Yes, yes, yes: despite the fact that I think HBO’s smash hit series ‘True Blood’ is as depraved as it gets, which is not exactly up my alley, I still keep watching it. It might be the train wreck effect the show has on me–it’s so out of control and horrifying I almost can’t tear myself away.
Then there’s the eye roll factor: could this season get any more ‘Twilight’? (Well, except for all the hardcore sex and vulgar language.)
SPOILER ALERT
So we are full on into the werewolves vs. vampires scenario on ‘True Blood’ at the moment–sound familiar? I know! Gee. That happens in Twilight. And even more Twilight-y, is the fact that Vampire Bill, has just dumped human-love-of-his-life Sookie Stackhouse and dumped her hard. Can you guess why? Well, because it’s just too dangerous for her to be in love with a vampire plus she should just find a good human to have a nice human life–something Bill can’t ever give to her. Sookie is utterly unprepared for this turnabout in her love life and is devastated. Doesn’t that sound like a certain scene in “New Moon”? Oh, and then there’s the part how Bill’s disappearance and breakup sends her straight into the arms of….wait for it….did you already guess? A werewolf! And one with great abs too.
While this story line was wonderful fun for me when I read the four “Twilight” books, I don’t need to see it redone again and again, just with more sex. I seriously need to quit this show. It has no redeeming value whatsoever at this point. Yet still, I watch…

Just so you know, Twilight is a watered down version of Buffy. Trueblood is the Truth.

“True Blood” in it’s early incarnation as the “Southern Vampire Mysteries” was five books into the series when “Twilight” was first published. I hardly think True Blood is copying a plot line from Twilight as you seem to be implying, possibly the other way around. It is simply loosely following the books it is based on and frankly, in my opinion, doing it better than Twilight ever could. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of both- the whole genre actually- but I find many more redeeming qualities to True Blood than I do to Twilight. At least Sookie is somewhat of a model of a young, strong, independent woman unlike Bella who literally can barely function without her vampire boyfriend and has no logical basis what-so-ever to make the decisions about her life and her future that she does. You may be offended by the sex, violence, and language in True Blood as compared to Twilight but frankly, True Blood depicts more accurately how these situations would unfold. I mean, we ARE talking vampires here. I hardly think a 1,000 vampire would care about censoring his language when he EATS PEOPLE on a nightly basis. I suggest if True Blood’s honest raunchiness gets to you, just go read the books they’re a little lighter.

Not sure you have your timelines straight here but The Sookie Stackhouse novels/Southern Vampire sereies brought to life on the screen as True Blood existed BEFORE Twilight.
If anything Twilight is a cutesy teeny bopper knockoff.

I think it is extremely funny that people continue to imply that True Blood is the rip off of Twilight. I mean seriously. Do a Google search and check the publication dates. 2 minutes of “research” will show you that The Southern Vampire Mysteries, the story that True Blood draws from, is 4 years older than Twilight. Get your facts straight before you post things like this, it is just embarrassing to yourself when you don’t.

Twilight is an utter rip of another series, and a poor impersonation at that, centered on a teenager who fell in love with a vampire called The Vampire Diaries which is also now a TV show. It’s PG, if you are bothered by True Blood and want Twilighty romance, watch that. True Blood gets a little closer to the fact that vampires are also actually monsters not this cutesy lover myth that we’ve made them into. Buffy was meant to be camp, never serious. True Blood is one of the more decent takes on vampires I’ve seen lately, still not as good as I’d hope. But if the raunchiness of this bothers you, don’t ever pick up any Laura K or other “real” vampire novels geared towards an adult woman.

Twilight and True Blood are both stomach-churning. In the case of True Blood, it’s intentional, with lots of gore and some really demented sex scenes.
In the case of Twilight, the barf factor comes from the writing, and is completely unintentional. Bella is the most uninteresting person on earth, a woman with no identity beyond that of her boyfriends. And her creepy vampfriend (forget his name) is a classic abuser, constantly attempting to cut Bella off from her other friends and control her every move. It amazes me that adult women don’t see this, and write reviews encouraging young girls to consume this demonic crap.

I agree, it is getting dull to watch, but I feel that I have invested too much time into this show to stop watching it now. It’s really quite monotonous and boring.

I agree with an earlier comment, The Southern Vampire Mysteries A.K.A. the TRUE BLOOD books started before “twilight.” If anything, Stephanie whatsherface stole from Charlaine Harris, not the other way around. Get your facts straight.
