With Beliefnet’s annual Most Inspiring Person of the Year feature in full swing, I thought I’d take a moment to talk about the celebrities (and in some cases, I use that term very loosely) who’ve disgusted me over the year.
Let me know your thoughts in the comments box below.
Chris Brown
What more can be said about this disgraceful woman-beater? There are no excuses for what he did, and although he has publically asked ex-girlfriend Rihanna to forgive him for smashing her face in, I still wish Tiger Woods’ golf-club-wielding wife Elin was around when Brown decided to be a tough guy.
Carrie Prejean
I’m not including the ex Miss California on this list because of her position on gay marriage (she’s entitled to her opinion), but if you’re going to play like you’re a good Christian role model, don’t act like a diva, and don’t make a sex tape. Mmm kay?
Kanye West
When the President of the United States calls you a “jackass” in public that speaks volumes about your character. This narcissistic (and in my opinion, talentless) singer couldn’t let rising star Taylor Swift have her moment in the spotlight after winning the “Best Female Video” at the Video Music Awards. As she began her acceptance speech he interrupted her, took the mic, and proclaimed his thoughts on who should have won the award instead. Afterwards he said he planned to go to India on a Hindu retreat to clear his head and gain some perspective on his life. No word on if he actually did this, though my “sources” say he’s still a jerk.
Christian Louboutin
Seriously, Mr. Big Time Designer, do you really think that Barbie has fat ankles? Because if you do, you just gave a an even bigger complex to young (and old) Barbie fans who have been shown for years–through their dolls– that their bodies are not the right proportion. Also, if she really did have cankles, then how come when I was a kid I was able to chew through them as if they were pencil erasers?
Octomom Nadya Suleman
The Angelina Jolie-obsessed mom of 14 has made a hobby out of having children. Suleman, who gave birth to octuplets in January, couldn’t afford the children she already had but somehow was able to afford In Vitro fertilization. Up until recently, she provided for her children through public assistance (she claims to be off it now) and “donations” to her website.
Spedi (Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag)
Your behavior–the way you talk to people, the way you act, your sense of entitlement for doing and being absolutely nothing–is why you were considered for this list. Your book, “How to Be Famous” guaranteed your placement.
Jeremy Piven
I’m a strong believer that when you commit to something, you follow through with it. But Pivan–who often portrays jerks on the big and small screen— seemed to channel his fictional characters last fall as he starred in Broadways “Speed-the-Plow.” After a short run, he suddenly dropped out of the production claiming that he had mercury poisoning from eating too much fish, in what would become known as “Fishgate.” Of course, his “illness” would have been an acceptable excuse to quit had Pivan not been partying it up around town the whole time and his head-butting with the show’s cast and crew during the production was not so well known (making it pretty obvious he was looking for a reason to leave). This year Pivan was taken to court by the show’s producers and this summer, in what was a travesty of justice, was found not guilty of violating his contract.
Joe Jackson
If shady had a face, it would be the spitting image of Michael Jackson’s father. Aside from the allegations from a number of his children (including the late singer) that he physically and mentally abused them, he most recently is in a public battle with his family over Michael’s estate. Fighting over money should be the last thing on the mind of a parent who’s just lost a child, but apparently not for Joe.
Jon Gosselin
When you have 8 kids and a popular reality show, chances are people are going to recognize you when you go to a bar–especially when you’re with a woman who isn’t your wife. It’s appalling when anyone cheats on their spouse or significant other (I’m also talking to you too, Tiger and Dave) but it’s also just plain stupid when your famous and think you can actually get away with it. (See exclusive Jon Gosselin video interview here on Beliefnet)
Roman Polanski
Evading the law (for over 30 years no less) is indeed uninspiring. The alleged crimes he’s been indicted on–various sex charges–are even more despicable. Although the Oscar-winning director was finally captured by authorities in September, he was just released on bail and is now under house arrest in Switzerland. Let’s hope he does the right thing and doesn’t flee again.
Who do you think is the most uninspiring celebrity of the year?

Good choice. Adding the White House party crashers would be another addition

I canNOT believe you put Jon in there and not Kate. This woman single-handedly ruined her husband and her children’s lives. Nothing was ever good enough for her.She complained through episode after episode while standing in a house that was practically given to her, weeks on the road talking about herself. Now she is whining because she can’t afford to live? She has a bank account with six figures in it somewhere. Before we condemn Jon, let us not forget all the times he tried to insert practicality into their life while she ranted, interrupted him, rolled her eyes, etc. The tirade over Jon not using the coupon says it all!

Um – all of them!!!! And add Kate Gosselin too!!!

