Michael Vick: Repentance, Forgiveness, or Refusal?

Tuesday July 28, 2009

Michael Vick, who was just released from jail after financing and hosting a dog fighting operation, will be given another chance to play for the NFL. Here's why I'm going to pray for him and draft him onto my fantasy team.

As a follower of Yeshua I think we should forgive and give Michael a second chance. However I don't think that means we have to forget what was done. If Michael can show us that he is a changed man then let him show us. He has Tony Dungy vouching for him and Tony is a high character person. Not all people were raised to believe that pets were parts of the family. I for one am a huge animal person, but I have relatives who view dogs like cattle. For those people that are calling for Vick's head (still) I would recommmend that they look at themselves. No one is perfect.

IMO the only thing Vick is sorry for is getting caught and sent to jail on the the dog fighting/killing charges. Time will tell if he is actually sorry. Should he have been allowed back by the NFL? Not in my opinion.

I'm with pagansister on this one. The only thing he is sorry for is getting caught. Has he made any large donations to the Humane Society? How about volunteering some time? Didn't think so.

Who among us has not sinned? Who among us is as bad as his worst act, or is as good as his best? I wonder if y'all are as adamant against Ben Roethlisberger, whom the media (ESPN, especially) has virtually ignored. Yes, there is a racial angle...PEACE.

Yes I think that Michael deserves another chance because he has been punished by the law and Peta. Michael got more time than some of the real criminals that has done harm to humans. He has lost everything and he should be able to make a living in peace. He doesn't owe anybody anything else including Peta. Peta needs to give some of that money they are collecting and save a childs life for a change. It time to let it go and find someone else to talk about. I will be wearing my number 7 jersey! Go Mike!

My question to pagansister what does sorry looks like to you? Does he needs to be crying in public and always paying out money to the Human Society in order to get forgiveness? You all don't know how he feels nor do you care so why do you care if he is sorry or not? You all just want to keep throwing stones because it is easy to do when the stone is not being thrown at you.

Charm,

Vick actually is working with the Humane Society to educate and discourage dog fighting. At least according to FoxSports.com

Natasha; To those kids who "worship" sports heros, what does it say when a player gets to return to, in this case, the NFL, after a criminal act, in this case, dog fighting/killing? It says if you have enough money, and spend a little time in the clink, you can go back to your zillion dollar a year job...making more money than god, playing a game.

What does sorry look like? Who the heck knows...I just don't think he deserves to play his game anymore. Surely he has enough money (if he didn't blow it on his dogs) to live comfortably. IMO he'd still be raising fighting dogs and killing the losers and the "bait" dogs if he hadn't gotten caught. How can anyone enjoy watching animals kill each other? He also knows how to play in front of cameras, to say the "right things". I still contend, he's only sorry he got caught. If I remember correctly (and I'm not sure) but he first tried to claim he knew nothing about the dog fighting...on HIS property. That shows something of his actual charactor.
