Donald Trump and his Miss USA pageant may not have chosen their battle wisely when they finally decided to take away Carrie Prejean’s Miss California crown yesterday. Fox News is reporting that Prejean, the devout Christian who spoke out against gay marriage at the Miss USA contest in May, was let go after she insisted on appearing at a Special Olympics event without the formal approval from pageant organizers. No matter what you think about same-sex matrimony, Trump is going to lose any public-relations battle against striving handicapped athletes. As Prejean e-shrieked in one of her last emails as Miss California, “Its for the SPECIAL OLYMPICS!!!”
But the pageant had lost the war with Prejean almost as soon as she spoke her mind about her state’s marital-rights controversy in response to a judge’s question in April. Vilified in the blogs, especially by her questioner, Miss USA judge Perez Hilton, Prejean quickly became a celebrity to conservative Christians. A week after the pageant, she introduced a musical act at the Gospel Music Association’s Dove Award to a standing ovation.
“Stop speaking for me. I have MY own voice,” Prejean tells Miss USA’s executive director, Keith Lewis, in emails released by the pageant. She likely has her own agent, too, booking her time and, most importantly, managing her message for maximum fame and profit in Christian circles. She may have lost her crown, but Prejean has gained a career.

Can we please stop talking about this woman? Her actions don’t exactly represent Christ to the culture at large! Please Carrie, GO AWAY!
posted June 11, 2009 at 4:35 pm
Hasn’t it been 15 minutes yet? She’s not this newsworthy. There are two current blogs up here about her losing her crown. Slow news day?

Paul, or whomever wrote this article,
I think you need to reconsider your use of the phrase “devout Christian” in reference to this woman and perhaps wipe the stardust from your eyes.
Whether you agree with Carrie’s views or not, she’s rather hostile and antagonistic to anyone who doesn’t cater to her whims. Opposing gay marriage shouldn’t automatically make you a cause celebre for Christianity.
Perhaps you should post or link to the FULL AND COMPLETE email exchange between Carrie and Keith Lewis so your readers can see that neither Donald Trump or Keith Lewis had an issue with any appearance(s) Carrie wanted to do, but rather it was her rebellious, dismissive attitude toward the contract she signed and the promises she made to fulfill her obligations even after Donald Trump stood by her after the intitial backlash for her views.
Shame on you for presenting the situation any differently than that.

Charm wants her to go away, perhaps preferring to listen to Mr Perez Hilton. Mr Lewis, the pageant director, objected to her participating in a Special Olympics event? Pathetic.

Yep, her 15 minutes of fame are up; they were up 14 and a half minutes ago.
Her faith (or at least her professed faith) is not the issue here. What’s at issue is a failure to complete a contractual obligation, for which she was rightfully terminated. Most of us work under stipulated conditions, and failure to comply can bring on consequences up to and including termination. In other words, she’s not special.

I am 68 yrs & my precious baby brother died of aids resulting from his gay lifestyle, so I am not homophobic. In catching up with events on my computer after being away, I am struck by two events: 1) a beauty queen being fired for opposing gay marriage & for appearing at a “Special Olympics” event in opposition to the Miss USA leaders.
2) Sara Palin’s family again being attacked by a late night talk show host.
This certainly rattles my desire to be associated in any way with Donald Trump, the Miss USA group, Donald Trump’s TV show, David Letterman, and TV in general. With this change over to Digital TV maybe it is time to just stop watching TV & turn our thoughts to something with more value.

Robroy,
First, I’m not a homosexualist, whatever that is, not even sure that’s a word. I do support homosexuals in their fight for their civil rights, which they already have in my country (Canada). As I explain to my daughter, every person has the right to be treated equally, and and with respect. These people are fighting for the right to share and express love? How can anyone object to that?
I don’t listen to Perez Hilton, never really heard much about him before this stupid pageant kafuffle.
I heard Miss Cali’s answer, and it was badly phrased (what is “opposite marriage”), she’s a very poor public speaker, and that’s why she lost, not on her views, but her phrasing of them.
She was not fired because of the Special Olympics. Donald Trunp is a business man, and he doesn’t care a fig about gay marriate. She was fired for refusing to do certain appearances that were set up for her. If you wanna wear the crown, they own you for the year (or at least the surgically enhanced breasts that they paid for – what’s Jesus’s opinion on breast augmentation?). Like anyone else, she didn’t do the job she was hired for, so she was fired.
And yes I want her gone. I would like all of this stupid pageant, and breast enlargement and nude photo nonsense gone. Boys are dying overseas in a war for oil, Canadian boys as well as American, American’s can’t afford health care, the economy is collapsing, the polar ice caps are melting, and we are wasting way too much thought and ink to an airhead full of silicone who doesn’t know how to connect words together to make a proper sentence. She’s gaining noteriety for being stupid, and that’s not the role model I want put out their for young girls.
Are we clear? Yeah, I want her gone.

Ali is a complete idiot! No one cares what these corporate executives have to say! She is a big winner here and I do not blame her for not listening to these out of touch fools!
Good job on the article!
