I think we Christians need to be comfortable with and embrace being Marginal.

Yes sir, I do. I would humbly submit that when anyone claims and asserts dogma dogmatically
, it likely reveals an uncharitable heart that finds its purpose in the letter of the law but where the spirit of the law may prove ultimately absent. It may also uncover a life untested by trial and tribulation. Of course, this doesn’t mean one should be without conviction, but that *linear* truth is quite a slippery thing to grasp with unfailing assurance. By way of example, I believe Jesus is the Truth–I trust this at a deep level, but that doesn’t mean I understand Him any better. Frankly, at times, I really question what He allows. In fact, I’ve personally encountered people who don’t believe in Jesus per se, but live a life more in keeping with the Spirit of Jesus. What does the Good Book say? “Judge not, lest ye be judged.”

I don’t really know what you mean by this post. Embrace a marginal Christianity? A marginal lifestyle?

Hmm…after I thought further about your post I think I misunderstood your point. I believe you meant we should be more willing and prepared to embrace those that society has marginalized.

yes, We have to be comfortable whether God has us in the fore or the back ground. We seek his glory, which doesn’t always mean prominence in society.

I like where these thoughts are going. I’m interested in seeing where you take us. The word “marginal” is very captivating and thought provoking. It also seems to be a very Jesus shaped word. Could this perhaps be the next book you are working on?

I love “almost insufficient”. Gideon thought ten thousand was not enough, three hundred however almost insufficient. five loaves and two fish were almost insufficient.
Wikipedia states “A sufficient condition is one that, if satisfied, assures the statement’s truth.” God is truth, thus when we make God our life’s “sufficient condition” only then can we achieve truth.
Secondly, the Bible is one of the only books that advocates the individual make themselves extremely small or lower, kind of a anti-self help book. Thus if we are not currently on the fringes, we are ordered to, like Dr. King, move ourselves there. Marginality not as a goal but as a command.
