Webb Simpson has been having some kind of year. He won his first two career PGA tournaments, finished second in two other and narrowly finished second in both the FedEx Cup and money list standings.

To top that off, Simpson qualified to play for the U.S., team at the Presidents Cup in Melbourne, Australia, an event that takes place every other year and pits the best American golfers against the best from all other nations minus Europe.

In four of the rounds that featured pairings going head-to-head, Simpson teamed up with Bubba Watson and recorded an impressive 3-1 record. Simpson, however, dropped his one-on-one battle against South Korean K.T. Kim on the final day of competition.

Simpson, Watson and their 10 teammates were more than strong enough to overcome a late run and took the Presidents Cup with a 19-15 score (only 17 points are actually required to win the Cup).

Earlier this year I spent some talk talking to Simpson about golf, family and faith. We also talked about integrity and how the game has provided him with unique opportunities to do the right thing:

“It’s happened probably 10 times in my life where I had to make certain calls and call penalty shots on myself,” Simpson said. “For me, it’s not as much the nature of the game but the fact that the Holy Spirit is prompting me to call a penalty on myself. Within our own nature, we don’t want to call a penalty on ourselves. We want to see how much we can get away with. That’s been a part of every tough decision I’ve made in golf.”
