Introducing "Pastor Brown"

Monday August 17, 2009

Categories: Entertainment, Movies

Watch out Tyler Perry, there's a new black church/Christian film in town. Tyler meet "Pastor Brown", the directorial debut from "Soul Food" series star Rockmond Dunbar. It's the story of an exotic dancer's return home to assume the position of pastor of her dying father's church and all of the drama that ensues. Sounds a little like the prodigal son, doesn't it? Therefore making it sound a little like 2005's "The Gospel" and 2003's "The Fighting Temptations".

The movie reunites Dunbar with his "Soul Food" castmate Nicole Ari Parker, casts one of Perry's favorites Tasha Smith, and even introduces so-called prosperity preacher Creflo Dollar to the big screen.

Check it out:

There is currently no release date for this movie, but if Tyler Perry has anything to do with it, there may not be one until well after his release of "I Can Do Bad All By Myself". Nevertheless, it looks like a good time for black church movies despite it being a storyline that's already been done twice--if not more--times before.