Lindsay Lohan. Maybe this is tired because of her constant flings and partying, but in September, she took her 15 year old sister into night clubs every night to party. Let’s see if Ali grows up adjusted or warped.

I would like to add someone I used to truly admire but now has been put on the list…ALICIA KEYS!!! We all make mistakes but usually we can regroup before taking it too far. She openly, blatantly and un- ashamedly is in a relationship with her married manager. As if we don’t have enough problems being black and women in America, we have to have another low life portrayal of women like this!??! God help us all, is my prayer!!!

Lady GaGa! I despise this woman! One of the most untalented people in the universe! How did she get famous but become a cheap, untalented version of Madonna! Madonna can still outperform her in her sleep! She really went over the line when she met the Queen dressed as though she had attended Satan’s birthday party! When her face is shown in the audience when other more talented performers are on stage, she gives a somber, stone faced expression of jealousy! I hate Lady Gag Gag!!!

I am just appalled at the way men and women who are in the spotlight and in front of a host of children who look to the stars to see how they live and what they do, etc. If you are in the spotlight, you must be someone that sends the right message to the youth of this nation. Shame on Dave and Tiger (espically Tiger who was raised right) for how little they thought of their wifes, and in Tigers case his children also. Learn to keep it in your pants. We all have moments in our lives when we are in a situation where things could get out of hand—put the brakes on hard and run in the other direction.

Pat Robertson! How can anyone be such an Idiot? This is what he said:
How can we rule that polygamy is illegal when you say that homosexual marriage is legal. What is it about polygamy that’s different? Well, polygamy was outlawed because it was considered immoral according to biblical standards. But if we take biblical standards away in homosexuality, what about the other? And what about bestiality and ultimately what about child molestation and pedophilia? How can we criminalize these things and at the same time have constitutional amendments allowing same-sex marriage among homosexuals. You mark my words, this is just the beginning in a long downward slide in relation to all the things that we consider to be abhorrent.

Jack and Rexela Van Impe
These two take the “I’m an Idiot” award this year:
Who reports that U.S. interstate highway signs are coded to let U.N. troops know where to attack in order to usher in a one-world government? (Jack & Rexela Van Impe)
Who claims U.N troops are currently hiding out in U.S. national parks? (Jack & Rexela Van Impe)

You call him disgraceful person but then say Tiger Woods Wife was justified in beating him. Why is it because she is a woman or white when is it okay to hit someone else. want do you want from him? do you want him to get help so it dont happen again or to ruin his life so it will happen again.Tell me this if you made a mistake should we forgive you? He who without sin cast the the frist stone can you even bend down to pick up one? words hurt to and you are speaking to millons on a uplifting site how about uplift!!!!! Thank You

how is it possible for a site that is supposed to be uplifting and spiritual, that so much venom is allowed to spill forth? have we forgotten that each and every one of these people is human and apt to make mistakes (some colossal). two quotes come to mind “to err is human, to forgive is divine.” and “judge not lest you be judged”. in this, the holiday season, we should be striving to improve our world, not sullying it with petty meanness and judgement. I wish all that were mentioned in the article the best, in hopes that they recognize what they did wrong and strive to make things right.

I agree with Jacquline about what Tiger Woods. How can you call Chris Brown a women beater and then say that Wood’s wife is somehow a super hero. Get a grip! I am glad that GOD forgives us of are sins because if it weren’t for him, the perfect people of the world like you would condemn us to hell in a hand basket. By the way, Chris Brown made a hughe mistake but if you think about it, he needs help not condemnation. Battery is what he saw growing up, this does not excuse it but it does make us understand it a little more. As far as Kanye West is concerned, you can stay off of him. Regardless of what you think is talent, obviously there are millions who do think he has talent. Did he make a mistake by interrupting Taylor Swift, yes. Did he apologize, yes. Let sleeping dogs lye please. Kanye is simply passionate about his work. As for the spiritual retreat, I think it’s a good idea. I believe this year marks the one year anniversay that he lost the only role model he has ever known(his mother).
It still continues to amaze me when people acknowleges what our president said only if he critizes our people, other than that they don’t give a hoot about what the president says. That is proven by all of the constant attacking the president gets on a daily basis.

I think that if these people werent famous, what they did wouldnt be such a big deal. I agree that all of the people listed were wrong in their actions, but all we do is feed into the negativity whenwe keep rehashing what they did.

Are we acting as Christians by passing judgment on others? We are all human. We are all sinners and by that I mean no one has the right to judge another…they may not be right in their actions, but enough with the negative thinking. 4:8 people….read it, know it, buy the book the 4:8 Project it will do all of us good.
