congrats scot. i'm looking forward to reading it soon.
Looking forward to reading this, will the UK edition be called "Blue Budgie"?
Done. Though it won't be published right away, within 48 hours they say.
I look forward to buying copies of the book for others. And I'm rereading, "The Jesus Creed" (not sure if this is the third time, or perhaps even more that I've read it) to be ready to read the 40-day companion volume of it during Lent.
A great book. One I enthusiastically recommend. (actually true of both books)
Mine arrived yesterday--long ago pre-ordered. I left work early to get home and start through it. Stopped and bought a blank journal to take with me through the book. The is an important book on an important topic. I think John Ortberg's blurb is dead on! I will go through it with my reading group, will insist all the church leaders I know read it and probably give away a few dozen copies along the way. Thank you for this effort, Scot. So far I am impressed at the way you have managed to critique the habits and practices of many (all?) without being critical in the prejorative sense. Pure Jesus Creed!
Congrats on the book.
I went to Catalyst a few years ago and thought it was a terrific conference. Great ideas and insight from the terrific speakers, good worship times, and some goofy fun thrown in from time to time.
It is a valuable experience for not just church or ministry staff, lay leaders, Christians in leadership in any sector (business, academia, etc...), but also for Christians in any situation. Good leadership ideas; but more than that, good spiritual growth encouragement.
I certainly hope to go again next year, and do frequent the Catalyst website (http://www.catalystspace.com/) for its regular podcast interviews, articles, and blog.
My copy arrived two days ago. Tim's halfway through it already. He loves it.
Scot,
I want to thank you about letting us know where we can purchase a copy. I am going to do so right now. I can't wait to read it. I love all the book you have written. You definately have a gift. God bless you brother and hope you have a great weekend.
I invite Jesus Creeders to read my review at

Hi Scot,
I've just posted a review of The Blue Parakeet on my blog, but I couldn't carry it over to Amazon. It seems you need to have purchased something from there to be able to do that, and that doesn't seem to include me!
Having said that, it was a good read, and just what I needed for a course/study series I'm putting together for my church.

i think biblical interpretation is one of the most important discussions of our time. I grew up on the literalist approach and found it inadequate so am reading widely on this subject as a process of sorting out my faith. I just ordered the book. Thanks...
Cameron, you should be able to do a review of just about any book you want on Amazon. I am going to have to look into getting this book myself.
Great work here Scot!
I've posted a review and look forward to reading others. I look forward to reading about fasting in the near future. Thanks for the work!
Congrats! My pre-order was shipped yesterday! Can't wait!
I saw it last night at TEDS (of all places). Now I really have to get cracking on my review!
Congratulations!
Well, since it's out before November, I'm with D C Cramer in that I have to get cracking on the rest of my series!
What do they say about the early bird? Hmmm.... 8)
Oh, and since there's all this shameless self-promotion going on (just kidding), I'm doing a multi-part series on Blue Parakeet at my blog: http://cramercomments.blogspot.com/search/label/Scot%20McKnight
congrats, scot, i'll be watching for mine in my mailbox... pre-ordered several months ago :-)
I too have been privileged to receive an advanced copy of the book. I am progressively reviewing it on my blog as well. I read a portion, sit on it for about a week, and then interact with it, delineating my thoughts from my summaries. When I finish my book (and wiki reviews?)
The only negative of the book so far: I agree with everything. This kind of frightens me, as I am not used to hearing a view so reminiscent of my own. I have been personally challenged by the book, but haven't found a pure point of contention (of course the book is written to be somewhat universal)
I will make a one-page-ish summary of the work and post it on amazon. So far, I am very impressed. I love how McKnight constantly (in the Jesus Creed, too) emphasizes personal transformation. Unfortunately the evangelical church today has too often emphasized orthodoxy at the cost of orthopraxy. And ultimately we deny the relationship with God we so often promote.
If you are interested in my review (and face it, I would just like more visitors to my blog), go to : http://nojrotsap.blogspot.com
Well, I messed that one up. I thought the book was coming out in November for some reason, so I didn't rush to get my review up. I received the book a bit late and haven't gotten to finish it yet. I had hoped to have my review up already...sorry about that!
I got my copy a couple weeks ago. Saw your note today, so figured I'd better post my review. It's up on my blog now.
Sorry for posting again, my review was just posted also. Self-promotion below:

