My Donut Promise

It appears I will have to open up the offer to my class: whenever the Bears win next, and it may not happen,  I will buy donuts for the class.

Our Common Prayerbook 30 - 3
Psalm 30 thanks God (vv. 1-3, 11-12) and exhorts others to thank God (vv. 4-5). Both emerge from the concrete reality of David's own experience. Here is what that experience looks like:Step one: David was set on high and was flourishing at the hand of God's bounty (v. 7a).Step two: David became too

Theology After Darwin 1 (RJS)
One of the more important and more difficult pieces of the puzzle as we feel our way forward at the interface of science and faith is the theological implications of discoveries in modern science. A comment on my post Evolution in the Key of D: Deity or Deism noted: ...this reminds me of why I get a

Almost Christian 4
Who does well when it comes to passing on the faith to the youth? Studies show two groups do really well: conservative Protestants and Mormons; two groups that don't do well are mainline Protestants and Roman Catholics. Kenda Dean's new book is called Almost Christian: What the Faith of Ou

Let's Get Neanderthal!
The Cave Man Diet, or Paleo Diet, is getting attention. (Nothing is said about Culver's at all.) The big omission, I have to admit, is that those folks were hunters -- using spears or smacking some rabbit upside the conk or grabbing a fish or two with their hands ... but that's what makes this diet

The Bears would have trouble winning the Rose Bowl. I’m glad they’ve already played the Lions.

Wow… I didn’t even know reading Jesus Creed constituted being in a class – now I find out we get donuts too! How do they come, as an email attachment?

Rick L,
Jesus Creed is definitely a class, an education – and the best kind – no tests, no papers (unless one counts long comments).
But – donuts as e-mail attachment would be good.

It takes a good deal of fortitude to be a Chicago sports fan. The teams raise you up and then knock you down. And then they knock you down again.
RJS – having lived in Michigan for many years I know the pain of following the Lions. I still cring at the memory of the Wayne Font years.

The real pain is the Wolverines – worst season in 129 years …
The Bears we expect and I’m a transplanted Minnesotan anyway (of course they tanked today as well).

RJS – sorry, but I am an Iowa fan, and to be honest, this season for the Wolverines – I confess I have kind of enjoyed it.

I’m a Bengals fan relishing that we didn’t actually lose yesterday — so would a Bears TIE count for your class? :)

RJS,
Things could be worse for you too. You could be a Notre Dame fan.
Can’t we all just be excited that my Gators (with beloved brother Tim Tebow) control their own destiny for the national championship? There’s always an orange & blue lining to any cloud . . .
