Today at 2:00 pm, special stamps that support adoption for shelter pets officially go on sale at your local post office and on StampsToTheRescue.com. The ten “Animal Rescue: Adopt a Shelter Pet” stamps showcase 5 shelter cats and 5 shelter dogs that have been adopted and given homes.
Each year, millions of cats and dogs are brought to shelters, but most are euthanized when they aren’t adopted. To promote awareness of this issue and to encourage people to either volunteer or adopt pets at their local animal shelters, the “Stamps to the Rescue” campaign was created by the US Postal Service with support from Ellen DeGeneres (pet owner and pet advocate) and Halo: Purely for Pets (a holistic pet care organization co-owned by DeGeneres).
Halo will also use the money raised from the stamps to provide one million meals to shelter pets across the country. So far, pre-ordered stamps have raised 600,000 meals.
Honor your pet and other animals without homes by picking up a sheet of 20 cute stamps for less than $10!

The Postal Service created the Stamps to the Rescue campaign and the proceeds of the stamps do not go to HALO. The Aniaml Rescue: Adopt a Shelter Pet stamps are the Postal Service’s 2010 social awareness stamp subject. The goal is to raise awareness of the plight of sheltered animals and encourage pet adoption. The Postal Service has been working with Ellen DeGeneres, and pet food company she co-owns, to raise awareness.

Ellen better be careful! Life is like a game of boomerangs. Our thoughts, deeds, and words return to us sooner or later, with astounding accuracy.
Lesson: Aim before you act or this is gonna hurt!
