Has the cult of celebrity worship gone too far? Last week's news highlighted a few Michael Jackson fans around the world committing suicide after being devastated by the pop singer's death. A UK media outlet Sky News quoted the president...

My guess is those who kill themselves over the death of a celebrity have had problems before the celeb died. The death of their "hero" just triggered the action that they might have eventually done anyway..suicide. Why would anyone die just because the celeb they liked died? Makes no sense.

Michael Jackson is far more than a celebrity,he himself has been a faith. For me, his death is the most grievous event, my grievous degeee has exceeded the moment when my dear biological mom passed away.My world will never be the same without my Michael. I love him so much.I cried out twice when I am alone and wept many times per day.I knew there must be some people would die for him, this is predictable. He is really worthy of that.

The saddest aspect of this story is that there are people that have pinned all of their hopes, dreams and aspirations on a person that they truly don't know on any level even remotely resembling intimacy. On the other hand, God offers true hope and relationship (without the glittering toys and trappings of our shallow pop culture) in the traditional Christian faith. If anything is to be learned here, it's that we've become a culture that's starved for true meaning and spirituality, and that, like starving people, are willing to eat anything that crosses our path.
What a shame that we ignore the Bread of Life that God offers us.

Although it is a monumental tragedy that we lost Michael now, he himself
would not want anyone to join him until the Lord calls them home.

I am terribly saddened for these fans and how little their lives must
have meant to them. It is so sick.

RIP LITTLE BIG MAN...

The fact of the matter is Micheal Jackson never gave himself or promoted himself in any messianic or godlike way. Larger than life could certainly be terms to describe him. It is not his fault that people choose to idolize him to the point of false worship and suicide due to the death of their "god". It certainly goes to show at least these things: that man has always had a choice in obeying the truth. The question is have those who commit suicide had the opportunity to examine the best evidence that proves what the truth is (ie the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Word of God). Also, fame never trumps faith. The greater the fame, the greater the exposure. The greater the exposure the greater the revelation of man's imperfections. However, the better we come to know Jesus, the better we come to a knowledge of His love and righteousness. The better one can also come to trust Him over any famous man.

It's so sad that someone would take their own life over a celebrity's death. I agree with one comment that these people obviously had other issues in their lives. Sure, I'm saddened by his death, after all, he was a musical genius. We will miss his talent. However, my life is anchored in the love of our Savior, Jesus Christ. On Him I will trust and love.

ok, so none of these people are dying "for" michael jackson. They are killing themselves because of their own pain and suffering. To say that they are dying for michael jackson is completely inaccurate. If he was about to get hit by a bus, and someone pushed him out of the way, that would be dying for him. If they were willing to put their life on the line because they were standing up for him, that would be willing to die for someone. No one ever died for the Lord by suicide. It goes to show how little some people have to live for...

I think it is a sad statement of our world today that our young are so starved for the truth that they are willing to take their own lives because of the loss of their idolic artist. Parents need to be more in touch with the youth of today.

WHEN WE BECAME CHRISTIANS WE GAVE UP OUR OLD WAYS AND BECAME BORN AGAIN.
NOT FROM OUR MOTHERS WOMB BUT LIVING BY THE INSTRUCTIONS OF OUR LORD AND JESUS CHRIST.AND I GIVING OUR LIFE TO HIM WE CAME INTO ANOTHER UNDERSTANDING.WE SEE THE WORLD AND ITS HABITANTS WITH A DIFFERENT EYE.
OR SHOULD I SAY A SPIRITUAL EYE.WE DON'T KNOW WHAT THESE PEOPLE WERE TAUGHT,OR IF THEY WERE EVER INTRODUCE TO JESUS AS THEIR SAVIOUR.JUDGE AND YOU SHALL NOT BE JUDGED.LET'S NOT CRITISIZE LETS PRAY FOR THE LOST SOULS.ALTHOUGH MICHAEL JACKSON WAS CALLED THE KING OF POP HE HIMSELF KNEW THE TRUE KING.LET HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE.PRAY FOR HIS GRIEVING FAMILY THAT THEY WILL HAVE SOME PEACE AND UNDERSTANDING WHY THEIR BROTHER SON AND FATHER WAS TAKEN SO SOON.
PRAY THAT MICHAEL TROUBLED SOUL IS AT PEACE.

Okay!... I know its sad and everything about Michael passing away, and I'm a big fan of Michael myself. But I would never go that far in killing my own self, just because of that. I know this is not what Micheal would want! He would want us to move on with our lives, and to be happy. Just like the words in one of his songs..(Smile) Even tho your feeling down, just let out a smile. Be happy and get on with your life. I love Micheal Jackson and always will. Thats why I'll never forget of the things he done and his words and his music. He is in Heaven right now having a wonderful time. Soon when the lord calls us to come home. We will see Micheal again.

So there is no point in taking your life over anyone. Michael Jackson is not Jesus. He is not on any bible or him dying on a cross. So why are some people making like he is? The only thing we should pray and bow to is the Lord Jesus. He just a simple man with a dream before anyone knew who Micheal was. He is also a man who wanted us to make this world a better place. He is a man who help out the African Americans. He is a man that is just doing the good Lords work. Now that he did his good deeds. The lord came to him and said.. "Its time to go home my Child" Now Micheal is in a better place.

