"My soul," the psalmist announces, "is consumed in its longing for Your mishpatim/commandments" (119:20). Actually, the word "consumed" means "crushed" (garas). My soul, he says, is broken into pieces because it so longs to commune with God through hearing from God.
To be honest, most of us part ways from the psalmist. How often do I so long to hear from God, how often do I so long to commune with God, that I sense that my being is falling into pieces because of that desire?

Thanks, Scot.
Longing is foreign to many of us. We are able to easily satisfy or else numb most of our longings. In a healthy spiritual sense, I think longing requires a faith in God and willingness not to take matters into our own hands. Speaking personally, the longer I long for something, the more I become tempted to indict God for being cruel and letting me suffer. Even if the longing is for God himself.
probably never, but that reflects on me not upon gods word

This so needs to be said, and written, and preached! Thank you!
