I believe that a number of us mentioned My Father’s Pizza in Black Mountain, NC, when you mentioned being in that area some time back.
For “mainstream,” I’m a huge fan of Papa John’s. But I expect that no mainstream chain will match the independently owned places others will mention….

Black Mountain can’t have that great of pizza if they’ve got that good of coffee. Isn’t there a limit on goods?

yes, Lou knows pizza

I have to weigh in: Is there anything possibly better than Bill’s Pizza and Pub? That double-crust pizza is to pizza what Macs are to computers.

I vote for Giordano’s Stuffed Pizza in Chicago (and I don’t even live in Chicago). Nothing outside of New York can even compare to it, and the New York/Chicago debate isn’t going to be won here, but I prefer Giordano’s
. I think it’s much better than Lou Malnati’s, Gino’s, Uno, etc.

Jonathan, I wasn’t aware there even was a debate.

I love Chicago pizza. As a “Son of the South” I spent several weeks in Chi town as a business person and fell in love with their pizza. I also have been a Cub fan since birth – or at least since I could read a box score. Gotta love Wrigley!.
Giordano’s, Uno, Pizzano’s – it’s all GREAT! New York Pizza is good, but not close to Chicago!

Except for my wife’s homemade pies, it’s gotta be Giordanos.
When my dad and I went to the occasional White Sox game (chill out, Cubs’ fans, I was a kid), he liked to take me to Home Run Inn. It would get my vote for thin crust pizza.

I’ll tell you who makes the best affordable frozen pizza. Reggio’s, here in Chicago. Mm-mmm, buttery-crust good.
As for Chicago pizza, I LOVE our deep dish (and no one beats Giordano’s, but Lou’s is close), but one slice is a meal for an entire day. Home Run Inn, then, would have to be my choice by virtue of NOT killing me.

It’s gotta be “Mrs. B’s” in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Canada. They have a large Italian community and boast the most italian restaurants and pizzeria’s per capita. I live in Niagara now and the pizza sucks!

Giordano’s in the Chicagoland area! For a unique pizza…try a pizza pot pie from Chicago Pizza & Oven Grinder in the Lincoln Park area! Gotta get the Mediterranean bread and salad there or it’s not a complete experience! Also, the hosts somehow remember the order in which people arrive, the # in their party, etc. without taking names! They’ve been accurate the few times I’ve been there!

I agree with Kristen, Jonathan (15), David, Kim, and Jason …
I believe that my first exposure to Giordano’s was when I was snowed in at Following Christ 98. The leftovers saved me and my roommates from buying hotel food, well I guess that I did buy the conference discount breakfast buffet.

I visited Chicago and ate at Giordannos and loved it, so I searched for a Chicago style pizza in Tulsa. Savastano’s was the only one.
I tried it and now like it just a bit more.
