“The Ten Commandments” Epic 6 Disc Blu-ray Gift Set, FREE

posted by Evan Derrick

UPDATE: This giveaway is now over. Congratulations to Joshua G. and Lydia B. who each received a copy of “The Ten Commandments” on Blu-Ray, and uber-congratulations to Chris Z. who will be receiving the epic 6-disc gift set to end all gift sets. Enjoy Charlton Heston and the parting of the Red Sea! And thanks to all the Idol Chatter readers who entered. Don’t worry, there are more giveaways on the horizon!

“The Ten Commandments” was labeled ‘the greatest event in motion picture history’ when it came out in 1956. Now, 55 years later, it’s coming to Blu-ray (on Tuesday, March 29th) and we have a bunch of free copies to give away to our readers, including one copy of the grand 6 Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo Gift Set that you see in the image above. I mean look at it: it features an image of the Red Sea that parts when you open the box! Who doesn’t want that?

All you have to do is leave a comment on this post and include a real email address (don’t worry, your email will be kept private and will ONLY be used to notify you if you win). Here’s the skinny on what comes in the epic gift set to end all gift sets:

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS Blu-ray/DVD Combo gift set comes packaged in a stunning limited edition box featuring an image of the Red Sea that parts when the box is opened to reveal two tablets, which encase all six discs in the set. The set also includes a commemorative photo and archive book, a new 75-minute, in-depth documentary about the film and its impact, original costume sketches, the 1923 silent film The Ten Commandments (also available for the first time on Blu-ray), international premiere photos, production notes from Cecil B. DeMille, correspondence from Charlton Heston, feature commentary and more.

In addition to that, we’re also giving away two copies of the 2 disc Blu-ray edition. So that’s 3 chances to win, and all you have to do is write one little comment! We’ll announce the winners a week from today on Monday, April 4th. Oh, and this is only open to residents of US and Canada, unfortunately.

Good luck!

It was awe inspiring in 1956 and has through the years has continued to influence people to the richness of the film, For me the remarkable theme is the Heavenly Father is always with us and loves us even when fail to realize His Presence. And the amazing thing is that message is is as true today as it was when the picture was first made. Funny how a secular movie can portray the message of the Bible and God, I would really love to have the movie but trust in the Spirit that it wll be won by someone who needs the assurance of God’s love in their lives,

Always loved “The Ten Commandments” this movie makes you realize that there is a God. He is always with us 24/7 from the day we are born till the day we die. People think that he is only with us when we need him… that’s all wrong he is here right now in our presence. Some people are waiting for Jesus to come when he is in our hearts. People open your eyes and realize that he is here. His presence is a light that we shine beyond your dreams. Love always your Sister in Christ. Everyone have a Blessed Easter… Smile Jesus Loves You!

I hope each yr. a new generation watches this movie with their family & enjoys the movie not only for the breathtaking special effects. I hope that they really take the theme of the movie to heart & mom’s & dad’s & families will discuss what the movie means to them, their family, & their faith in GOD! This was THE family tradition when it was played on T.V. & as a child, it really put the fear of “THE LAWS” in me so much that I cried & confessed to my mother about stealing & eating pear @ the supermarket! (She hugged me & told me to NOW confess to the RIGHT One ;-) !). When I got older, got a copy for myself & kept the tradition w/ my nephew & niece. It would be an absolute HONOR to receive this wonderful offer! But, even if I don’t get a free copy, I’ll still keep this tradition going b/c, this is a VERY crucial message, a true masterpiece & a treasure, no matter WHAT the cost :-) !

This preview was offered to the clergy! It was the second movie I had ever seen at a theater (the first having been a black & white of Martin Luther). I still remember the big screen and magnificent color. I do remember being so impressed by the acting of Mr. Heston I do not remember if there where subtiles in Spanish). The “Ten Commandment: on 2 tables of stone were “written with the finger of God”. They became the basis of the Hebrew Law. Four of them have to do with “our attitude toward God.”; Six with “our attitude toward our fellowman.”