Lots of people think that he is gone, we won't see him again. But thats not true! He is still with us, he is still helping us if we need him. He is even listening to what everyone is saying. So Micheal Jackson is not gone. Jesus says... "He is not dead!, he is only a sleep!"

Anyway my point is.. I tink its pretty dumb to take your life, just because he died. I pray to God that you help thos who are going to troubles and need the lord most.

God bless everyone! Rest in peace to the King of Pop.
We will meet again. God bless

Even since June 25, I've been thinking a lot about Michael Jackson's death. I've been trying to study his life and I bought newspapers and collector's magazines centering his death. Also, I cried a little bit -- especially after his memorial service. Some people think I have grown obsessed, but when a coworker said others had killed themselves over Michael Jackson, I was shocked. I looked it up, and it was true. Now, I'm not the best person to give advice over suicide, but it's extreme to kill yourself over a celebrity. Don't get me wrong, I feel sad that Michael Jackson died, too. When I was a little girl, I used to admire him. Though, I'm not really boy-crazy, if I was with a male, I would like if their were as handsome and kind as Jackson was. Also, what thinking of his Thriller era, listening to "Human Nature," thinking about the memorial, and seeing his daughter say her speech have in common...it made me weep. However, it's not enough to end my life over. Michael Jackson made had been called "The King of Pop," but he was simply just an entertainer. He wasn't like God...he was human. To end this, all I can say for his suicidal fans...seek help if you feel this way. Trust me -- life will go on.

I really do think that it is sad about the people committing sucide over michael jackson, i mean he was a great singer but he isn't the lord and we as americans need to let him rest. he had a purpose in life and the lord choose to come and get him for rapture with him. let's just keep the family in prayer in thier time of comfort.thanks.

i agree with all the comments, im just browsing and come up to this report. wow! such stupid actions, to commit suicide? u know, im one of mj's loyal fans and i love him, but to cut ur life is nonsense..! Mj, well he's gone ahead of us, were sure we will have our own time. life is a gift from God, we should enjoy it to the fullest, having God in our lives. For sure, MJ is weeping over the news that his beloved fans commit such actions. If not that michael jackson's time has come, i dont think he will cut his own life, coz he's enjoying his life like most of us do. People, esp. MJ fans, let us move on...! Death is the most certain circumstance in our human nature. His passing only means that although, as if he owned the whole world, i mean the fame, the wealth is not a guarantee that you will live 4ver. Our life is without a purpose without our Creator, our loving God. Let us be grateful that God lend to us a very special, talented person like Mj. Of course, we are sad and grief-stricken, me myself is still grieving, im crying...but its not the end of the world you know. MJ will always be remembered. Let us be happy he is now in a place where there is no pain, suffering, but joy and love with the Lord, our God.

There are some lovely posts here which have really helped me. I am a long term Christian and a long term fan of Michael's. In fact, the year I came to the Lord was the very year I also 'discovered' Michael. In the absence of parents, friends and a family, he became all of those things and more. He was an inspiration, a role model and, alongside the Lord, he is the reason behind all of the positive things I've done with my life since. His death came so suddenly and was such a shock that it has driven me to despair. I haven't been able to work since, or concentrate on anything. I cry many times every day, pray for hours every night and can't go on like this, but can't see things getting better either. Everything is different now. I feel as though I am living, but not alive. Although I know that suicide is never the answer, I can totally understand the despair that those fans felt and my heart goes out to them, and to their loved ones, who need to be assured that there was nothing they could have done to prevent such actions occurring. I believe that God has mercy on those who commit suicide whilst not in the right state of mind. Most fans know that Michael was not God, but it still doesn't ease the pain. For some, losing a loved one, whether that be a 'celebrity' or a family member (and let us remember that for some, he gave more love than ones own family), makes life unbearable.

Michael's death was the worst thing to ever happen in my life, and it was even worse that the LA memorial was on my 16th birthday. A few days after my birthday, I got to thinking about Michael and how much I lost, because I've been a fan since my 3rd birthday. After I had been to a girlfriend's house and drank tequila and smoked cigarettes and marijuana with 2 other girls, I walked downstairs to my basement and tried to commit suicide. I remember it so clear: I grabbed an orange extension cord, tied it to the pipes on the basement ceiling, made a loop and a tight double knot. Then I got on a steel chair, put the loop around my neck, and slowly inched towards the edge of the chair. But for some reason, my feet wouldn't move. It was as if someone was blocking me from slipping off of the chair. I felt like someone else was in the basement besides me. I looked down at my feet, and it was definitely a human spirit. I looked even closer, and I knew it was Michael. Tears rolled down my cheeks as Michael moved my hands towards the loop and pulled it off of my neck, and I slowly got down from the chair. Michael Jackson, was, and still is, my life, my soul, and my guardian angel. I dream of the day when Michael and I can be together in heaven, whether I die of natural causes or commit suicide somehow. :/ RIP Michael Jackson. I love you more than anything in the world.

From your biggest fan,

Iris Nippers
