
The emphasis is on sexual selection. Now, humans for the most part still reproduce in the traditional fashion. Since we can control with whom we reproduce, we can influence which genes our children receive. All we have to do is choose mates with characteristics which we want our children to have. The correct question is thus not one of “if”, but rather one of “how”.
I cannot speak for what other people intend, but I intend to marry someone intelligent, thus increasing the probability that I have intelligent children. (This is also in my own best interest. I have to be around whoever I marry, and I would prefer to be around someone mentally stimulating.) I hope my descendants will also make the same choice, thus breeding for intelligence.
I would also like to note that improving humanity is not just a matter of genes, but of memes as well. Children are infamous for copying their parents. I thus plan to marry someone whose behavior is worthwhile copying, thus increasing the chances that my children are well-behaved, morally and intellectually, and I hope my descendants will do likewise.

Well… for the most part I’d say God’s done a great job. The whole ‘free will’ thing makes us a very nasty bunch at time but I certainly want to give it up.
But here… I have four children… in a very small house. So I would add a ‘pause’ button to kids… and maybe a ‘mute’ as well. I’ve been searching these kids for one for years and I think he forgot to put one on.

As the answer goes, I wouldn’t change a thing. God did a good job making us in his image. Do we make mistakes? Sure…that is what makes us human. If we didn’t make mistakes, we would be God. And that is not what God had in mind.

If I could revamp humanity I think I would design us so that we utilized 100% of our brain. In fact we use very little of the ultimate potential that is stored there. Even geniuses, who obviously use a lot more than us average humans, still don’t use the maximum capacity of their brain. I think if we knew more about our status and place in the universe this would be a better world. It’s just a thought.
posted October 16, 2008 at 4:06 pm
I think I would allow humans to feel inside themselves the amount of love God has for each person. I don’t think we can fully understand how much He loves us. If we did, we wouldn’t believe and behave the same way. We wouldn’t treat each other the same way if we could feel love (like God’s love)for the other person. Acts of kindess would be rampant and acts of pride would be far less. Therefore, discipline and guilt would be far less required and felt.

If each one of us would commit or if need be punish and for a day be riddled to submit to communism by asking God to show him a sign of deity that only required the smallest in faith the very faith that only for the smallest in faith. that would be the faith of a mustard seed. so small, so ready to be washed away in the soil, never to root to maturity. yet when planted, and prayed for a day, hey, dont worry, just let God water this beautiful seed into the strongest of shrubery that turns into the very strongest and secured tree and beauty of a deist, or athnostic or agnostics portion he contains ………or better said
THINKS he contains….see, there it is..If i can be the writer of a redesigning blueprint of humanity, why cant you out do me, but testing my attempt at heroicly saving our very souls???or a bravery that can equate a crucifixion such as Jesus suffered who was truly the revolutionary that spoke the truth in keeping the desing of humanity from becoming what it is today!! 1 Samuel 10:23-27

That’s an incredibly difficult question. I’d want to make people more inclined to be responsible and compassionate to others, but that reeks of being controlling.
I’m a father who believes, to a certain degree, in allowing his children to make some mistakes to help them learn and mature. I’m not sure that forcing people to pray or read Scripture would be effective. It would simply be a legalistic, pharisaical exercise without any heart behind it.
I have yet to fathom a way in which we regulate the heart while allowing free will to remain.
The only thing I might adjust is the method of reproduction. Perhaps make it more difficult or limited in some way. Maybe reproduction would only be possible if a certain chemical was secreted, and that chemical would only be secreted if both parties were willing participants, were emotionally and mentally stable, and had reasonable beta wave activity.
This way not just any fool could have kids. They could mess up their own life, but would have limited impact on future generations.

I’m surprised that that immune organ called the appendix was designed by God as a narrow blind sac off the gut, leading to infection and sometimes death, when that design (as a narrow blind sac) is totally unnecessary to its function as an immune organ (the immune cells enter and leave through the lymph system). It might make sense if the appendix were primarily designed for some other purpose and no longer serves that purpose, but that would be evolution.
And designing lungs as a offshoot of the stomach, leading to a shared opening that can cause one to need the Heimlich maneuver, wasn’t brilliant either. Separate entrances for air and food would have made much more sense.
And the shared exit of the sexual and urinary ducts is another poor ducting problem that simply designing well separated exits would have overcome. The closeness of the urinary and excretory exits is another problem as any woman who has had a UTI can attest.
Add to that back problems because of a spinal column and associated musculature poorly designed for vertical posture, the damaged gene for producing vitamin C (which damage we share with the same damaged gene in chimpanzees), and a myriad of other engineering defects that would get any human engineer fired, and one might actually think that humans were not ‘designed’ but merely cobbled together by minor modifications of old pre-existing parts.
I would like the DVD. I can think of several ways that it can be used. Not all of them involving a DVD player.