Later Jesus condensed them into two: “Thou shalt Love the Lord thy God with All thy Heart & Soul & Strength & Mind and Thy Neighbor as Thyself.” Reverence for God is the basis of the Ten Commandments. Jesus considered it the elemental quality in man’s approach to God & made it the first petition to the Lord’s Prayer: “Hallowed (Holy) be Thy Name.”

What a priviledge it would be to own this “Ten Commandments” Epic 6 disc Blue-ray Gift Set to share them with my family and friends!

It would be one of the greatest gifts one could possibly receive for Easter. It would be a treasured gift for any family to review with their love ones no matter what their age group would be. So, give us an opportunity (my family along with me) an amazing experience of joy that this movie can bring to us all for many years to come. DeMille did an outstanding job of directing as well as making opening comments on this film. I live my life by God’s commandments to the best of my ability. This movie of epic proportion should be a positive motivating influence on anyone who watches and believes that there is a God. I have this movie on VHS, but as we all know VCR’s are passe’. It would truly be a blessing if I were to win this gift set. I will be fervently praying to be a winner. I first saw the 10 Commandments when I was studying for my Holy Communion. I love watching it and it always strenghthens my heart and faith to never forget that the Lord Almighty God never forsakes me. The month of December I have lost 3 most loved people in my life. My Grandmother Josephine, My Father Oscar, and my Best Friend Joelaine. And most recently Ms. Teena Marie who I met and she prayed with me that I wouldnt suffer without my dad Oscar and my Grandma, and my best friend Joelaine. Her music was so soothing, and made me stronger as to believe that I will see my loved ones again in paradise. Rest in Peace Teena and the world will love your daughter Alia Rose and her singing voice will be strong and spiritual like your voice.
I wish for the DVD to enjoy with my 2 grandsons Isaiah and Legacy to show them from the beginning that the Lord is first in the heart and lives. Thank you for the chance to enter,

The greatest movie of all times for me, it helped open my eyes and put my doubts aside. As a younger person i grew up with strong believers in the Bible which sometimes could make me wonder. Was it just my grand and great grandmother trying to make me see the error of living a sinful life. But when i saw that movie and how the King was brought to his knees when he lost the son he worshiped and the slaves he had treated so badly. The real eye opener came at the parting of the Red Sea, from that Sunday until today i never made fun other anyone’s beliefs in the Bible. Now a grandma myself i tell my grands about that movie and that Bible story with hopes that one day an experience will touch them as that movie touched me..

In today’s jargon, the “Perfect 10″ represents that which we believe to be the Best of the Best….something to strive for ….. something we would like to have as our own.
Only God can create a “perfect 10″ and He did so when he gave us the 10 commandments…..I thank Him that He is perfect in every way, and has provided for us the rules that allow us to strive for perfection thru His son, and thru His perfect wisdom.
Praise God for His 10 Commandments, and thank those who have created a beautiful movie that allows us to gain knowledge by receiving a renewed vision of His rules to live by.

So the movie is 55 years old already. I was not even in my teens when I first viewed it. Yet, without the convenience of the use of today’s technology in movie-making, the movie can hold unto itself in comparison to the movies of today. The “Ten Commandments” movie is a milestone in itself just as the tablets were when Moses brought them down from Mt Sinai.

What an epic movie. There has been none since it was made in 1956 to really compare. This movie set the standard for epic dramas to come. It’s lessons of what greed, self-worship, and disobedience will do for you are lessons that can be related to thru the ages. This account of Moses and his struggles come to life in this film and the moral lessons it entails still stand strong to this day.

The Ten Commandments is a very inspiring film, that added flavour to holidays such as Christmas and Easter (although my family enjoys it anytime). Some of the events (such as the plagues)aren’t mentioned/demonstrated in the feature, but gives a clear visual of the Bible accounts, and how real/dramatic it was for those individuals that actually experienced it. Unlike the re-enactment of Noah’s Ark, which depicted Noah and his family as immoral, drunks and children of darkness. To add this to my collection of inspirational viewing (at my discretion) would be awesome.

