Now that the turkey leftovers have been put away, and Black Friday is just a bad memory until I get my credit card statement, I can turn my indulgent nature to listening to the Christmas music I love nonstop. Christian music can always be counted on for a plethora of new Christmas releases each season, and this year is no exception. This season. mainstream stalwarts like Chris Tomlin and Sonicflood add to the holiday music canon, but then so do Big Daddy Weave and Downhere. Most of the selections on these albums are pretty conventional, but there are always one or two songs that stand out and get added to my playlist. In fact, I thought about recommending albums this year, but let’s be honest, most of us buy our music song by, or more specifically, download by download so here are my five new favorite tunes for the season.
“Winter Snow” by Chris TomlinThis song doesn’t feature Chris Tomlin as much as it does Audrey Assad, and the song is all the better for that in my opinion. This song is an original , but the images are so beautiful and the melody so inviting, it is going to become a classic, I am sure.
“When Love First Cried” by Sonicflood
Most of this new Christmas recording is a bit ho-hum, but this original song is one of the better moments.
“Christ is Come” by Big Daddy Weave
This song has already received tons of airplay and isn’t really just for Christmas. It will probably become a new worship standard and it is undeniably catchy!
“Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella,” by Downhere
Can’t even remember the last time I heard this song, but I have always liked it and this is a great contemporary version of the tune. In fact, most of
“Let all Mortal Flesh” by Bifrost Arts
Haunting yet melodic, Bifrost Arts latest endeavor ” Salvation is created” may not be for everyone but it is an intriguing mix of indie pop and sacred music. This particular version of this scared classic is especially mesmerizing.
