We sing the blues so as not to waste any
pain. We follow in the footsteps
of our “kind of blue” Christ, offering our lives as statements to the renaissance that only He can bring.
Ralph Ellison once said, “As
blues-beset as life may be, the real secret is somehow to make life swing, to
survive by staying in the groove.”
Jazz is blues based and life is blues beset. That’s a cryptic way of saying, “There’s bound to come some trouble
in your life and it’s most likely going to hurt!” As Christians we don’t run from our pain because we have
embraced the cross. With it’s
sacrament of strange fruit we let it lead us through our pain and to the pained
people of the world.

The blues are the rue making up the gumbo of life. The blues are sung out of the totality of life, with all of its experiences. It seems Jesus understood the blues, as he cries out for Jerusalem in Luke 19. Jesus sings the blues for the city. The prince of peace comes to the city of peace (the menaing of the name Jerusalem) in our to make peace. Thank you for your inspiration.

I do not believe people necessarily run from pain. More or less face it head on and learn how to deal with it as we go. If we sit in sorrow for it, it only seems to become worse.