When I was a child, I loved watching this movie and would love to have for myself as well as my 5 grandchildren. I pray and hope that my children would turn back along with me and they loved this movie when they were growing up. If I were to be blessed with winning, I would play this on the next regular Sunday dinner that we all have together. Thank you for giving us all this chance to see the miracles and blessings that only God can make happen.

Our father not only created us all but he wrote us what many call a letter. He was also a book writer and his own Publisher. The book he wrote was titled “Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth” But the publisher said that was to long of a title to put on the cover, so our father chose a shorter title it was changed to “BIBLE”. This book is today called a letter to us from our father. It has our history, the basic rules of proper diet, proper way to live with others, and basic laws to live by, proper consequences for breaking these laws.
I believe the movie ” Ten Commandments” shows us How our father treats those who do not follow those laws and how he treats people who live by every word of his letter to us, or his book given to us.
MY life has had great changes because of this movie ,And I would love to have this movie in high tech. advancement.

Just remember one thing Jesus is always the answer to whatever you are going thru. Lord bless each one of you.

I watched this movie when it first came out and now I watch it on cable TV every year at Easter time. As I watch, the Bible becomes alive as Moses and all the ancient biblical characters re-enact the events in our history as Christians. Each scenery is exquisite: Moses facing God in the burning bush, the parting of the Red Sea as the Israelites cross it on their way to the Promised Land, the 10 Commandments being carved in the stones…..These are a few samples of the magnificent portrayal of God’s power and love for us all. Thank God for giving Cecile B DeMille and his associates the wisdom to create this greatest movie of all time. We at least have a visual idea of a part of our history.

The last time I saw this epic was with a teacher friend and his parents…in Toyama, Japan, in 1993. It had a soundtrack in English, but with Japanese kanji surtitles. My friend, Hiro, and I were exchange teachers: he had been to my classroom in Oklahoma and I to his in Toyama, and he was asking me to critique the scriptural accuracy of the film. Intimidated I was, but we had a great discussion and his mother and dad (who spoke no English, and I no Japanese) asked lots of questions. What a splendid experience that was!

My name is Hubert C Maxwell and I am residing with my family in London UK. I must reiterate that the film “The Ten Commandments” by Cecil B DeMille was an epic that is yet to be surpassed in terms of directing, acting, producting, editing, music, sound effects as the list goes on.
I was in Sierra Leone in West Africa when the film reached that part of the world. I was preparing for my Common Entrance Examination to get into secondary school. I am talking about the early 1960′s and after the Independence from British Colonial Rule of 1961, of which my country will be celebrating 50th Independent Anniversary in April 2011.
I had the opportunity of accompanying my parents to watch the film with so much enthusiasm. Being taught Religious Knowledge in School as well as at Sunday School in Church brought the captivating story to me so vividly.
Religious Knowledge was not part of the curriculum for the Common Entrance Examination, but that story in the Bible formed an important milestone in the history of the Bible, and left a lasting impression on my mind.
To conclude, I am of the opinion that not much has changed since biblical times, and for that matter after many countries gained independence from their colonial past, taking into consideration the events during the past couple of months. There are indeed still stubborn rulers who do not listen to the voice of the people who are the voice of God.

I mean, we are talking about the holy scripture being brought to the screen here. Mr.Heston was and still remains one of my all-time favorite character actors (RIP). I remember watching the Ten Commandments as a little kid and was in total awe! of the film and the story that was taken from the bible. The film helped play a major role in my life and helped cause me to think about my life, the love and power of GOD, even as a little kid. Fast forward to the age of sixteen. That is when I first gave my heart to the Lord Jesus Christ and asked him to forgive me of all my sins and accepted him as my Lord and savior. I thank him for all his love and understanding, his mercy and grace. And thanks, in part, to “The Ten Commandments”, a truly timeless classic! The film helped plant a seed within my heart at a young age, about the love and goodness of GOD and also the consequences, not listening to him when he speaks to us. I thank GOD that I listened to him and through his love, I continue to strive to be a better person, daily. Winning the Ten Commandments would truly be a blessing for me and my family. You cannot get any better than this when it comes to bible oriented cinema. Thanks for the opportunity to be in with a chance at winning this magnificent giveaway!