Congrats, Scot! Two big days in a row, though yesterday was obviously much more ultimately significant. (Did the Wrigley Field sign announce your book's "birth" today?)
For those who want to follow my overview of The Blue Parakeet, you can come to my blog and check out the "Monday Musings" posts. I think I will have two more, and then I'll post a summary on Amazon for you. My blog is at mikesstudies.blogspot.com.
Great work!
I have enjoyed reading several reviews (including John Frye's) and now look forward to reading the book. (Congratulations to both you and Kris on your new grandchild!)
Done. Excellent book, Scot. Already recommended it to a bunch of friends out here in Philly. Of course, they're all a little preoccupied with the Phillies right now :)
Congrats again, Scot. I have my copy (from a pre-order) and am looking forward to reading it. I will post my own thoughts about it within the next few days.
I'm definitely looking forward to reading it (am still working my way through Kathleen Norris' Acedia and Me) in the next few days. I'm looking forward to reading how you're hashing out the questions of biblical interpretation. I've been asking those questions of myself recently and not finding satisfactory answers. I am excited to hear what you have to say.
The Blue Parakeet is helpful in numerous ways. Jesus Creed folk can read my chapter by chapter review of Scot's new book at

Cool! I'll definitely put that on my "things-to-read" list.
I was wondering if I might could get an autographed copy? Let me know how and where I could get one.
preacherman,
It appears there are only two options: show up at an event where I am speaking or send a copy to me and I'll send it back.
wondering if there are plans to release it on the Kindle?
Scot,
I attended your lab at Catalyst and thought it was excellent. Simple yet profound. You did a wonderful job of teaching hermeneutics using metaphors that really resonated with the audience (the blue parakeet, Apple computers, "wiki" story, etc.).
Your lab was much different than any other I attended, much more like a seminary class than a sermonette or a pep-talk, which I really appreciated.
I have just recently joined this "little" blog community here at Jesus Creed and I'm excited to follow along. I'm also looking forward to reading the Blue Parakeet!
Paul
Scot...
I'm looking forward to reading the book. I attended your lab at Catalyst, and thought it was a terrific teaser for the book. For the most part, I tend to agree with the main idea of the book, as you presented it.
I've attended Catalyst four of the past five years. The event is always extremely well-organized, and I've never been disappointed with the return on my investment. The main sessions are sometimes over-hyped, but the variety of presenters is amazing, and rarely has a presenter, whether a minister, social service organizer, or business person, underdelivered. Case in point, last week's conference offered presentations by Seth Godin and Jim Collins - and both offered great and provocative content. Also, I'll plug a younger pastor named Matt Chandler - his message on Wednesday night was incredible.
I would challenge any readers who have not yet experienced Catalyst to plan on attending next year - and be sure to fork out the extra $99 for labs the Wednesday before the conference.
Read and reviewed the book here -

Posted it to Amazon as well. Thanks Scot.
Thank you Scot.
I will do either of those two things.
I appreciate it bro.
I hope you have a great week!
Scot,
I also got a chance to attend your session at Catalyst and I must say that I enjoyed the presentation. It definitely left me with more questions than answers. Like, how did Paul live out his faith while he was alone(not with the Jews or Gentiles as he mentions in 1 Cor 9)? I presume you flush this out more in the book which may cause me to have to purchase it. I also appreciated the appeal to church canon and tradition with the water slide analogy. I wonder how that settles with some evangelicals who don't seem to give much credence to such things. Thanks tackling an important topic and for coming down to Catalyst this year.
Scot, I attended your Catalyst lab session last week. And while I enjoyed, and was inspired by, most of the speakers, no one challenged my approach to the Scriptures and, thus, leadership, more than you. Thanks.
