Scott,
This seems to indicate that it is the 17th Sunday after Pentecost. I try to post the lecitonary for the week on our church web site (http://www.faithcov.org/) and I have it as the 14th Sunday after Pentecost. Am I three weeks off (not at all unlikely).

This IS the 14th Sunday after Pentecost, but its also the 22nd Sunday of Ordinary Time or Proper 17, depending upon how you count. So, you’re not off, just different.

That explains it … We just saw 14th Sunday of Pentecost at church but I got the BCP prayer for this week.

The liturgical year begins with Advent, which begins four Sundays before Christmas. Ordinary time, that period between Pentecost and Advent, does not have a fixed number of Sundays, because Easter is not fixed, but is dependent of the date of the full moon that occurs on or after the spring equinox on March 21.
Sooo, the number of Sundays in the liturgical season of Ordinary Time (The Season after Pentecost) varies from year to year, but must end at Advent. The tradition has reading for all the possible number of Sundays, but these Propers are defined for use on the Sunday closest to August 31, for Proper 17.
