Karl Rabeder Gives Away Millions Because Money Made Him Unhappy

posted by lbrockway

The Telegraph is reporting that Austrian millionaire Karl Rabeder is giving away every penny of his millions after realizing his riches were making him unhappy. Rabeder says it was hard to give up the trappings of his luxurious lifestyle but he finally found the courage to do it.

“More and more I heard the words: ‘Stop what you are doing now – all this luxury and consumerism – and start your real life’,” he told the Telegraph. “I had the feeling I was working as a slave for things that I did not wish for or need.”

The philanthropist is using his business acumen to sell off his fortune to put it to use for charity. It is reported that the money will go to his microcredit charity, which offers small loans in Latin America and builds development aid strategies to self-employed people in El Salvador, Honduras, Bolivia, Peru, Argentina and Chile.

28 Year Old Evan Muncie Found Alive in Rubble

posted by lbrockway

A miracle was reported from Haiti yesterday when workers cleaning up the wreckage of the market found a 28 year old man — alive.  He was dehydrated and malnourished, but did not appear to have major injuries, other than open injuries and infections in his feet.

It is believed he may have been trapped since the January 12 quake.

He was identified as Evan Muncie. His family told doctors that he sold rice in the market.

You Are So Cute–Must See hoops and yoyo Video

posted by lbrockway

I got this adorable hoops and yoyo video over the weekend from a friend. It is an inspiring self-esteem booster so I wanted to share.
In doing a little more research I discovered that “hoops&yoyo” (spelled in lower case) are animated characters featured on Hallmark cards. They have their own Facebook page and they are in Wikipedia. So hey, if you are looking for something fun for Valentine’s Day, perhaps hoops and yoyo will bring a smile to your loved ones as well.

Check out hoops&yoyo cards on their Hallmark site.

Share Your Videos and Photos with The Parenthood Project

posted by lbrockway

Whether you are still raising rug rats or your kids are fully grown, with kids of their own, we all have something to say about being a parent.
NBC, Ron Howard and Brian Glazer just launched “The Parenthood Project,” a wonderful multimedia opportunity for parents from all walks of life to share our thoughts on parenting–the ups, the downs, all of it!
Here’s the best part: Through the end of February, you get to share your parenthood tale with the world on a designated NBC website. And for every submission, a donation of $20 will be made to Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Family Strengthening Initiative, which provides resources to improve the lives of children, parents and the community. So get ready to share your submission soon, it’s for a great cause!
At the video link below, the ever-likable Ron Howard (bet he is a great dad!) explains The Parenthood Project and encourages people to post their own stories, photos and videos that complete the statement, “Parenthood is…”
Click to see Ron Howard Video.
You can submit photos, videos and text. Some of the recent text submissions include:
*Parenthood is when your children’s’ hopes and dreams become your hopes and dreams.
*Parenthood is keeping them close so they can quietly grow wings to fly on their own.
*Parenthood is both difficult and rewarding at the same time.
And here’s mine: “Parenhood is being there through all ages. At the moment, it means listening lovingly to my son’s ongoing process of trying to figure out if the gal he has his eye on in college is actually interested in him as a friend, or, perhaps, as “more than a friend.”
The Parenthood Project is a unique partnership between NBC and Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The goal is to celebrate and showcase the many facets of family life, so let them know what parenthood means to you.
The project is launching conjunction with the new Ron Howard and Brian Glazer series “Parenthood”, coming to NBC in March. I laughed and cried at this preview video.
Also fun, you can see videos of the stars of the series, including Lauren Graham, and other celebrities, speaking on “Parenhood Is…”
