Meeting Maharishi (by Gotham Chopra)
One of the more interesting parts of "growing up Chopra," was the range of people my sister and I were exposed to--from celebrities to heads of state to Nobel laureates and all the rest. As a teenager growing up in...
Very nice story which emphazisis the simplicity of the great Master and the innocence of a child who feels in the heart intead of thinking out the mind....love it !!!
Thanks for the very beautiful description of your first encounter with Maharishi. He was my first Guru and I did not meet him but after many years after I had been blessed with his teachings and TM practice. Trascendental meditation (TM) changed my life completeley at an oportune time when myself, my family and my native country were going through very testing times. He was like a beacon of light, reason and hope that kept me a float and later on, protected me for the many years of immigration challenges into the US for which I am also grateful.
It is said in the Indian tradition that when a saint takes Mahasamadhi (leaves his body), his consciousness expands all over the world and we are blessed.
I pray we all be able to enjoy his eternal presence. And that I always remember his example and teachings which were the first very bright light in my life.
Your' comments about being with Maharishi as a young boy was delightful to read and very poignant. I remember seeing your' family and especially you in 1985 at the first Ayurvedic Symposium in Washington D.C. You looked completely befuddled amongst the hundreds of people looking as though you were thinking, "What is all the fuss about?" All blessings to you and your' family...
You should always thank your father for taking you there as not everybody gets this kind of Golden Chance, like wise I was lucky to get down close to few well known gurus in my life, I planned number of times to get close to Maharishi but never made it up. I am sure his real blessings will be with you for you to continue teaching rest of the world.
I was touched also by this very nice story of a wonderful encounter between a child and an 'all-knowing' guru. I always wonder, though.... are little girls ever noticed and interacted with by the 'holy' ones in this culture?
It saddens me to think they are so ignored by those that are so 'enlightened.'
trying to find a listings of all Saints and what they stand for can anyone help me. Roman catholics Saints.
thanking you in advance God Bless tou
Nita
I am interested in the person who did the first Post, Lilian Penna. I hear experience and wisdom, when I read her comment. I would be interested in anything she wrtitten.

The Maharishi was someone in my world that I knew for my lifetime. I regard his teachings as sacred. It does not matter what happened between him and Mia Farrow or Prudence Farrow. He influenced a massive number of people. If he has died, as has been vaguely reported, I wish him a swift ride to a place where he finds peace. Namaste, sir. I will miss you and will follow your practice of meditation. You never made yourself out to be other than a man with a vision. For that I thank you. Let us pray.
I have a doctor that is a guru of sorts, he has helped so many peaple!
i'm scared to put his name on here, but i truly love him as a pearson and a docto!

GOODMORNING, goodafternoon! happy valentines day, happybirthday, happyfourt of july , happy thanksgiving, merrychristmas, happy newyearagain !!! just warm thank you and bountiful gratitudes in years to come, more power to the spirits who never get tired of coming to the well to ease their thirsty souls! von boyaj!
Someone commented that it didn't matter what happened between Maharishi and Mia Farrow back in 1968. Well, to relieve your anguish--nothing happened. There was an interesting article in the NY Times after Maharishi's passing that discounted that story as myth started by Alex Marden (Magic Alex--a Beatles hanger-on of questionable character and intent). Both Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr have since stated that there was absolutely no truth that Maharishi had done anything improper. That accusation against the man is not true. So, it is safe to say that such scurrulous rumours can now be done away with. So many millions of people have benefitted and found joy and peac from Maharishi's teachings. That is what we must always remember.
This has been very nice. This is the first time I have read and participated in this venue. As you can see, I felt compelled to write. I studied TM when it first came available to learn. I since have stopped meditating but would like to re-visit TM which is the only name I have for meditation I'm sure that things have grown and changed and all for the good I hope.
I live in the South Shore of Mass. I wonder if there are any centers in my area.
Can anyone help? Many thanks, Dan
Gautam is indeed wise as his name. Perhaps he can clear the clouds of doubt that linger in his fathers mind.
"He who understands Maharishi will become Maharishi"!
for Dan Goodchild:
I was initiated into what I call 'Mantra Meditation'which when I compard notes with someone initiated into TM was about the same. I didn't practice for a number of years either but the 'school' I went to was 400 miles away. I had been reading Deepak's books and called about a seminar and was told they did meditation initiations. I went to both the seminar & got initiated into meditation again(yrs after the first time). I don't know if they still do this, but it was quite wonderful. I could not get in touch with anyone from TM which is why I tried Deepak. You might try calling. I don't know exactly how(it's been about 10 yrs) but they had an 800 number for seminars and information. I literally forgot howmuch it cost, probably because I choose to go to the week long seminar and the hotel & plane tkts all got lumped together. I hope this helps. If it's ok,they can give you my email. I'd love to hear from you.
BTW- The school where I first got initiated was only located in NYC when I attended it. I discovered after I went to Deepak that they opened a branch in my small town. Meant to be...
I did not recommend them to you because it took many years to be initiated into meditation. I could have gotten right in, because I did go thru all the requisite stuff before.
Once again, I do not meditate on a daily basis. After Deepak, my new doctor also was a meditation instructor. She left. Then my new shrink was a mindfulness meditation instructor. He left. On my own...I find it difficult to sit down and do it. My connection now is with the universe but not with any person. I've had to go deep within myself to find connection but do not have(yet)the discipline to sit.
I focus on trust...when I need something, it or he/she appears. Not that everything I need, I have, but I get a feeling to go somewhere and I find something I really wanted, is waiting for me. I believe my path right now, is to exercise trust & love.
I could tell you stories of the school & Deepak seminars that were more than coincidence. Thinking something to myself - & someone approaches me & makes it happen.
Blessings...