Sure it would be great if all the evil and suffering would disappear in the world, but evil in the world comes from choices people make. If you take evil out of the world, you are taking the free will God has given to all humans.

God made me as I am, and I would be remiss to believe that I can out do God. We may question why God did design us the way He did, but we need to recognize one huge truth: God does not make mistakes. Never has, never will. We overcome the biggest problem that humans have when we recognize that we need a savior, and willingly surrender our will to the will of God. That problem is the one of pride, not sin. Pride is what keeps people from recognizing the fact that, (a) there is a God, and his son died for us; and, (b) they do have sin. When someone surrenders their will to the will of God, that is when God is able to begin making a difference in their life.

I shrink at trying to change God’s creation. We are made in His image, and by Him. He does not make junk to be changed. BUT, IF I WERE ASKED BY HIM what I would change, it would definitely be insecurity.
In so many cultures, honor is how others see you and your family. How many women and men…boys and girls are murdered each day by their own families for the sake of HONOR? Too many.
A boyfriend kills a girlfriend because she wants out or vice-versa. They are more concerned for their own feelings than anyone elses. Wars start over insecurities with other nations. What are they doing? Just what are they up to? No trust=insecurity.
The worries over what you look like in other’s eyes and over what they are thinking and doing stem from insecurities in your own heart and mind. If we could live without this one thing, there would be a dramatic drop in pain and suffering. AND I believe that the inability to believe in God stems from mistrust in others and even yourself. You cannot believe because you don’t trust your own heart or your own soul.

I would not change a thing about the development of humanity. If we were supposed to be designed differently we would have been. God made us who we are for a reason. There is a purpose behind His design. Just because we may not be able to see that entire purpose, does not mean that His design is wrong. After all, there is a very excellent reason that God is called the Creator of the universe.
Also, think of it this way, even if by some way we could redesign human beings to be somehow “better” then someone would still come along and criticize the new human design too. Human beings aren’t going to always agree on everything, especially something as important as how we are made, so even if there is a “new and improved” human being by some peoples’ standards, it doesn’t mean we are “new and improved” by others’ standards. I say leave our design to God where it came from in the first place. There is a reason He made us, and not the other way around.
For example, look at eugenics. Many scientists thought that they could improve the human race by genetically enhancing the traits that were supposedly superior to others, but look how that turned out. Hello, Hitler! He showed us how damaging it is to mess around with something we shouldn’t be doing. Granted, some may use eugenics as a way for weeding out the diseases that can harm us, but then again there are always going to be people who take something like eugenics and use it for evil purposes. Frankly, I don’t believe human beings can be trusted with the awesome responsibility of designing other human beings.

There is no reason to redesign humanity. Everything we are and everything we do is by God’s design. Our flaws and insecurities bring us closer to Him. There have been times in the past that I sat and wondered why something couldn’t be better. I worried and moped and questioned God’s reason for letting bad things happen; only to pray more, read the Bible more and seek Him out more. In the end, I’ve come to realize that these are the times that bring me back to God and these are the times that were I reap the greatest blessings. Thank you God!

If I could redesign humanity everyone would be on the same level, no race would be made to feel less than the next. People wouldn’t be afraid to go to certain areas and worry about being profiled. In my world come as you are!!!

