Everyone is talking about the 7 year old who has collected $240,000 to help the people of Haiti.

Charlie Simpson of West London had hoped to raise a fraction of that by cycling five miles around a local park. His sponsored ride, for UNICEF’s earthquake appeal, ended up raising $240,000 (that’s £150,000).

“I want to do a sponsored bike ride for Haiti because there was a big earthquake and loads of people have lost their lives,” said Simpson on his JustGiving page, a fundraising site that helped launch his efforts. “I want to make some money to buy food, water and tents for everyone in Haiti.”

Seek and ye shall find, or receive, in this case. That request got the donations pouring in. Yesterday the number was $160,000 and after exposure on CNN International leaped another $80,000 today.
