When I posted the news regarding actor Neal McDonough’s firing from ABC’s drama “Scoundrels” – allegedly for not doing a sex scene- I predicted that the controversy would help his career and Idol Chatter readers had a lot of opinions about the topic. However,it seems I was right because one of my favorite Hollywood insiders – Nikki FInke – reports that McDonough is developing a series for Starz called ” Vigilante Priest.”
The premise is that McDonough will play an ex-cop turned priest who wants to clean up crime in L.A.. McDonough will develop it with the help of some former “Law and Order ” folks and will be listed as a co-creator so it seems McDonough is making sure he will have control of the material he is acting in this time.
However, I can’t help but reflect on how drama series about priests have not had a great track record in the past so I wonder how this will be received. Then again, as I said in my previous post, McDonough seems to be shrewedly attempting to gain grassroots support as an actor for his moral stance and is possibly hoping it will help with future projects like this one.
So will you tune in as a show of support for McDonough?

He’s OK. I only seen him in ensemble pieces like Band of Brothers, or playing the bad guy in Timeline. I think the network saw an actor who didn’t fit the show. The man has rarely carried a series and I think the sex scene is an angle.
However if he was fired due to a sex scene, why is developing a series for Starz? This is the same network producing Spartacus: Blood and Sand making 300, Rome, and True Blood look like Disney films by comparison.
