"Twinterview" on Fasting

The good folks at Englewood Review of Books and I tried something: an interview on Twitter.

The "twinterview" was about our Fasting: The Ancient Practices book, and Josh has an amazingly clever post of the tweets.

John Frye has just begun a multi-post review about the book, too.

Thanks folks.

pds,
Nope ... didn't see much about that, but my focus was on fasting.

World Vision hosts the 30-Hour Famine each year, in which teens fast for 30 hours to raise awareness of world hunger. Do you believe the medical advice you got would make this program a huge mistake?

Yes, Sue, I do. I doubt you will find many medical doctors recommending young adults to dip into fasting for that long.

I don't think that the program is a "huge mistake" - in fact I think that it has been a good program overall.

Having said that I must admit that we did not let our daughter, who was always a light eater and on the low weight end for her height, fast for 30 hours - we wouldn't let her go unless she had dinner first (making the "fast" somewhat less than 24 hours).

Is there a medical consensus on this? There does not seem to be a consensus on limiting everyone to 12 hour fasts. It seems like this needs to be on a case by case basis.