I have been a follower of Jesus Christ since I was 8 years old. I have had my times of doubting that I could even belong to such a HolyOne (during the years from 15 to 29). The fact being that I am so unholy by my own actions and that I have been during my 55 years here very indecisive, worrier, wishywashy, procrastinator, coward, ignorant, lazy, glutinous, jealous, sickly with multiple health problems and have had at times a problem with inferiority complex and am at this moment depressed and ridden with anxiety, shows that I am an imperfect human being. I am a woman who was abandoned by her husband after 32 (what I thought were wonderful) years of marriage.
God came incarnate, (through His Son Jesus Christ) to save the imperfect people like me. I am most thankful! What would become of me if he had not taken the time to love me and lift me up?
Sometimes I have thought that it would have been easier for God to have made us all puppets he could pull the strings to get obedience, or a robot he could program to ensure that we would be able to please him and not rebel.
Then, I have thought that would not be how God wants it. He wants to see if we are willing to turn to Him for help and change. We only have to take a step in His direction and He is there all ready to take us up in His loving arms and whisper in our ears as he dries our eyes, “I love you, my Child. I am always here waiting for you. I know your life is hard. My Son’s life was hard there on Earth. I know how it is for you. I care. Let me take your burdens, all of them. Now, I will set you back down to the ground. You run and play and know that I am with you all the time, all the way. You run and tell others what I have said to you. My Son has made you alright with me. More than just alright! I love you. I love you. I LOVE YOU CHILD! YOU MAKE MY HEART GLAD THAT I MADE HUMANKIND WHEN I SEE YOUR WILLINGNESS TO COME TO ME IN ALL YOUR BROKENESS AND SAY “Fix me Abba, make me right with you; help me spread the news of your love for us all. It is because of your Son that I am truly able to lift HOLY HANDS TO YOU. HE HAS TAKEN MY IMPERFECTNESS AWAY.”
To answer the question, “If I could Intelligently Redesign Humanity; what would I change?” I wouldn’t even attempt it. I don’t believe any human has that kind of intelligence. We’d mess it up beyond repair. God is the only perfecter of our faults.

Redesign humanity is one of the major problems that this society is facing today. Human beings are trying to perfect something that they had no dealing with from the beginning of time. The word specifically states that,”in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”. This statement, and others, lets us know that we as human had no parts in the creation of man, so why do we feel that we can now perfect it, we can’t. God is the only one that knows our ins and outs. Yes,science and technology has come up with some theories of their own, in which they could not even have these discoveries, if the Lord hadn’t allowed them the measure of intelligience that they do have. But do you really believe that He would make creation and then allow creation to outwit, or outsmart Him, come on.
I am all for medicine and taking care of the body naturally so, but there is no way we can redesign human and give it spirit, soul, and body. Where will the spirit man go at the ending of its life span, or are you planning on making it with no ending. Knowing what the word of God says, there is no way possible for this to take place. I say let well enough alone. God loves each and everyone of us just the way we are, even with our imperfections. He stated after He made man that it was good. What more do you desire. Give God His just praise and worship Him while living your life according to His directions that He left for us in the Bible, and life will be grand.

If I could intelligently redesign humanity, the only thing I would do is to increase the innate ability of the human soul to forgive. That ingredient alone in the human psyche would be enough to change the world. It would make us more like Christ, therefore closer to God, more compassionate, and actually much happier, productive human beings!

If I could change the human design, I would like everyone to be accepting of the differences in others. Individuality is a great trait. Humans need to accept all of the uniqueness of others and love them as bothers and sisters.

I would change nothing since what God has created is perfect and as soon as people understand his design and plan they will become what they were created to be.

I would redesign humanities ability to comprehend truth.

If you could intelligently redesign humanity, what would you change?
I’m not sure how intelligent it would be… I’m sure there would be loads of drawbacks… but I want to teleport! I’m tired of having to allow time to get places and having to find a new vehicle whenever one dies. Does it show that I’m stuck at home with the kids?

What would I change?
I don’t think I would change anything…our pain reveals our need for our Savior. Our joy is a gift. without one the other doesn’t exist. It’s the good and the bad that is evident in the foundation of our world.

If I could intelligently redesign humanity I would try to avoid technology moving ahead so quickly and design a way for people to not be so influenced against what should be well known truths. I would hope that my design would somehow have a way about it that protected minds from the influence of media and violence.

To plan and make appropriate structures so flooding can be avoided. Did you know that more people die of floods than earthquakes, tornadoes, and almost any other natural disaster?

This is a tough provoking question. But you know, I don’t think I can intelligently design or redesign what God has already design. We human have the most and highest intelligence out of all God creation. The only thing I would like to change, is to take the force and control of “the evil one” out of human mind and out of this world. That way we can all live with each other with LOVE, JOY and HAPPINESS on earth without sadness or sorrow.
God created us wonderfully and beautifully. No human soul can think or outsmart God’s creation.

I would take away humans ability to see each others skin color. we would still be able to see all the other beautiful colors in nature that god has provided for us but we would not be able to differentiate between each others colors or, I’d make everyone a nice peachy orangy browny color. Id leave the rest alone because people are basically good if given the opportunity to be.
