The Huffington Post is helping Lindsay Lohan with some publicity by covering her posing as Jesus on the cover of Purple Magazine. Now, I’d never heard of Purple Magazine until today, and I’ve read The Huffington Post a few times, but I do know a few things about Jesus. And the one which bothers me the most is this: in our culture, there can be more buzz about who quotes Jesus, makes movies about Jesus or poses as Jesus than when His words are simply relayed for us to consider.
That said, if someone is going to pose as Jesus, I’m sure there are many who’d say it shouldn’t be Lindsay Lohan any more than they’d think Hillary Rodham Clinton should have been the keynote speaker at this year’s President’s Prayer Breakfast. I’m wondering, though, who people think it should be.
Perhaps it should be Rick Warren. The author of “The Purpose-Driven Life” has sold more copies of that book than any human author in history.
Perhaps it should be Jerry Jenkins and Tim LaHaye, whose “Left Behind” series chronicled the timeline of how the real Jesus will come back.
Perhaps it should be Barack Obama, the first African-American President of the United States, or George W. Bush, the President most outspoken about his faith since Jimmy Carter. Or perhaps it should be Mr. Carter, who builds homes for the homeless while <a href="http://www.thecartercenter.com/ target="_blank"seeking world peace.
Perhaps it should be Madonna, another iconic figure, whose “Like a Prayer” is one of the most enduring pop images of the video era. Or Mel Gibson, whose “The Passion of the Christ” is one of the most Christ-centered images of the film era.
Or perhaps it should be one of the many relief workers currently helping tireless in Haiti, trying to bring life–or at least a fighting shot at it–to the people of that ravaged country.
Today, the message of Jesus is at a crossroads in our culture. When His words are proclaimed they usually stay somewhere outside of our cultural media. When the verse numbers of His writings are worn by football players, they generate controversy. When images of His actions are imitated–as in Lohan’s pose–it makes headlines. Religious people may criticize it as a violation. Media watchdogs may dispute its significance. In the end, I think I’m glad for anything that reminds people of Jesus, especially the gift of His actions on the cross.
Even if the person posing wouldn’t be my first pick!

In regards to Lindsay Lohan I have to wonder, does this young one have NO ONE in her life that gives her good advice? It seems like someone at some point would have said “Okay, you’ve had enough controversial and negative publicity… this is NOT a good move.”

I’m disgusted by this! Lindsay Lohan is a Train Wreck waiting to happen as we all know. However she has no right to pose as Christ or anyone for that matter! Christ was a gift to the world not to be mocked. This is morbid and I find offensive. Shame on you Lindsay and for the publishers of this Fashion Magazine. Why don’t you look for more “ORIGINAL” ideas rather prying on something that is held sacred by millions of people. Good Luck to Lindsay and her vastly sinking career.

Lindsay Lohan was raised Catholic. I myself am a Presbyterian and I didn’t find it offensive because of her wearing a white dress which reminded me of Paul’s statement that we die in sin but because we are in Christ and He has risen, we are risen with Him. Her mother found it angelic. Perhaps I’m prejudice because I’m a Lindsay fan.

I agree with Joshua. And..by the way…the Pharisees were reminded of Jesus ALL THE TIME when He was in their presence (and even when He was not in their presence)but you sure didn’t see any of them repenting, did you? Quite the contrary, Jesus told them they followed their father the devil, not Abraham. I don’t think that my Father, God, is going to like how you think it’s okay that His Precious Son was represented by that filth Lohan. It’s like the desecration of abomination that stands in the Holy place. Well, I am sure you can explain it to Him when you see Him.
No one should pose as Jesus…except Jesus. And those of us who are real Christians know that it is God’s work within us that brings fruit and makes us like Christ. No one can take credit for His work.
Some people just don’t get it. They parade around with their false piety and think they are spiritually minded, when they are really spiritually dead.

LL is on a crash and burn mission. she basqed in the glory of stardom. she has all the material things that life has to offer. she wants more. more what? she even went gay thinking that was the way to eternal happiness. she found out that it wasn’t the answer. she has made a fool of herself too many times to count. she thought that she was invincible. she showed up to work whenever she wanted paying no attention to rules and regulations. now she is in a position where noone wants or cares about her talent. actors come a dime a dozen. this party girl is partied out. she is useless. not even her partygirlfriends party with her. if she doesn’t get her act together she will become a washed up hasbeen. the socalled friends that she has will eventually fade when her money runs out. now she’s posing as jesus? only jesus can help her. will someone please tell firecrotch to sit down and don’t come back till she’s 30. that should be enough time to grow up. hopefully it won’t be too late for a comeback
