It seems like images of Jesus and other holy figures have been appearing on all kinds of food lately–grilled cheese, pierogies, tortillas, just to name a few.
Which is why I was skeptical, yet intrigued, when I received a press release yesterday from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) claiming that a member spotted an image of Jesus in another food product–seitan (pronounced “satan”–which is kind of ironic, no?), the vegan “wheat meat.”
The member, who sent the email and photo to PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk, wished to remain anonymous, said he/she found the image as he/she was preparing to grill up the wheat gluten, removing it from some plastic wrapping.
According to the press release the member wrote:
“I couldn’t beleive [sic] what I saw! Its [sic] Jesus on the cross! I was showing it to my room mates and one of them said, “You’re all about PETA, send it to them!”…Thought it was a real sign for this image of Jesus to appear in my peaceful vegan meal–He was the one who said “Thou shall not kill” and I know He would be against bloody killing of animals in slaughter houses.
I hope this picture of Jesus in my seitan lifts your spirits and encourages you to keep up the good work.”
So what do you think? Genuine Jesus or publicity hoax?

That’s cool that the person found Jesus in seitan. Today’s meat, egg and dairy factory farms are the complete opposite of what Jesus taught: kindness for all beings

Holla! So cool! Anyone who believes in compassion should give a big “eff you” to the factory farming industry, where animals are castrated without painkillers, and have their throats slit while they’re conscious. If you believe in compassion, go vegan.

That’s awesome! I think Jesus would totally support eating seitan – it’s kind, cruelty-free, healthy, and delicious!

Get behind me Seitan!

That picture is totally gross looking to me. Jesus? Publicity stunt like all the other “food” Jesus’s.

I think I see him, but this seems to happen quite a bit

Certainly! If one doesn’t see Jesus; wake up!! I’ve seen other food products where people “claim” they see a holy figure; but there’s no denying it here!

I believe. We are in the last of the last days and God is trying to encourage “people” and His people in every way possible. First to give hope and to call for salvation for the dying and lost. God loves us.

I see Jesus every minute of the day in so many things. I have a huge picture on my bedroom wall of him usually the first thing I see in the am and the last at the pm. Jesus will be with me all of my days 24/7

Do we have a actual picture of Jesus to begin with? How can we know how He looks like, if there is not a single picture of him? I do believe in Him, He is my Savior for sure and that “HE IS”, however, there is no way to describe Him. What people are picturing is an image created by man. Besides, He is not on the cross, for He’s risen. Therefore, He is alive! No, I don’t believe! Praise the Lord!

Most certainly I see my Lord!

Faith is believing without actually seeing. God said if you have faith like a mustard seed and you say to that plant be up rooted from my house to my neighbor’s house and it shall be done ;that is faith .

Yes, I see a reminder of all that Christ gave for us. I also see the works of God and Christ all around me every day. Everything we see is a gift from God.