The greatest thing about the ten commandment’s movie, is that it’s not fiction !, it really did happened in the pass !,it’s ancient history (his-story )and its been apart of our culture’s with the isrealite’s for nearly 4000 year’s ! and for the western world for nearly two thousand year’s since the stoneing of steven and the start of the spreading of the gospel of jesus christ by the deciple’s in A.D 34, even in our modern time’s here !,its still impact our live’s greatly, the movie ! “THE TEN COMMANDMENT” was and still is a great movie that seem’s to be timeless !,because the very precept’s of that account and the events, in the book of exodus 20:1-17 of the holy bible, were about the TEN MORAL LAW’S of GOD HIMSELF !,given to mankind by GOD HIMSELF ! to follow for all generation’s to come !,more over the TEN COMMANDMENT’S are so logical and neccessary to keep and abide by even by todays modern standards!,so as to prevent us from getting in trouble with others and ourselves, and creating problem’s with GOD AND MAN !,( first 4 =GOD.+ second 6=man=total.10)even in today’s modern time’s our societie’s needs these law’s to prevent disorderliness, conflicts and corruption’s from destroying any civilized societie’s,most people do not keep all of the ten commandment’s holy, unfortunately for them, but in one form or another different people and different culture’s around the world have to keep even some of them ,to prevent choas in any society, and yes those of them that keeps all ten commandment’s,bennefits the most !,yes please read(PSALM’S19:7-11), the “TEN COMMANDMENT’S” movie with charlton heston is a very great movie to be seen over and over again ! because it sorta brings back to life again a very significant point in time, of a great truth’s of our pass history that was only imagined in our mind’s up to that time !,the history of man,and what make’s this movie so valid and successful was not only it’s high quality, special effects and great actors and big world wide record box office smashing hit at the time !,but also because the events of it’s story are very much apart of our live’s today!, as they are so personally and spiritually and morally and culturally and even politically connected to our live’s today as christian’s and jew’s !,and even people of other religion’s aswell ,yes this is just not another movie !,especially when it has been so well made, and entertaining aswell !,and yes i can’t help but wonder! if the CREATOR GOD HIMSELF !,did not have apart in its success too !. yes contrary to most us in our thinking ! and the editing of the end of the movie,”THE END”,well it turn’s out that the story continue’s with us today and with the future !,for its the story of GOOD OVERCOMING evil in the final end of this first VOLUME.1(FALLEN WORLD,PLANET EARTH) OF THE ETERNAL VOLUME’S YET TO COME IN THE VAST LIBRARY OF THE UNIVERSE,but this time to come starting with VOLUME.2,page .1 will be a new and different world of eternal peace and righteousness and happiness joy and prosperitie’s and everlasting life with JESUS CHRIST THE SON OF GOD ! ,who by the way say’s !,IF YOU LOVE ME KEEP MY COMMANDMENT’S.(JOHN.14:12-17). ps.want more great storie’s?,the holy bible is full of them !.

As a child, the Ten Commandments gave me a visual of the words I read and was taught by my grandparents, parents, aunts & uncles. The Bible is full of these stories. However, this one by far marks the beginning of the Bible coming to television. Amazing! I’d love to have this set to share it my children and their children’s children. Thanks, Beliefnet.com, for this opportunity!

It’s too bad that we don’t get to see movies made like this anymore. The most recent ones that I remember in this genre are “The Kingdom of Heaven” and “Amazing Grace”! That would be great if people could and would take notice of how ,as shown in “The Kingdom of Heaven”, everyone, mostly got along. At least the Christian king and the Muslim leader attempted to work together. There will be those extremists and materialistic individuals who will love mammon and not their chosen God!!!

A wonderful epic movie! I show clips from this movie to my eighth grade students each year when we study the history of the Hebrews.
Although this movie is an older one the students, even those without a biblical background, are able to grasp and discuss the events surrouning the exodus and the importance of the Ten Commandments. I do not have to be concerned about language or nudity in this movie and because it is historically true, I don’t have to worry about showing it in a secular classroom. The students really enjoy it and we agree why this movie is considered a classic.
