I just started a new book called Jesus on Death Row: The Trial of Jesus and American Capital Punishment. The author, Mark Osler, is a former prosecutor and current Professor of Law at Baylor University of School of Law. I'm intrigued by his approach because he is looking at the trial of Jesus through the eyes of the US court system. As one who is predisposed to a non-violent, consistent life ethic, I'm intrigued by the argument.

Yeah this does sound good, I’ll have to add it to my amazon wish list… (which is growing faster than I can read books). I definitely lean towards non-violence and a “consistent life ethic” as well. Although many apparently do, I really can’t understand how you can see anything other than that in the person of Jesus Christ.

Right now I am getting ready to go testify in Congress on a related issue– the sentence of life without parole for juveniles. I’m trying to figure out how to describe children as different than adults from the position of faith. The hearing is at 2:30 ET on Tuesday. I would welcome any thoughts you might have…

As a former student of Professor Osler, I am exceedingly proud of Professor Osler and excited to read his book. This is a fascinating topic and one which I have contemplated in my own spiritual walk and career decisions. Thank you, Professor Osler, for putting into words what many of us can only ponder in our hearts!
