Vatican Declares 'Angels & Demons' Harmless

angelsanddemonspic2foric.jpgAccording to an article from the Associated Press, the folks in Rome aren't worried about the new Dan Brown movie, "Angels & Demons," which premiered there on Monday, reporting that:

"Reviewers at the Vatican's newspaper have passed judgment on "Angels & Demons," finding the religious thriller commercial and inaccurate, but concluding it is "harmless" entertainment and not a danger to the church...The film offers "more than two hours of harmless entertainment, which hardly affects the genius and mystery of Christianity," L'Osservatore's reviewer wrote. It's "a videogame that first of all sparks curiosity and is also, maybe, a bit of fun."

How about that? After all the hoopla leading up to the anticipated controversial "Angels & Demons" release next week in the US, preceded by the Vatican's negative response to movie of Dan Brown's novel, "The Da Vinci Code," I have to admit--I'm a little surprised. Are you?

Imagine that - a sophisticated, grown-up response from the Vatican. Given the response to serious films such as "The Last Temptation of Christ," and "Priest," this is at least a start.

Well, I most certainly feel better now that I know it is "harmless". I was incredibly worried! :o)

So the Vatican declares it harmless and still gets criticism. It seems they are the only orginazation that can be criticized now days.

As some have said here, why listen to them anyway right? So Pope Paul the 6th, back in the 60s wrote Humani-Vite and said, birth control of the sort that we are so familiar with today will lead to women being treated with disrespect in the future. How Silly.

Never mind that the birth rate of Europe is 1.38 per woman which is well below replacement (2.11). So what if western society disappears into the night over the next 100 years.

Those silly Catholics.

My earlier comment was about the fact that the Vatican deemed a movie as dangerous to the Church without watching it. They made foolish remarks, now they look like fools (Pokes Greg to the scripture written.)

Now, there's a lot of reasons why the Caucasian birth rate so low in Europe. Part has to do with education requirements there. Another part is how many people are born Catholic yet don't practice their birth religion. There is also something to be said in Western way of thinking that children are a burden, and not the blessing they truly are. It's a messy situation.

There are so many important issues to discuss and official pronouncements to sort out, explain, often ignore. We just don't need the Vatican acting as film critics, pro or con!
