We have been acting like missionaries under the guise of “church-planting her in South Florida for 17 years. Doing this doesn’t invite accolades, support or even the understanding of those you think should “know better.”
But the Lord has taken care of us, and we have seen many find Jesus, or at least have significanrt encounters with Him (wee don’t always know what happens after that.)
A couple things I HAVE learned…
1) Having “babies” doesn’t make money…in fact is costs money, time, commitment and heartache! (This doesn’t make sense to those who still promote the “science” of church growth, the 10 things to achieve _________ , etc…)
2)

oops…posted too early
2) Generally, you will not be supported by those who usually support “missionaries” (translation – “foreign”)
If you are a missionary here in the US, you will be virtually on your own…(a missionary even told me recently that “missions won’t work here in the US!)
But God is the God of Mission…so there is hope!
3) Finally, when I started here, I prayed to have the faith of the Apostle Paul…then I read his story and said…”Wait a minute!”
Peace,
Jim Black

Why is the assumption that this Philip is one of the seven and not one of the twelve?
posted September 22, 2009 at 4:03 pm
Most infer the “Philip” of Acts 8 is the Philip of Acts 6:5. I’ve never even thought of his being the Philip of Acts 1:13.

I’ve always assumed that it was Philip of the 12 from 1:13 – not that it really makes any difference which Philip it is. Perhaps 8:1 (they are scattered except the apostles) leads to the assumption of the other Philip.

Hey Jim, I am also in So. FL working as a missionary under the guise of church planter and I have had the exact same experience as you. There is a huge need for missionaries to the secular world in the United States, especially young adults. I am currently doing outreach at FIU (as a PhD student).
I hope we can connect sometime. Nice to meet you!
