Broad Consensus for Romney!

posted by jfletcher

Forty eight hours from a game-changing American election—in bizarre and seemingly apocalyptic times—Mitt Romney is gaining broad support. It is support the likes of which I have never seen.

The Blaze is reporting that playwright David Mamet has penned an open letter to fellow Jewish Americans and pointing out that the ballot is “secret”—no one knows who individuals vote for, if that matters to the individual.

It is astonishing that Mamet (though now a conservative of sorts) is throwing his apparent support to the man who wants to send Barack Obama into early retirement.

Among several subjects, Mamet brought up an ally:

“Will you tell your children that a liberal government will increasingly marginalize, dismiss and weaken the support for and the safety of the Jewish state?”

Now, you might think I am most surprised by Mamet’s endorsement, but I am not. The endorsement that truly stuns me comes from 94-year-old…Billy Graham.

Full-page ads run recently in major newspapers by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association call for support for candidates that “support the nation of Israel.”

Graham, who in the distant past was more aligned with conservative Christians, has in the recent past been seen with presidents like Bill Clinton, and he has been softer on social issues. There are also those troubling, secretly recorded anti-Semitic comments made to Richard Nixon.

Yet here is Graham, in the deep winter of his life, recalling the values of his earlier ministry. And he remembers Israel.

Whatever else he is, Barack Obama is no friend of Israel. His contempt for the Jewish state belies the feeble attempts his clumsy vice president made in the debate to convince voters this administration is the Johnny Paul to Israel’s Opie.

Mamet. Graham. Americans.

Israel is one issue on the minds of voters in an anxiety driven election that will impact America for a long time.

I predict that Mitt Romney will be the next president of the United States.

With Apologies to Israel
At a time when support for Israel is eroding among American evangelical leaders, it is also disconcerting to see apologetics ministries failing to present the uniqueness of the Jews and their role in history, to the audiences the apologists address. And when we speak of "apologetics" and "apolo
